It's unfortunate Matt Rhule's time in Carolina will be remembered for how gutless he was when it came to filling the most important position in sports. I think he has one more year until the paper's start coming for Tepper as the losing seasons pile up, after which we'll see some new faces and hit reset yet again.

Fake reason, you need two to tango. Real reason, the front office is scared. They did their homework on one or two prospects where they were 100% comfortable with taking them. One of them was gone, and Horn was sitting there. It's why the pick took so long. There were people in the room very much advocating for two other players, but because both the coach and GM feel the need to play it safe they opted with the guy they were sure on. Not really a great scene.

No, some did, and they mostly like this pick actually. The reason then was that since Hurney made the pick it was obviously stupid. The reasoning behind most people's dissent today however is because of how absurd the idea of drafting a cornerback 8th overall is. It's not going to push the team into any kind of contention, and that's even if he lives up to the 8th pick, which will be very difficult for him to do.

It probably won't be, just looking at other teams. You need so many pieces to field a great defense. There's countless teams with elite corners that waste away, or more often end up traded or in free agency because while it's a very needed position, you can also use a mid round pick to get 80% of the production.

I don't think this chubby little liar has much of an idea on how to build a team if I'm being honest. I guess it's the Panthers turn to truly be an NFL bottom feeder.

To answer the question, I can't think of any. It's actually much more often they outright bust being this highly picked.

Hopefully he can beat the odds of being a top 10 corner pick. It's been rough looking back at how highly drafted corners have been busting. I don't really understand the pick from a team building stand point. I guess they must be sold on Darnold, God help us, because this will make any chance of grabbing a quarterback very difficult in the future. Building the defense first without a quarterback is something well documented. Though maybe we can pull of a 49er's trade in a few years too.
