Carolina Panthers Training Camp - Thursday Thread
Michael G replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
If I remember correctly Rhule's issues with Charlton weren't with his punting, but more with his holding and other duties. With an offseason it sounds like maybe that stuff's sorted out. There should be no more excuses for Slye. Hopefully these guys will both play well. -

Hmmm...is it too early for CMC to have his spot on Lock...really Bill? -

I wonder if anyone ever trades these guys jerseys to see if they notice. I can see David Moore (OL) stuck in Dj or David Moore's (WR) Jersey....or the opposite. -

https://www.panthers.com/video/derrick-brown-previews-2021-season-good-morning-football-nfl-network Here's a link to Panthers.com- The video shows Brown on NFL Networks GMFB. He seems focused. Pretty Good interview.

The tweet above short just says he was let go by the panthers due to injuries and surgeries on his shoulder. It is definitely an old pic- they are fans in the stands.

I doubt we spend any of that money on anyone that's available now. IMO our D-line is pretty set (Jones, Brown, Roy, Nixon with Fox and Yetur totatin inside at times and Yetur, Burns, Haynes, Reddick and sometimes Fox and MIller on the edge). I think if anyone of note is released during roster cut-downs we may pull the trigger on some more O-line help or a safety. WE will definitely shuffle a few players on the bottom of the deph chart probably. We shall see.

9-8 or 10-7 I think a heavy dose of CMC and a defense that gets off the field on 3rd downs (unlike last year). helps us win more of those close games. If Darnold plays really well (Oline Gels somehow) and CMC stays healthy we may do even better.

We will be in the Super Bowl next year

I'm hoping we make it, but I think it might be these guys... -
What are our options if Darnold Gets Injured?
Michael G replied to Michael G's topic in Carolina Panthers
Yeah- He has thrown a TD pass. Reggie B played some QB in college and our punter (Joseph C.) completed a ball last year. -

Yeah if he was playing with me, Chris Christie, Nancy Pelosi, Tinker Bell, and Jimmy Clausen on the playground (and one of the team captains was his Mama). jk The kid may have some ability. I honestly would like to see him get another chance...maybe in the preseason this year. -

C'mon Man...that's an uncatchable overthrow. It wouldn't have even been able to get a flag thrown! He's lucky that trash can was back there so he didn't have to chase the ball too far.... -
What are our options if Darnold Gets Injured?
Michael G replied to Michael G's topic in Carolina Panthers
The options would be very limited right now because NFL rosters are still at 90. I tend to think the team would roll with PJ (or Will) and move up whoever QB they have stashed on the Practice Squad. Besides RG3 FA options right now would include guys like Matt Moore, Jordan Ta'mu, Brett Hundley and even Joe Webb. Once rosters are cut down I find it hard to believe the PJ or Will (or any of the current available FA's) would be our best alternate option but I believe the team will stick to guys on the roster, unless we are in the playoff hunt. -
Agreed--Its always the next guy up who gets paid. lots of high level guys get "top pay" when its time for them to resign. Their agents present them as the best in the league and if teams don't pay them like they are the best-then what's that say about how the team feels about the player?

https://catcrave.com/2021/07/19/5-emergency-options-panthers-lose-sam-darnold-injury-2021/ The above article proposes 5 options if Darnold is injured for a lengthy period of time; The options the Article give are: 1. Will Grier 2. PJ Walker ......our backups so kinda of makes since especially if we've been losing anyway 3. Robert Griffith III ....Is he the best FA available? The Article suggests he is. 4. Nick Foles 5. Daniel Locke ....The article proposes trading for Foles suggesting he will lose his job to Fields or Andy Dalton in Chicago, if we are winning. It also suggests trading to acquire Locke if he loses his job in Denver. I'm not sure I like any of these options. What do you guy think the team should do if Darnold sustains a substantial injury during the season?

Hope, but be real. We don't know what Darnold is, but that's OK.

I've seen this reported in a couple of articles and it concerns me. Our O-line may not be able to keep him standing much longer than the Jets Oline did, but if it does I'm hoping we have a better scheme and improved options like CMC, DJ, and Robby will help him have better options when he has time and when under pressure. -

Due to his O-line allowing pressure up the middle every play, he did do a lot of impromptu-panicked plays. He made a few great plays out of nothing though (Farve did that a lot). I hope he has more time and makes good decisions in our system. Hopefully they'll be fewer ghosts to scare him. -

Stop. He does. I'm not talking about all pro Farve, I'm talking about launching the ball under pressure, trying to make plays no matter what Favre. -

Darnold reminds me of a clean and sober Brett Favre. He is a Gunslinger. His style of play seems a lot different from Teddy's. It will be interesting to see how that style meshes with the offense here and our talent. There are a lot of things he will need to do better, but he should have more tools and options available to help him succeed. Can he learn how to use those tools, stay cool when pressured, and make good choices in our system? I really don't know- I agree with the earlier post (the one with four options). It could go lots of different ways. -

"You can't judge somebody based off of sacks"
Michael G replied to Icege's topic in Carolina Panthers
Pressured and Hurries are better than nothing, but great QBs can often deal with pressure- its getting knocked on their A$$ that affects them. Sacks and QB Hits probably have a higher percentage of causing turnovers (Ints and Fumbles) and TFLs. -
I don't really see Robby and Mike Davis has reclamation projections (I was thinking of guys drafted on day 1 or 2) and Teddy's career year wasn't really a success (especially the 0-8 with the game on the line part). I guess it all depends on what criteria we are using.

Cam Erving has performed well in spots it seems. He has the physical attributes to be very good and a great draft pedigree. He is another reclamation project by this staff, that seems to believe that they can turn good athletes into quality players in their system. This staff really believes they can coach people up. I hope they are right! It will be interesting to see how many of these reclamation projects work (Darnold, Erving, Elf, etc..) They did not have much luck with last years' reclamation projects (Eli Apple, Teddy B., maybe Schofield fits into this category).
