How much of the Jets performance was really on Darnold?
glenwo2 replied to SBBlue's topic in Carolina Panthers
Like the Jets were anything to write home about..... And yeah I'm well aware that the Panthers under the OLD Ownership/Management gave the Jets Franchise a run for its money....but I think with new ownership/Management here, I believe I've left the Jets and came here at the RIGHT TIME. -

Did you click on the Yahoo article? Or did the OP forget to include that and had to edit the correct one in? -

A point of absolute frustration for my part back then as I truly believed if they could've gotten past John Elway and the Broncos, they would've flattened the Falcons in the SB that year. Then Vinny tore his achilles and that was all she wrote. -

I'm not a USC fan. In fact, I'm 43 years old and can count on one hand throughout my entire life the number of times I've watched a College Football Game. And I can direct you to the Jets website (a website called The Hampur; New York Jets Hampur, that is) where I have over 18,000+ posts under the name vin (with a Vinny avatar). So don't assume what I am or am not based on post-count on this board when I just started. I told you and everyone else that I came here because I believed the Jets did Sam dirty and decided to finally leave that franchise for good because of it. It's not so much I'm a Darnold fan as it is that I want Sam to succeed here and then stomp a mudhole in the Jets by doing so in Week 1 and by being successful here in Carolina also the rest of the way. It's basically SPITE that drives me. FK THE JETS! -

I started watching NFL Football in 1997 but I don't think that matters much to you as you just like to insult me when I'm trying to have a civil conversation with you. So how about you try responding like an adult instead of an a-hole, huh? Jesus christ.... -
How much of the Jets performance was really on Darnold?

To add further to my above post : I forgot to add his final season in Houston where he was sacked 41 times, too. And the only season where he wasn't sacked often was his sophomore year (15) where he only played 12 games(started 11 of them). Add them all together and David Carr was sacked a horrific total of 249 times!! Meanwhile, Sam was sacked a total of 98 times. Carr may have been a better athlete but to get sacked that many times....damn. It's no wonder his mental state as a QB was damaged beyond repair. -
I actually agree with you. lol. But going back to what I said, very well, dude. Actions speak louder than cheap words but I hope in time I can prove myself here at the huddle and gain some modicum of respect as a Panthers fan than just being viewed as "Oh. It's that 'Sam Darnold fan' guy. ".

That's fair. We don't want him to be Teddy. We want him to be better than that and I feel, imo, that he will. But he needs, like all QBs, for the O-Line to play well so he can show us one way or the other if he's got a future here or not. No QB can throw the ball while on his back, after all.

You are aware that he had seasons where he had 76, 49, and 68 sacks, right? That had to badly damage his psyche to the point where while he still had the talent, his mental state as a QB was shot. -
He'd probably make a decent QB Coach these days.
-
Okay so let's say that Sam doesn't work out and he's gone... ...if I stick around, will you take me a bit more seriously than you are currently?
-
Correction: I wasn't a Panthers fan THEN. Different story now. And what's wrong with throwing out Panthers history? I know who Jake Delhomme is. I know who Cam Newton was(when he was here; not the shell he became elsehwere). Bashing me just 'cause I'm a newcomer to this team board is just plain petty, imo. Especialy when all I was doing was slamming CP's take which you even said you disagreed with.

Ouch.

The key is going to be how the O-Line performs for him. If they can be just Average (which is way better than the Jets), he'll have a chance to make some throws within the system.

He also didn't throw Gase under the bus when he had every right to. Don't think that Fitt, Rhule, and Brady did not notice that prior to them going after him. Fortunately, Sam wasn't sacked as much as Carr so there's still hope. Sam's ability to make plays on the run (and run for TDs on occasion) prevented him from being a virtual sitting duck in the pocket to get smashed like Carr was. That's why he was sacked for about 30-35 a season(which still is awful but not "QB-Breaking" awful like Carr who had seasons of 76, 49, and 68 sacks). -
I would be absolutely SHOCKED if Sam does not perform well with this offense. Of course, the other key is the O-Line keeping him upright and him not running for his life like he did in NY. We'll soon find out.

Yep. And I got poo'd in that thread by kungfoodude for telling someone that the title of the thread should be "Le'veon Bell tells the Truth about Gase and his Playcalling". Am I wrong? -
Tbh with you, I wasn't even here for Jake, Cam, or even Teddy. I came here when Sam came here. And what I was doing was answering CP's absurd take that he'll always be Anti-Sam unless he wins a Superbowl. I mean let's be frank here : If winning a SuperBowl is the prerequisite for CP liking a QB, then(using CP's criteria there) Teddy, Cam, and even Jake failed that. So in essence, he should be Anti-Teddy/Cam/Jake then. Fair? Of course he then backtracks and says he likes Jake and Cam(even says he liked Teddy until he "got tired of him", whatever that means)....lol
-
So in other words, Bell was simply repeating a truth about Adam Gase (that he basically sucks as Head Coach). Strange how that observation deserved a Poo according to you, @kungfoodude.

I am envying both of you right now. I'm going to my brother's house tomorrow and he'll be doing some BBQ but not the BBQ you two are talking about. The usual fare of Hot Dogs, Burgers, and Chicken. None of that pulled pork goodness. Oh well. Bon Appetite. lol -
