Two Teens Arrested For Thomas Davis Home Break In
Michael G replied to KatsAzz's topic in Carolina Panthers
Those kids would have broken into Davis's garage no matter who is President. The Justice system is a mess and has been for a long time. I have several family members who have stolen, sold drugs, destroyed property and beaten people and been charged with associated crimes. They have plead guilty or took pleas in any case that wasn't dropped by the state (and several were). Not 1 has really been held accountable in a meaningful way. This is over a period of several years (Bush Years, Obama Years, and Trump years). It sucks. Spend time with your kids, help people that need help, be a good example (and maybe stay the Heck away from my family). That might might help. Whoever you vote for matters but not as much as what you do in your community. *gets off soap box* -
Yeah- I Think Reddick will usually be a stand up OLB/Edge Rusher in odd fronts. That's his niche. If he's in with the 4-3 Base packages he'll be blitzing from the SAM.

I know we have Perryman slated to start at the MIKE most likely, but does anyone think Shaq adding weight means more reps inside? I guess added weight is a plus either way if your speed and conditioning aren't negatively affected though. Also Christian Miller is be projected as a LB- he was taking snaps as a SAM (at least I think I heard that in an interview).

Exactly the QB has a lot of options and event the progressions from the same play change if not the entire play call depending on what the read is. In NY it has been reported that the QB ran the play the way it was called up and there weren't a lot of pre-snap decisions that the QB had to make. I am wondering if it was "dumbed down" because Darnold couldn't run a more complicated system or just because that was the basic ssytem there no matter the QB?
-
I read somewhere that in Gase's offense the progressions were static and very "set". I was never sure if this was a result of Darnold's decision making or just the way Gase wanted it. Darnold wasn't allowed to audible much and so if the defense seemed prepared for the plays that were called he just had to go through the same progressions that were determined. It seems that Brady's system (based on Ryan's comments) has a lot more moving parts and possible options that the QB has to consider pre-snap before going through his progressions (which may change based on what the situation is in game and what the defense shows). It will be interesting to see if Darnold can manage to learn it all and put it all into effect.

You would think the writing is on the wall, but I have not heard any mention of any of the other TE's (Besides Arnold or Tremble) on the Roster really stepping up as of yet, if one of them does then Thomas is definitely out, I'd think...but so far no one's saying C. Thompson or S. Sullivan (or Giovanni Ricci) looked really good today. They might cut him later and bring in someone after the rosters are trimmed.

Joe B. might be a top 5 play caller from the 20 to the 20. The Red Zone seemed like a different story last year.

So does anyone know who pencils in at RT if Moton is playing LT? Our boy Greg Little?

IM going to go watch "From Dusk to Dawn" now.

The Eagles also waived UDFA WR Trevon Grimes today with an injury designation. He was a Florida Receiver who a lot of analysts had going in the middle rounds of the 2021 draft. He was a 6'4 receiver with 4.5 speed. A big-bodied red zone threat.

Jeremy Igo @CarolinaHuddle · 1h Daley spent a whole lot of time at left tackle today with the ones. Remains an interesting prospect there, just needs to stay healthy. Dennis D. working with the ones at LT today!

With the salary cap the way it is there are always going to be holes somewhere on the roster. I did not like everything we did this offseason, but I can see why most of the moves we made were made. I think I understand how the team is being put together and why. The FO is actively trying to make the team better, for that reason I am more optimistic than I have been in a awhile. In so many past years I've noticed how the team seemed to overpay declining players and really not seem to have a noticeable plan to solve issues that would make the team better. That's why I'm a little more optimistic this year- I can see the team trying to fix things even if its not exactly how I would try to do it.

Yep- Like Shi he was injured, but Blackburn seemed really excited about him

https://www.panthers.com/video/chase-blackburn-presser-joey-slye-offseason-jj-jansen-thomas-fletcher We have discussed the possible future competition at Kicke in another thread.. Some other points of Note from Blackburn's Presser: - David Moore and CJ Saunders are top returners right now. Shi Smith has been hurt so has not had as many reps (especially at PR). Trenton Cannon has took reps as KR. DJ Moore and CMC both still taking reps as returners - Joe Charlton really improving as a holder. Blackburn hinted at some troubles there for him last year that could have impacted Joey Slye's performance - JJ versus T-Fletch. Both are playing well. The competition is real. T-Fletch is as good as JJ at snapping but has some setbacks learning protections. It seems about neck and neck now as Fletcher is improving with protection.

