  1. And Fields cap hit is about $4.5m a year for another 3 years, Darnold is $18m next year plus whatever value you can put on the 2nd and 4th round picks we traded away for him
  2. And taking the long snapper instead of Trey Smith. It was our 9th pick you're allowed to gamble with a high risk high reward player there. Get the snapper in FA
  3. Yup we'll find a QB around the same time a bunch of our defensive playmakers rookie contracts expire
  4. Who's gonna take on his $15 million next year even if he did want out in the offseason? . We really screwed ourselves when we had a clean slate. Now we got $50 million tied up in Darnold/CMC/Robby next year
  5. Nope, since 2018 it's fully guaranteed the minute you pick it up. What a horrible sequence of events. Trade Teddy on Wednesday, pass on Fields on Thursday, and pick up Sams 5th year option on Friday with PJ and Grier as his "competition". Yikes
  6. Crazy how one bad trade and failing to make one easy draft decision can completely wreck a rebuild for years. Everything was in place and they just made it harder on themselves for no reason.
  7. Even if they didn't think Fields was going to be on the board at 8 so they traded for Darnold, you still gotta take Fields there. It could be 3-5 years before you get another opportunity to have a promising QB fall into your draft lap like that. And we have like 10 cornerbacks now
  8. When Goodell was announcing our pick he was like "The Panthers select J-" and I was like USTIN FIELDS! But nope he said Aycee Horn. No offense to Horn or Darnold, it's neither of their faults we're in this situation
  9. How mad do you think Tepper is right now?
  10. Imagine keeping Teddy, drafting Fields, and having all our draft picks next year. Instead we're 2 years behind anything promising happening
  11. How many kids are walking around in Darnold jerseys haha. Gilmore is cool but every other trade was a fuging waste
  12. And the fans excited, jersey sales, no picks traded away, cheap deal, etc.....
  13. It's so much more exciting watching Fields play tonight than any Darnold game. Even if Fields isn't doing great yet you can sense the teams excitement of having a future franchise QB
  14. I'm guessing no IR...Don't know if Rhule has the guts to bench him based solely on bad play after that horrific trade and 5th year option
  15. Which is maybe why Rhule should have sucked it up and kept Teddy and drafted Fields. I guess we'll get a good look at Fields tonight on MNF
  16. Yeah he looked like he could barely get his arm over his head/shoulder area. Could explain all the batted down passes at the line as well. Either way he shouldn't have started and if they sit him down now for an injury a bunch of people rightfully are going to assume it's a cover for his poor play.
  17. Yup if we're picking around 15, for someone to move up from the mid 20's they might give us a 4th. Maybe a 3rd if we swap some later round pick positions. The window to get picks for players closed last week, could have maybe gotten a 3rd or 4th for one of our cornerbacks or DE's to a playoff team. Lots of guys are free agents after this year
  18. The way things are looking, we might have around the 10th pick in the first round to take a QB or best O-line player available. After that unless Fitt gets creative with some trades we have picks in rounds 5/6/7 for some projects. Darnold and Henderson trades took away our 2/3/4th rounders.
  19. Before yesterday's game would have been believable. Either he's not injured and Rhule's trying to find a way to bench Sam without admitting the trade was a horrible idea, or Sam shouldn't have played in the first place because he actually was injured. Either way Rhule can't save face on this any longer
  20. So Rhule gambled on Darnold. For Rhule to save his own job he probably has to bench Darnold, let the other guys suck, blame it on and fire Brady, and gamble on Darnold again next year. They gave up too much to cut Sam and no one would trade for that guaranteed money either when you can get a Trubisky/Winston/etc for under $5 million on a prove it deal.
  21. Rhule had the perfect scapegoat to play PJ and Morgan without having to bench Darnold this week. Just say his shoulder wasn't ready and no one would be bummed if the other guys didn't work out. Now he has to directly bench Darnold for poor play, showing his ineptitude as a coach and evaluator
  22. They screwed themselves, they had Teddy under contract. Denver got Teddy for a 6th round pick and $3 million dollars. Saints got Winston for like $5 million? Trubisky for a vet minimum? All these guys are better and rebuild friendly. I think this staff has a gambling problem
  23. PFN rankings kinda nail it. 22) Carolina Panthers We’re done trying to talk ourselves into Sam Darnold, right? I can’t help but think how fun Justin Fields would be in a Panthers uniform. This team is in a tough spot now. They have a young defensive nucleus and some great offensive weapons. But they’re paying their running back a ton of money, and they’re on the hook for almost $19 million for Darnold next season. Carolina doesn’t absolutely need to select a QB in the 2022 NFL Draft, but they must rebuild their offensive line at a minimum. Then, Carolina’s front office must pray it can either get good enough play to give Darnold another season or bad enough play to get a top pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. The Panthers’ brain trust — head coach Matt Rhule, offensive coordinator Joe Brady, and general manager Scott Fitterer — are in a tough spot. Owner David Tepper doesn’t strike me as an incredibly patient owner. He wants to spend money and make splashes. That’s tough to do without a franchise QB.
