This does not inspire confidence in Fitt’s job security after the season.
-
Agreed. It’s like we haven’t learned the lessons of the past few years. Accumulating picks is valuable, especially when you’re going to be up against cap issues, and we continue to piss them away.
-
The cap is yet another reason why Fitterer needs to go with Rhule. I don’t want to hear the “cap is a myth” argument. That whole philosophy centers around kicking the can (in terms of the $$$ bill) down the road so you can maximize your competitiveness in the immediate future. It’s great when you’re doing it to make playoff runs. It makes absolutely zero sense when you’re going for 5 or less wins for the fifth straight year. Let a new GM figure out how to get us out of cap hell.

Easy fix here, draft Bryce Young and hire Ken Dorsey
BlueBuck24 replied to GOAT's topic in Carolina Panthers
Panthers are actually set up quite well for a young QB, provided they make the right coaching hires. CMC at RB DJM WR1 6th overall pick at LT Christiansen looking good at LG Moton locked in at RT Corbett locked in at RG I left Robby out because his future is uncertain and idk what the rest of the WR room looks like. Sign a nice veteran TE in free agency, draft/sign a center, and it’s a nice nucleus. -

Scouting helmets is a really terrible idea. Just going to repeat this every year around this time. -
Dream HC/OC/DC Combination For Next Year?(Week 2 Edition)
BlueBuck24 replied to Asaria's topic in Carolina Panthers
Find me the best offensive guru out there. Let him hire a good NFL DC and give that person full control over that side of the ball. Draft a QB with our Top 5 pick. Profit. Also. Fire Fitterer too. Clean house entirely. -
If Rhule is gone, I hope Fitt is gone as well and we start over fresh. A true new era. I was not a fan of Fitt’s hiring (Go get Adam Peters and give him full control, FFS) and am not a fan of the methods of roster building that they’ve been going for. I also very seriously question whether Fitt would’ve been hired if the role wasn’t essentially for Rhule’s assistant GM.

When did you figure out Rhule was a fraud?

When we traded for Sam Darnold. -
This team with last year’s schedule? You have me buying in to potential playoff talk and 9 wins. But this year’s schedule is very difficult. It would genuinely not be surprising if we started off 0-7 going into Atlanta.
-
agreed. Love his profile and physical skills, so hope he puts it all together.

Scouting the helmet in terms of NFL success at the position, from the school previously, is really misguided and most scouts will actually tell you that. FWIW, my Ohio State sources have raved about Stroud since he was Fields’ backup. There’s a reason Chris Olave stayed an extra year when he likely would’ve been a first round pick I love Anthony Richardson though, as a prospect. If you’re looking for Josh Allen, that’s the guy in this draft that I’d bet on (with Will Levi’s close behind).
-
Not sure if he counts given he’s a first round pick, but god would I love for it to be Icky Ekwonu.
-
We’re potentially only one year away from a new coach, new GM, and hopefully a top flight rookie QB. On an actually positive note though, there’s a lot of promising young talent on this roster (Icky, Horn, Burns, Chinn, Brown) to name a few that should be primed to take the next step. I always love watching DJM too, and a healthy CMC would be great.

This franchise really has no vision, or actual plan, does it? Just a bunch of random moves cobbled together.
-
My ideal draft for the Panthers last year was: Fields at 8 Creed Humphrey in the 2nd Trey Smith in the 3rd (I apparently way overestimated his draft value) Would’ve been nice to set us up for this year.
-
The quoted tweet we responded to was about the Bears *already* considering moving on from Fields. Your article says that they would have to consider that he may not be “the guy” if he struggles in 2022. Which, would make sense. But is not what we were responding to. FWIW, my OSU sources have said the Bears are very excited about the flashes they saw from Fields this past year. They think a better coaching staff will help big time, and they are prepared to be patient. They’re in a bit of cap and asset hell right now so they may not be able to properly build around him until 2023, and things could change in a year, but they really like him in Chicago.
-
My sources at OSU are saying his car died, he was outside of it checking it out, when he was struck and killed by another car. Terrible. RIP Simba. One of the greats in OSU history. Gone too soon….

Next year’s QB crop is better. Let’s wait until then.

There’s an insane amount of revisionist history going on in this thread. The 2022 class was widely expected to be a bad QB class. John Lynch even said it played a role in their decision to trade up for Lance at the time. Howell and Rattler were looked at as the prime guys in the class at the time, but nowhere near the level of any of the top 4 from 2021 as prospects. -
Would not be opposed to Howell in the 2nd round. Or any other QB really. Just don’t want us squandering #6 or putting first round capital on a QB this year.

Bill Belichick was at the same party.

Was a student assistant my senior year under Urban at Ohio State in undergrad and also took his coaching class. There’s a zero percent chance he didn’t know who Aaron Donald was. Much more believable is how hard (borderline insane) he was on his players and staff. Urban was always terrible to work for but the payoff in college was that you’d likely get a HC job. He believed 100% that people performed their best when they were uncomfortable and constantly grated on people to motivate them. That this didn’t work with grown men professionals doesn’t surprise me. He wasn’t dealing with a bunch of 18-21 year old amateurs anymore. While I was simply a glorified secretary and coffee fetcher, I avoided Urban like the plague as much as I could. Fortunately, I was attached to the offensive room with Tom Herman (and Zach Smith), and we didn’t get as much heat as the defensive room did with how historically bad the defense was that year, so it wasn’t as difficult.

It’s really going to happen, isn’t it? They’re really going to draft Kenny Pickett.