Anderson put together a good season last year- a lot of that was due to how he was used. He also had more opportunities (especially with CMC missing time). He wants an extension now because he may not be worth as much next year. Part of these moves will be credited to Robby's agent. I would be surprised by a holdout and think the Panthers might actually trade him before paying him this year. If Robbie can come in and plays this year and plays as well as last year- his market as a FA will be through the roof. The Panthers won't pay that either (but someone else will). If his stats take a step back because he loses touches, then he won't be worth as much next year and the Panthers will try to extend him on the cheap (his value as a FA won't be as much either). Its all business. Robby wants the team to pay him now because he's worth more now (most likely). The team knows and Robby's agent knows. A holdout with no new deal will lead to Robby eventually coming in without one, and trying to play for a payday next year or him being traded.

Darnold's QBR was higher than Tannehill's
Michael G replied to SBBlue's topic in Carolina Panthers
I was not Cam's biggest fan. I liked Jake because of his story (backup-stepping in and playing well) and their style's and demeanors just seemed so different. That said: I Think Cam did try to change, especially after he was hurt. He started out under N. Turner practicing a shorter more compact motion that looked pretty good for awhile and his completion rate went way up, but consistent pressure late in the season led to further injury and regression to old habits. Cam worked hard, was super talented, just not really helped by his coaching and the offense that was put together around him (Who was brought after Steve left to help at WR? Benjamin?). Olsen came over that same year Cam was drafted but .......what about the 8 or 9 other years? -
I guess its all about how we define "mediocre"---You make a good point-I agree that it should be time to move on if we are winning "despite" his play.
-
I would love to have Great, but mediocre play from Darnold that ends with us winning games and making playoff runs will result in an extension. If Teddy won some of those games last year (0-8) we wouldn't have Darnold on the team at all. Mediocre plus winning will mean we extend Darnold and we can get that with the way we are improving in other areas. The issue that we run into will Darnold's "mediocre" be good enough to win the Big Game with a pretty good supporting cast. I think that's where having Great QB play really makes a difference because you want someone who can LEAD the team down the field and win the game. When I watch guys like Wilson, Rodgers, Rothlisberger and Brady get the ball back with the chance to win the game on the final drive I feel like its a done deal- the other team shouldn't left any time on the clock. I did not feel that way with "mediocre" Teddy. Quite the opposite. I hope when Sam has the ball at those time I at least feel like we have a chance.
-
I think we are tied to Darnold for at least 2 years if he stays relatively healthy and improves. If he goes from "NY-Jets Bad" to mediocre in one season that is still a huge jump. With an improved defense, a strong running game, and a couple of close games that we can win on the final drive or put away with a stop by the defense I'll be very happy. With what we've had around here since Cam got hurt several years ago it'd seem like we've won the lottery. We should extend mediocre especially if their are signs of continuing progress. Darnold's still young, so mediocre might still turn into pretty darn good after a possible extension. My only issue with an extension for mediocre play is if we pay superstar $ on a long term deal. The pay and length of the contract should match the performance.

Yep- Its a blessing that comes with some burden. Hopefully this works out for TJ, the Olsen's, and the donor's family. We are praying for them all.

Which Positions Have The Panthers Improved Most This Off Season
Michael G replied to KatsAzz's topic in Carolina Panthers
Two of our main issues last year: 1. Getting off the field on third down-(This is why we went with Horn at #8, brought in Bouye, and added Taylor at #5.) 2. Making plays downfield at the end of games- (We got rid of Teddy and brought in Sam who has arm talent and can make plays out of structure) It is well documented how close 8 of our losses were and what happened at the end of those games. Many of our offseason moves (like them or not) are attempts to fix those issues. We seem to have improved our CB room, and our QB, despite all his flaws, has the traits we wanted. The perceived ?s at LT, and really the whole OL outside of Moton, is our next biggest issue. Our improvements there are as debated as our QB move. I think we did get a little better (I think our Guard Play will improve this year), and with a healthy CMAC and a more consistent run threat our pass pro will improve too (not as many 3rd and longs).
