Half the stadium mad haha. I think if we hadn't drafted a QB at all/traded for Mayfield it would just be a sad look in the stadium. With Corral you might actually get some hyped fans and sell some jerseys. At the least he won't be boring on field
-
If Corral balls out in the preseason games I can't imagine the fans in the stadium being very patient with a Darnold/PJ starting crew. Tepper is also obviously very sensitive to social media at this point for better or worse

Matt Waldman Film Room: Matt Corral
Jackie Lee replied to Ricky Spanish's topic in Carolina Panthers
Oh yeah, give him a 2nd read, NFL receivers, and MC checkdown, and I'm not worried about the processing at all. He's also super comfortable in the pocket. The pump fakes are maybe my favorite thing currently, theres some nasty ones on film, almost like NBA crossover kinda stuff. Only real knock I can see is his mechanics get lazy when he starts scrambling and that's where his accuracy gets kinda funky -

It's really hard to determine how well he can read the field if he wasn't asked to in Kiffins scheme, sometimes it just clicks with guys and sometimes you get a Darnold who just can't process fast enough. It'll be interesting because they are both getting the same install pretty much at the same time. -
We borrowed a good chunk of that from next years cap, we're listed as being in the negative next year so should probably just let most of it roll over. If he's like $4-5M I'd be cool w it

Corral college tape vs. Darnold college tape
Jackie Lee replied to Wundrbread33's topic in Carolina Panthers
Here's some Corral tape -
I'm the same. I used to do interviews as a musician and couldn't wait for them to be over with and actually get back to working on things. I'm like a 180 from getting interviewed to how I interact with friends and musicians etc. I hope he never blows a presser as bad as Tannehill did today, that was rough

Corral college tape vs. Darnold college tape

In college or pros? Probably just a matter of people getting tape on him either way. Not a hard guy to figure out -
I wouldn't hire that guy to work at Walmart. He would be deafening on the intercom

It was a shitty off the cuff zoom presser in the middle of the draft, but yeah. I like Person better now at the Athletic but when he said "get bigger/stronger" Matt was like fug this dude haha. The Balboni fluff interview was better than this garbage. It'll be interesting to see if they give him a legit presser next weekend before rookie camp.

Corral college tape vs. Darnold college tape
Jackie Lee replied to Wundrbread33's topic in Carolina Panthers
Great write up on his pros and cons here, he went from one OC to Kiffen, got way better but struggled against some looks he wasn't used to in 2020, and eventually had a better record in 2021 despite losing Elijah Moore. Sounds like he actually reads/reacts too fast, opposite of Darnold. That's easier to fix than trying to speed someone up who just doesn't have it upstairs. https://www.nbcsportsedge.com/article/nfl-draft-analysis/2022-nfl-draft-rankings-qb2-matt-corral -
He's gotta do something up top to compensate for that lower 90%.
-
Maybe he doesn't love media interviews but he's a total 180 from Sam Darnold in the locker room and the huddle from what I've heard. They held weekly team therapy sessions at Ole Miss where he encouraged players to speak their minds and be vulnerable about any personal issues so the team could really build a connection.

Sam is also a 4th round pick

The one thing that is nagging at me about our QB pick...

He'll look better once he gets NFL caliber WR's back. He threw to nobodies last year -

That's about the same 65 yards Willis had to throw his whole body into at his pro day -
And Grier wasn't ever taken seriously. Just a Hurney family favor

Last I heard Rhule was trying to reteach TMJ his gait, which sounds like a disaster waiting to happen.

I think in that scenario we could leave McAdoo at OC and let Wilks be the motivational speaker HC if that's the goal.

I also love this instant Ridder slander. Dude has a duck for an arm, seems like a good guy though -

I think he's the best in the pocket/under pressure in this class, who's better? It's not Pickett or Malik -
I think he's learned to sit back and let other people save his job. The hubris to think he could fix Sam and CJ, add some random Baylor guys that are trash just because he recruited them, I don't see what he adds to an organization. He needs to learn how to at least manage time outs before he gets any more responsibilities, including picking starters

Matt Waldman Film Room: Matt Corral
Jackie Lee replied to Ricky Spanish's topic in Carolina Panthers
That was actually a really good breakdown of how he plays in the pocket. I liked the end piece where they point out Pickett crumbles under pressure and Corral goes all in, for better or worse. Rhule likes a Jimmy G so I'm pretty sure he got over-Rhuled on this pick. -

So around the 20 min mark, he can go through reads without bailing. I think he'll be committed to getting very good in the pocket, just increase the reads gradually and slow him down a little. The opposite of Darnold who panics yet can't read the field until it's too late
