If Darnold plays well,do they keep him around?
Diehardpanth02 replied to Jmac's topic in Carolina Panthers
Listen the dude is talented. You don't make it to the pros and not be at least somewhat talented. I'm not going to sit and pick him apart bc there is a lot to like. He seems to plant that front foot, and rely on his arm strength quite a bit, and coming from an RPO offense, and to the preseason it seems to take him a bit to long to move on reads. Those things couple together can spell trouble if he's indecisive, foot gets planted and he's staring down a read..he showed this in the preseason as I mentioned. He seems indecisive, and a bit paranoid in the pocket. Which may loosen with reps. I just haven't seen enough to bank on him, and that's all I've been saying all along. You can't bank on ifs at the position. He needs time to grow. And we don't have time. So if he pans out who knows, I just think it's a very small chance it's here. -

Lmao ok buddy. And what facts do you stand on that Corral will be starting, much less in a backup role. He barely even had a completion in the opportunities he's had..and then based on the only other body of work which is college, he did nothing to set himself apart. This is all based on what we know and statistics which is all we have to go by. Your saying he's good. So how are you not the one staying opinions like they are fact? Are you a Democrat? -

His traits being that his throwing mechanics are terrible. Pocket awareness is non existent. And based on the offenses that he has been a part of, which is all we have to go by at this point, shows that he has a minimal knowledge of the game. Most colleges do not run an advanced offensive game compared to the NFL level. I don't want to rule him out, I hope he does good. Saves us money, and draft picks. I just don't see it based on the facts and history of the guy at the position..I'm sorry that hurt you and the other guy commenting feelings. Footwork, Mechanics, Knowledge of the game all seem lackluster. He does seem to have the mindset so there is that. But that has taken him this far, the rest will be determined how much he can retain and put into play. Maybe he will get more of an opportunity bc it is fair to say he didn't get the reps. But at the same time those reps had to be earned and he has been able to do that as of yet. We shall see, if he ever even steps on the field in a starting role, temporarily or permanent, just seems unlikely. Just not sure why so many are obsessed with a below average QB, that really hasn't shown much. But hey, go off. It really doesn't make a difference to me. I just want to see competent QB play and a glorified Will Greer is what he strikes me off as. And Greer had a better college career and has managed to make the field on game days LOL -

Yeah you know nothing about me personally. I want us to win lol, that's why I think betting on Corral is a pipe dream..I've laid out my facts and reason on other posts. I'll let you go on your rant. -

Funny, 1 TD and 257 yards/ game with less than 70% completion percentage on average spells doesn't spell world beater to me. Not to mention in college, they were averaging less than 30 attempts per game, which tells me they preferred running the ball. Kind of like the Panthers now, who can't trust their passing game. Pat Mahomes for example, averaged 421 yds and over 3 tds per game with his arm. Let's assume legs equate to the same skill level, which they don't because Mahomes awareness is through the roof, and he is 3xs the QB Corral was statistically in comparison of their best seasons in college. These are the types of guys who win Superbowls in the NFL, and if you wanna sit here and tell me otherwise..you are most.likely the one with little to no football knowledge. I could scheme you under the table, I've coached I've played, and I've scouted. I've studied this game. And while your entitled to your opinion, your also entitled to being disagreed with. Matt Corral has yet to prove himself to be nothing more than an athlete that throws. Until he doesn't look like a scared little girl in anything other than a preseason game, against college level 2s and 3s(which he should be used to) under center then we can talk. Until then, go ride his elsewhere. -

What traits? The only traits that matter are the one that are proven. He's shown little awareness. The only thing I will give you is his drive could help him succeed. The guy seems to want to win. But wanting to, and actually doing are two different things. The fact that just because someone disagreeing with you gets you so upset is kind of joke to me. Shows me that you have a bias towards the dude. I'm looking at him objectively like all of our QBs. He can't make the field with our worst possible QB locker room, he damn sure ain't good enough to make us competitive. -

No expert on Corral..just watched a lot of football and he doesn't show any traits that indicates he is a starter caliber QB, much less a long term answer. To act as if he has proven otherwise is laughable. His preseason games were God awful. -
Cryptic message from Stanley McClover

No need in explanation. People don't understand the game. RBs are a dime dozen. DEs like Brian Burns who have natural pass rushing ability are not. -

There is a 99.99% chance if we start Matt Corral at QB next year that we may not win a single ball game. PJ maybe gets us 3 wins. -
That's a cop out. No one play, player or part of the game is solely responsible for the outcomes. Except maybe a kicker. Refs make calls. And don't make calls..it happens. If Cam recovers that fumble we may win, if Ron comes in prepared we may win that game. If Mike Tolbert holds on to the football we may win that game. If Remmers wasn't a turn style we may win that game. Football isn't a sport where you can blame one person, player or ref. It's a culmination of moving parts, that's the beauty of it. To win a ball game. It takes all 11 players playing their best each play. Coaching being on their toes each play. And hopefully enough calls go your way that in the end you have a chance to win. People that blame refs suffer from vaginosis.

Don't Shoot Me (panther related)

So not a fan of anything cool. Got it. -
This new age obsession with "offensive" gurus blows my mind honestly. It only tells me that people know nothing about the game. Andy Reid. Bellichek. And even Sean McVay wasn't some young offensive gurus. They came from extensive coaching background or even family, and understand that football is a multi dimensional sport. The best coaches win by doing the basics, and doing them fundamentally well. Not drawing up the annexation of puerta Rico, and hoping the defense is even half way good enough

It's absolutely pitiful. In this NFL, if you can't stop the run you ain't got a chance in hell at winning a football game. The BASICS of football doesn't exist at the pro-level in Charlotte. Luke and TD have to be ashamed to have ever even represented this team. -

I have legit never seen a Carolina team this bad at stopping the run..it's embarrassing we just get manhandled at the point of attack. -

Let's be honest. DJ doesn't deserve this.

Bad move. But we wouldn't be here if he doesn't make that play. This right here is a knee jerk reaction. Still football left. -

Our offensive line is dominating this quarter. It's refreshing to watch. We look like a totally different team without that retard coach, and 100million $RB -
That play was nasty. He wrecked that guard. Ran through the RB and made the play on the QB in a read option. The skill and awareness on that was really Impressive.
-
That's the typical assessment of the black QB with running ability. "He's not NFL Ready". He comes from a "one read" option offense. And of course the sub-par white QBs on the title contender that has a plethora of weapons that literally anyone could chunk the ball up to get described as pro ready. Mel Kiper is a nut job. Mcshay, I can't even put a face on. But what the media thinks and what is reality is two totally different things. See Lamar Jackson. Robert Griffin. Mike Vick. Cam Newton. Randall Cunningham. Steve McNair. Daunte Culpepper. All had the exact same assessments.

Baker Mayfield is worse than Sam Darnold. It's unbelievable how bad our QB room is, PJ may very well be our best option under center. -
He really is bad.
-
Pretty simple if you ask me. Stop being an idiot, and taking a 5 stop drop on a play action for first down. Hand the ball off to your all pro running back, and give you QB short 2nd and 3rd down opportunities, with quick reads. When the defense collapses on this, open it up and throw underneath after. Idk why we can't just commit to the run Early considering who we have back there. It's honestly amazing at they're situational lack of awareness.
