This would not surprise me. But who besides CMC? Could Burns, DJ, Gross-Matos or Brown be on the block? I think Burns is actually the most likely. He was a Pro-Bowler. He is young. If we resign Reddick and Keep Haynes he may be viewed as the most expendable player that could result in a decent return of draft capital. But if we are willing to trade a player like Burns (or the others)...what's to keep Rhule and Fit from trading instead for Cousins, Carr, or Jimmy G. Can you imagine those teams with Burns coming off the edge combined with the weapons they already have.....

IMO there is no QB in this draft that we should consider at #6. The #6 pick should be the OT (Neal or the NC State Kid). Trade back if they are not available or pick the next best OL prospect. Trading back will be hard because of the fact no one else wants to move up for a QB. I am hoping one or two of the QB prospects kill their prodays and the combine and maybe peak someone's interest enough to want our pick...but again the teams around us on the draft board will make that trade difficult.

All of these guys seem to stare down their #1 option, but Highlights are generally plays were you get that read and its successful. I have always thought Pickett seemed the most NFL ready. Besides him I like Zappe in the later rounds. Ridder to me is the most interesting as far as upside. He seems to run away from people. Willis while a good athlete, doesn't seem to do that to people even playing against Liberty's schedule, so his athleticism may not be as NFL ready as some of the others. Strong has great deep ball but i've seen too many games where his decision-making and intermediate game haven't been on point. Matt Corral to me seems to be a kid who has all the ability, and can sometimes make great decisions, but not with any real consistency. Corral did make plays against SEC defenses, however, which to me is something to be considered. Howell is tough for me to analyze because I'm a homer. He has obvious talent but too many times I've watched him fail to make meaningful plays when games were on the line. I like him and his talent but that worries me. The other kid from Iowa St. I literally know nothing about and so can't accurately judge him besides to say his highlights were great (like all of the other kids highlights).

You guys are right but Rhule and Fit are going to try to win to save their a--. There is no way we are rolling with Sam. They will make a move...either FA, Low-End Trade, or even via the draft.

Panthers unable to reach a deal to hire Giants' Thomas McGaughey
Michael G replied to Michael G's topic in Carolina Panthers
Hmmm... I kind of followed it up with my take. I guess its more of a commentary than cliff notes though. I apologize for not hitting the highlights of the article. -
Barring some Miracle Darnold will be on the team. I would expect competition from a FA like T. Taylor, or a low-end trade such as Gardner Minshew. It will be a new system and hopefully open competition. Darnold will look good cuz he knows he won't get hit in camp. I think the odds will be weighted against him cuz he is not popular amongst us fans. The other guy wins the gig and starts the season (hopefully with a decent recently upgraded OL) and we at least play low-level mediocre football next year. We might win 7 games and the 7 year rebuild will continue because the Process is 1000% working (0.02% of the time).
-
Yep...I do not see him as not a viable option for us at all even if we thought he was the answer.
-
I bet we kick the tires on a Minshew Trade. He has a connection with Macadoo and we sniffed around that deal earlier last year.
-
Its hard to say what will happen. I really wonder how Rhule and Fit consider the current players they have on the Roster. I'm sure they want someone else to compete with Sam at QB. How much say will Macadoo have in choosing what happens. You'd think he is going to institute a completely new offense (differnt blocking schemes..everything). Is the plan to try to fit it to Darnold....or is it to build an offense and then find a guy he wants to run it. Is that guy already in the League somewhere. I seen people in the Media say he was hired to fix Sam but I hope he was brought in the take control of the offense and bring in players who can run it.

There is no way anyone will take Darnold, especially they have to pay his contract. We re not going to pay him to play somewhere else...I mean who would do that....oh nevermind

Panthers unable to reach a deal to hire Giants' Thomas McGaughey

Is there news of any coaches turning down other teams or is it just us (Pep and TM)? It is definitely not a good look. It tells you what the league thinks about our Coaches and FO right now. -

Would Andrew Norwell be interested in coming back?
Michael G replied to hepcat's topic in Carolina Panthers
I do not like the idea of Christensen as a G. He doesn't seem to have the power. I could see him learning to play C if he can communicate and learn the protections. Otherwise he is a backup option at LT. I think ELF is our center next year (I hope not). Moton will be back. The other starting positions I think will be filled by players not currents on the roster. -
The way we pass the ball this might not be the worst idea...We better really bulk up the OL.

Panthers conducting 2nd interview with Jay Gruden today
Michael G replied to UNCrules2187's topic in Carolina Panthers
"The Carolina Panthers are continuing to talk to several folks about their open offensive coordinator job, but have already spoken and interviewed seven candidates - Mike Groh (Colts WRs coach), Scottie Montgomery (Colts RBs coach), Ben McAdoo (Cowboys consultant), Luke Getsy (Packers QBs coach), Tim Kelly (former Texans OC), Klint Kubiak (Vikings OC), and Jay Gruden."-FanNation.com So is Gruden the best man for the job when compared to the other 6 who have interviewed? IMO I might put Getsy and Kubiak ahead of him (maybe Kelly too), but he does have more coaching experience and OC experience than most of the other candidates. I think that was the main criteria Rhule said he wanted. -
Yeah...Rici was actually a WR in college. You'd think he'd have a role that saw him catching the ball from time to time rather than doing the real dirty work. Not saying he could not learn to do it, just learn it on the practice squad.
-
I was kind of hyped when we drafted Tremble. I saw him as a versatile weapon and thought he'd play in the backfield, inline and flexed out. I think we under utilized him especially coming out of the backfield. For some reason Giovanni Rici was turned into our FB and I can't remember him being too effective in that role. With Thomas leaving in Free Agency that will leave Tremble as our undisputed #1 option at TE, pending whoever comes in as a FA or via the draft for the 2022 season. What do you guy guys think about that? Do you guys think Tremble will work out? Or will he be a bust? Tell me how you feel.

Bring in someone cheap to compete with Darnold. Preferably someone who doesn't turn the ball over and is relatively mobile (like T. Taylor maybe...). Draft O-Line prospects like they're cornerbacks and bring in (or draft) a FA RB to help pound the rock (a bigger downhill back who can pass protect). Give DJ more carries and CMAC more reps out wide or in the slot and design a clock-control offense with lots of wrinkles that utilize our skill players.

To Tepper. "Buy Low and Sell High" is a common saying in the stock market community. It seems simple enough but there can be a lot of work that goes into it. I think mostly success following this motto comes because of skill in evaluating the products and markets involved. Based on your portfolio you probably are someone with this skill, or at least consult with people who have it. In football evaluation is pretty important too. Its more than just measuring arm length and suggested versatility. "Buying low and Selling High" is still an important concept in football, but the evaluation is different. Please invest in getting some people on the Coaching Staff and FO that have these skills where football in concerned, because based on the product (The 2021-22 Carolina Panthers) you, and nobody you have been consulting with lately have this skill. Sincerely MG

Its a slap in the face when a guy won't even consider an OC Interview. Its true he will have other opportunities but we don't even rate as a fall back....
