  1. As others have said, take the layup at #6 and draft a LT. It's the easy and smart choice. If somehow all 3 LT went before us sure, take Center Tyler Linderbaum. But that's not going to happen.
  2. After the fact we know Kalil made 5 Pro Bowls so yeah, he would have been worth it. But we don't know the future during the draft. Coaches just make their best player evaluations. And they aren't always accurate. Just think if the player selected isn't a Pro Bowler but ends up being an average center. The coach would never hear the end of it in the media and from the fans. It would likely be the end of his career for wasting a high pick like that. So it's a very bold move that you better be a secure coach if you want to make it. Like Bill Belichick or somebody of his stature. Because if you're wrong, you're gone.
  3. In general, starting C can be found in the 2nd or 3rd. Sometimes as late as the 4th. This year, who knows. But that's generally their value. Case in point - this guy pretty good center named Ryan Kalil. You may have heard of him. NFL Draft:2007 / Round: 2 / Pick: 59
  4. Forget that. Stay at #6 and fill an obvious gaping hole on the roster. Don't lose one of these blue-chip talents for the sake of adding some mid round picks. Take a guy who's an instant starter and the best "sure thing" we can find.
  5. I wouldn't hate having Linderbaum on the roster. But you can usually get a good starting C in round 2 or 3. Good to great LT are far more rare and hard to find. That's why it should be the Panthers' choice at #6.
  6. I want to see Deonte start and play like an unstoppable bulldozer the entire game. Team rushes for 225 all behind the right side. Just to show how stupid Rhule has been not playing him all season.
  7. I was going to start him but my wife called and told me not to. Said his astrology sign was all wrong.
  8. we were going to start him but during the first offensive series, Deonte was in line at a hot dog vendor waiting on a chili dog
  9. Well Rhule likes OL who are versatile. Maybe Deonte Brown can prove his worth by being a kick returner.
  10. A turnaround would require Rhule to completely change how he coaches: how he hires his staff, handles the offense, make adjustments, works the X's and O's, evaluates free agents, develops his young players, relates to grown adult players, etc. Basically transform virtually everything about how he does his job. Which is a pretty challenging thing to accomplish in just a few months (and with no coaching mentors to provide counsel). Rhule is just really bad at his job. I can't think of any aspect of NFL coaching that he does well.
  11. I think there's a lot of good youth on this team. Most of those guys haven't been developed very well this season but the potential is there. Also given the number of rookie contracts, after Sam Darnold's contract comes off the books the 2023 salary cap should be getting better.
  12. yes, this is correct *********************************** NFL Draft tiebreaking procedures Strength of schedule (SOS) is used to break any ties between teams who have identical records at the end of the season. The team with the lower strength of schedule gets the higher selection in the tie break. SOS is the aggregate winning percentage of a team’s opponents.
  13. Quality over quantity. I want the very best LT the team can get its hands on. Those guys are rare and hard to find. Let's benefit from our horrible season by finally getting an instant starter at LT. The 4th round pick is from Houston so it's at the top of the round. A team can potentially get a starting interior lineman (G or C) at that spot. With Christensen at LG and Moton at RT that would be some very good pieces toward building the OL.
  14. I can't think of a more clear example that Rhule is completely over his head in the NFL. How do you explain such a touchdown drought over the last 5 games ? There's a total lack of in-game and between-game adjustments for the Panthers' offense.
  15. Jim Harbaugh has always struck me as a huge prima donna. I wouldn't be all that keen having him strut around the Carolina sidelines for a few seasons before his schtick wore out. I think he's a college-only guy since there he can bully players and get away with it. And the teenagers are "awed" by him as a major deity at football-crazy U Michigan.
  16. This story is breaking on all the major sports networks. I have to think it's a coordinated effort. Panthers owner reportedly 'embarrassed' he gave 7-year contract to Matt Rhule sports.yahoo.com
  17. I don't think you are seeing the whole picture as far as Saban. The following season, in 2006, Miami was 6-10. And according to reports, the culture there got so bad at least 2 players tried to physically fight him: "Daunte Culpepper tried to fight him one day and a security guy stepped in,” Glazer said on the Jan. 19 episode of The Herd with Colin Cowherd. “And then I think his final straw is that he questioned Zach Thomas’ toughness and Zach almost kicked his butt. That just doesn’t work on this level.” That's not a coach who will be in the NFL for very long. link
  18. My comments were directed toward developmental QB, specifically rookies like Carolina would be drafting. Not seasoned vets with plenty of good tape like Bledsoe. Rookies who haven't played or have played with up and dow results - they tend to get cut much sooner rather than later by new coaching staffs.
  19. He could be a Pete Carroll type: a former NFL coach turned college coach that finally becomes a successful NFL coach. Harbaugh does bring many years of NFL experience as a player to the table. That's definitely worth something.
  20. Brown is a man-mountain. There aren't too many people on the planet with his natural size and strength. I'd rather the coaching staff put Brown in there for a few games and have him fail than never seeing him in live action. You never really know how he's going to play until he actually does. That's especially true given how poor the Guard play has been for the Panthers this season. You know Miller isn't going to get much better. He is what he is. But as a rookie Brown may at least be able to improve. So let's see him out there.
  21. Seriously, if Nick Saban can't succeed in the NFL (maybe the best college coach of his generation) how can you expect other college guys to win here ? Tepper must not have done ANY homework on this topic before the Rhule hire.
  22. It is surprising that Tepper didn't put more research into this hire. If he did he'd see lots of examples of failed college coaches in the NFL with only 1 or 2 success stories. Failure is the norm over the last 30 years for college coaches making the jump.
