We are small. No big dominant tackles. Small ends. So yes I'm a little concerned.

Devin Jones played and UNC Pembroke. He's small (short anyway). It would be a big deal for that program to have him make an NFL roster. Has anyone from that school ever played on an NFL team?

A couple of observations about the QB competition from folks who were in attendance.

CJ Saunders was WR#3 or 4 today? Kid was a Pro-day find when we went and looked at J. Fields (Players from the previous year were allowed to participate because of COVID cancellations the previous year) prior to the 2021 draft. He was a UDFA addition in 2021 after that Pro-Day, if I remember correctly. On the PS last year. I remember looking him up last year and his 40 time was really slow for a moderately-sized WR. Does his resume include 1st WR on the field? IMO its interesting he's getting 1st team reps.

Corral is running with bottom of the Roster guys (UDFA's and Mini-camp tryout signings). That said I like Josh Babicz. He's big (6'6) and was a fairly reliable target at NDSU. He played special teams as well so he may have a chance to stick at least on the PS.

Looks like Dunlap is definitely interested, but expects to have a shot to play a lot.

Rhule PC today ahead of training camp
Michael G replied to Captain Morgan's topic in Carolina Panthers
This is a bigger dude (340-350lbs, at just under 6'2). A 1st round pick several years ago, but has been more or less a rotational player. If he signs he may be the run-stuffer we need on early downs (fingers crossed we find someone who is) -
The second part of this statement isn't necessarily a good thing. If you take into account that too many times last year it seemed teams had great field position and only needed a few plays to score.
-
Yeah- Our first set of scripted plays for the first drive seemed to mostly go well. Our offense just couldn't do anything later that required coaches to adjust and react accordingly in games. Add that to poor situational football pretty much and we really struggled.
-
Deonte was good at Bama. He did not get pushed into the QB and he routinely rooted guys out of there gaps. His performance was worth way better than a 6th round grade. His trouble with conditioning (unless there is truth to the suggestion about other off-field issues) is his biggest determent. I had forgot about Mays- He seems like a real good kid with some upside. Maybe Camden can get something out of him and Deonte.
-
According to the Panther's website Deonte is at 335lb. I'm not sure if that weight was recorded at the end of last season or at OTAs (or even his actual recorded weight). Hopefully he will be shape and ready to compete coming into camp.

To Me Brady is the "?". He seemed to struggle playing G more than T last year. Larger DT's just bullied him sometimes and he got very little push in the run game (I could see him pulling and Icky smashing down successfully on certain plays tho). He is pretty smart, has good feet, but a little light to be the kind of Guard we may need (unless he has gotten stronger somehow). Icky is our LT though. I think he gets 1st shot because of his draft status and pure physicality. I Think Brady may be our versatile 6th lineman who can play anywhere- maybe even center in time. I'd love to see Deonte improve his game and get in there beside Icky on the left. I'd assume those 2 would really move the line of scrimmage in our offense's favor, I just don't know if he has improved his conditioning and fundamentals enough to really compete for a spot.

i've seen a few roster projections already by different Media Outlets for the Panthers including SI and ESPN. Most have our starting OL looking like this: C-Bozeman, LT- Icky, LG- Brady C, RT- Taylor M., and RG- Austin C. Do you think this is our best OL combo? I have also heard that Brady C and Icky might trade spots, or that Elfein will play Center and Bozeman LG with Brady on the bench. Rhule seems to love Michael J., Many huddlers had high hopes for Deonte B. last year and Cam Erving is still on the roster getting paid way too much. What do you think our starting OL will (or should) look like this year? Why?

Jessie Bates III wants out of Cincinatti.
Michael G replied to mickeye76's topic in Carolina Panthers
If I understand the situation correctly, Bates has been Franchise tagged for a little under 13m and was offered 16m+ or so a year (for 5 years) but with very little guaranteed by Cincy. The deal never got done so now he has to play under the tag. He is threatening to sit out. I'm not sure we would be willing to pay that kind of $. -
Would you welcome back Star Lotulelei.....
Michael G replied to TheBigKat's topic in Carolina Panthers
I'm not sure Star is the guy we need. If he has something left in the tank then SURE. We do need someone (a DT), IMO, who can hold the LOS and stay in his gap. That is definitely a piece we are missing unless Brown or Roy take a huge leap. I don't see Iionnadis or Nixon as being that type of DT. -
IMO Rhule/Brady really let the QBs position down. Why is PJ on the roster if he isn't gonna play when QB1 is playing poorly or hurt? The OL was a disaster last year after CMC went down and when teams got some tape on us- No changes to scheme or play calling were made to help Sam (I'm not coddling Sam he sucks and never should have gotten an extension before proving he was worth it). Everyone knew how to attack us and we made few to no changes to stop it (Nixon seemed to be lost when he took over as OC and I could not tell a difference in the O at all from before except for the Arizona Game with Cam sharing a few reps). Our QBs didn't play well last year (or the year before-Teddy was better than Darnold but..)and IMO its due largely to coaching or lack thereof, not just the ability of those players.

With our schedule 8 wins might shock the world!

MC9 = Matt Coral
-
Baker and Sam are in Contract years. Both will be gone next year unless one of them (Baker Maybe?), Plays really well. If that happens the FO will have a big decision to make. MC9 will really have to impress even if he's riding the pine. Even the chargers offered an injured Drew Brees a contract with P. Rivers waiting in the wings. A new contract for Baker in that scenario would keep Matt on the Bench, and the Panthers out of any Stroud/Young/(whoev's a top QB) pick in next year's draft.

Baker Mayfield has a lot to prove, period!
Michael G replied to top dawg's topic in Carolina Panthers
I fmy memoery serves me well,Beuerlein led the league in passing (well over 4 k) , QBR and was 2nd in the league in TD passes (to Kurt Warner League MVP) with 34 or so in 1999 or 2000. He made the Pro Bowl that year. I'd love to see Baker (or any Panther QB) throw for 4K+ yards and 35 TDS this year. -
Brown was kind of seen as that run-stuffing dominant DT would could move the line of scrimmage coming out of Auburn. He has shown spurts of being a decent pass rushing DT in the NFL , but hasn't really been able to develop into a guy who needs to be double-teamed in order to move him out of his gap. We need that guy (A real big-bodied space eater) beside him and Brown's game I think will certainly improve.
