Coaching Staff: Final Pieces (as of 2-23-23)
Jackie Lee replied to Mr. Scot's topic in Carolina Panthers
After reviewing all these coaches, I'm really glad Duce is the assistant HC and I hope he takes over whenever Reich is done -
Panthers hire Shawn Jefferson as WR coach

Even Shi Smith could get his head right with this kind of coaching staff. He got drafted into a horrible situation and looked great in camp and preseason until Rhule and company actually had to play against NFL teams. The nice thing is we're at a point where if guys don't make the 53 this year, it's because they don't meet actual NFL standards. No stupid camp competitions that go through week 3 of preseason -

Van had a good game on this mic'd up and obviously loves and respects his dad. So many good position coaches so far, Reich is obviously not interested in micromanaging Rhule style, such a relief -

If he got this out of Cam Akers at the end of last year he can probably coach up anyone- 21 replies

We have our coaches. What schemes will we run?
Jackie Lee replied to Cam's New Arm's topic in Carolina Panthers
First-time defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero features a personality more consistent than a metronome, but his schemes are creative and aggressive. Last week against the Colts, he employed three outside linebackers, some call it the NASCAR package, with rookie Nik Bonitto and Bradley Chubb outside and Baron Browning roaming from the middle. The Broncos sacked Matt Ryan six times and Caden Sterns delivered two interceptions. The idea of this defense featuring fangs began crystallizing in the spring, Chubb told Denver7 in a one-on-one interview this week. -

33% blitz rate last year, Fangio probably averaged 25%. Sure enough, Evero took Fangio’s defensive scheme and revamped it into a more aggressive model. Where Fangio would send three or four in pass-rushing situations, Evero sent four, sometimes five or six rushers if it meant giving Denver’s defense a chance to get off the field. In 2021, Denver’s defense forced a total of 19 turnovers — in 2022 they forced 23. After intercepting 13 passes in 2021, the Broncos snagged 15 this season. -

Interesting that she compares his philosophy closer to what the 49ers are doing currently vs the Rams. Makes total sense for us having a good run game but needing to get more aggressive/creative in the pass game.- 21 replies

Capers and Caldwell are getting close to happy to sit back and just give advice, younger guys are learning. It's definitely a lot of guys with opinions but it seems like a mature enough bunch to focus on collectively getting better than pointing fingers. We're still working through Rhule ptsd

We just got an OLB coach so yeah 3-4 is gonna be a thing. And yeah Chinn was obviously wasted talent the last 2 years -
Rhule wouldn't be qualified as an assistant position coach on this staff lol. Doesn't mean all the chemistry and everything will work in the long run, but I don't see any grifters except maybe that green beret guy who is probably just a last filter for roster decisions

Pretty sure they're smart enough to play to their strengths. Running game with Duce should be solid. Reich will adapt the passing game to whatever QB we get, he adjusted from Luck to Brissett to Rivers to Wentz, all slightly different styles. Wentz folded under pressure eventually, and at the end Matt Ryan is probably just cooked -
Dump Winston for Mayfield? Must be a Dennis Allen thing, very strange how they handled Winston last year
-
Would you trade 9 for Fields - straight up?
Jackie Lee replied to musicman's topic in Carolina Panthers
This is probably true. I wasn't sold on him until the GA game. -
Jets are a better roster than Saints but they have to deal with the Bills and Dolphins/Patriots every year. But yes I do agree he should sign there so we can stop talking about him

Interesting twist regarding Lamar Jackson...
Jackie Lee replied to Proudiddy's topic in Carolina Panthers
$133M guaranteed, the actual offer was $250M up to $290M with incentives, he just wanted the whole $250M guaranteed. So that's $42-49M a year. -

I just don't see it. If Baltimore isn't willing to guarantee him $200M+ with no draft pics involved, why would another team trade away 2 1st round picks to pay him that much? Maybe before the Watson and Wilson deals, those are looking like a couple of horrible decisions. Is his mom still technically his agent? -
Hmm another guy speaking out for grass over turf.

A year with Capers in Jax as well, that could be the Evero selling point

Probably 6 games at least right?

Panthers continue to add to the defensive staff
Jackie Lee replied to ncfan's topic in Carolina Panthers
Plucking nearly the whole staff from the #2 defense in points allowed last year is pretty impressive. I feel like almost anyone would be an upgrade at D-line coach after what we've been watching the last couple years. -
Yeah I'd rather throw a 2nd at Hooker than Levis or AR in the 1st. Worst case scenario you have a solid backup for 4 years
-
I'm fine with anything besides wasting a top 10 pick on Levis

This year I wouldn't be surprised if it's only Young and Stroud in the 1st. Corral got put in a shitty situation so even him being 1st on a lot peoples boards last year could still be true for that class if he ever gets a chance
-
Yeah people need to watch that Clemson game again. Carr will never carry a team like that, or how Fields kept the Bears watchable last year. Stroud has a different style but showed enough in that Georgia game that I would easily trade up from him or straight up trade #9 for Fields even though we should have just drafted him for free when we had the chance. Carr is not as talented/tough as either guy and 2021 was probably his peak which resulted in not much
