So Who Can/Should we Get as our New OC if Rhule Stays?
Michael G replied to Michael G's topic in Carolina Panthers
It could be another young guy like Brady. Never been an OC- maybe a position coach on the rise like Mike Kafka from KC. Maybe someone like that would jump at the chance to be OC (Although I think Kafka turned down an interview last offseason). -

This is probably our best hope, but the man's older than Phil Snow. -
So Who Can/Should we Get as our New OC if Rhule Stays?
Michael G posted a topic in Carolina Panthers
If Rhule stays we will need to fill some coaching spots. Right Now OC is vacant, with Nixon has Interim. If Nixon somehow gets to be OC then we will need a RB's coach. Our OL coach and QB coach may be in trouble too. That said focusing on the one position we know for sure we need to fill- Who do you think we can get? I didn't ask who is the best candidate B/C a lot of the best current OC's (Dabol, Leftwich) we'd want will be either accepting vacant head coaching positions or staying in the job that got them interviews for head coaching positions, not coming here. The same can be said for most of the Big Names (D. Pederson, Bill Obrien) we might want, that are out of NFL football right now too (Some maybe willing to come here if they cant find a better job- and they probably can). So who does that leave? Realistically who do you think we should bring in (or promote internally) for the job. Please Explain your reasoning. -
Me too.

Is the defense really performing that well?
Michael G replied to Mr. Scot's topic in Carolina Panthers
I think its a little bit of both, there has definitely been a drop off. Whether that's due to injuries in the secondary or stiffer competition later in the year I'm not sure (a little of both again I guess). Earlier in the year our offense scored some. Our rush was better, as was our coverage. The inability to stay in gaps and set the edge (especially on Burns' side) has really been a concern. The recent inability to pressure the QB is starting to be. -
Panthers Bringing back Rhule. Planning to start OC search next week
Michael G replied to ncfan's topic in Carolina Panthers
The most obvious candidates for OC internally would be Nixon and Ryan. Nixon hasn't shown enough as interim IMO and Ryan has struggled, but look at the Poo he has been dealt. I would not be surprised to see Myer fired and Maybe Satterfield brought back in from SC as OL coach (hope not)....Ryan may be safe or he could be fired too and Nixon given his Job or remain as RB coach. There are a lot of possibilities, but whoever they hire as OC will tell us a lot about how much Tepper still trusts Rhule. Outside guy (Prob. not so much), Inside Guy or Rhule Guy (Yeesh!) -
If we don't resign Jackson and Reddick....
Michael G replied to musicman's topic in Carolina Panthers
The formula is also affected by who we sign as FA's as well. So even if we let those and other guys go. If we sign other qualifying players then we may not get any comp. picks -
Jimmy Clausen speaks in support of Matt Rhule on Cameo

Matt Rhule after watching the Cameo -
It all depends on how you look at. Burns is young and talented, especially as a Pass Rusher, but Yetur is Ascending and Luvu is ascending too. Snow can be flexible with his fronts (especially if he can keep Reddick). Burns hasn't been that effective against the run or in coverage so....he might be on the block.

I wonder if packaging the 2 would make someone more likely to take on Cmac's contract?
-
I had not thought about our spot and the teams near us. Yep our pick has a lot less value than in most years. Based on this it would seem trading a player like Cmac, or Burns for draft capital is almost a necessity. We should take BPA at 5 (really best OL or QB) and then hopefully make the best of the picks we can get for trading a player.

Panthers taking offers for Cmac in the off-season
Michael G replied to Leotiger's topic in Carolina Panthers
I am torn on this. Cmac is so dynamic and valuable. He is not your ordinary running back. You can even trace our implosion in pass protection back to when he was hurt. He makes a team better in many ways, but lately it seems he can't stay on the field. I still he think he has a ton a value especially if an offensive scheme uses him creatively in ways that limit his wear and tear. I really hope we don't send him to denver and eat his salary too! -
oh Yeah... Well Rhule would start David Gettis cuz he's got long arms and He was a Baylor Guy!

I do not disagree with some of your statements concerning year one. But year 2 has really been a doozy. What has Robby done this year after getting the Big Contract? Sam Darnold (I can't say how big of a setback that has been). The complete failure of the OL and of this staff to make meaningful adjustments in game and in preparation for games. Our offensive scheme is such a joke. Year 1 was pretty good by some standards. That led to Year 2 which very likely has setback the rebuild. Year 2 and the outlook for Year 3 are the reasons why Rhule is on the Hot Seat.

Those First 3 wins were very misleading. We played the Jets with a Rookie QB. NO without its coaching staff because of COVID and Jameis as the QB and then the Texans with Davis Mills another Rookie getting the start after an injury to Tyrod T. Following those wins we were overconfident. The CMAC injury and poor offensive line play ruined the offense. Defenses figured out they could get Free Runners by a simple blitz or Stunt- Darnold regressed as he starting seeing Ghosts again. DBs jumped obvious short routes that everyone knew had to be coming--These problems started early in the year and our coaches have had no answers. I mean they know what other teams are doing to us...but can't adjust to put the players we have in a better position to succeed, especially when it comes to pass protection.

I'm really not sure if Rhule returns or Not. I think Tepper made a huge obligation to Rhule who promised to get things done right. That "process" would involve giving this staff time (3 years min?) to get things turned around. Its pretty obvious that things do not look good. Moving on from Teddy and the trades that were made mid-year would indicate a FO trying to win now and somewhat mortgaging the future....Its really confusing trying to figure out what the Heck this organization is trying to do. I have never heard so many boo's and "Fire the Coach!" chants as I have heard from Rhule from the Fans. I'm sure Tepper didn't get much of that in regards to the staff in Pittsburgh when he was associated with that franchise. I think that Tepper will fire Rhule on Black Monday. Fit may be safe. We will see.

Our OL is not good (NO SH-T Right?), but so much of our protection problems are due to the scheme, the QB's pocket awareness and happy feet and the TE's/ Back's (not including CMac) inability to pick up blitzes, hence all the opposing free runners towards the QB. Our Pass Protection is miserable as a whole. That said- the ? was about Kenny Pickett. IMO Pickett is the most NFL ready (not the best or most potential) college QB right now. He is not NFL ready enough, however, if he's throwing balls behind this OL/System. No one could be I don't think.

IMO we should bring back Gilmore, Reddick, and maybe Haynes if Possible. I'd also want Luvu, Zylstra, and maybe the Specialists (Gonzalez, Jansen, and Edwards) all back. Everyone else could go--some cuz they aren't very good--others because I think we have young players who should take their spots.
-
We have a ton of players out of contract next year. Here is the list according to over the cap. 1. H. Reddick (OLB) 11. F. Luvu (LB) 21. P. Walker (QB) 2. S. Gilmore (CB) 12. J. Stanford (LB) 22. M. Haynes (OLB/DE) 3. M. Paradis (C) 13. R. Melvin (CB) 23. J. Carter, Jr. (LB) 4. C. Newton (QB) 14. Z. Gonzalez (K) 24. M. Panasiuk (DT) 5. D. Jones (DT) 15. A. Abdullah (RB/KR) 25. G. Ricci (TE/FB) 6. J. Burris (S) 16. Alex Erickson (WR/PR) 26. A. Parker (WR) 7. T. Scott (OL) 17. Lachlan Edwards (P) 27. F. Herron (DT/DE) 8. J. Jansen (LS) 18. S. Chandler (S) 28. R. Bonnafon (RB) 9. D. Jackson (CB) 19. B. Zylstra (WR) 10. J. Miller (RG) 20. I. Thomas (TE) I feel that very few of these guys should be brought back and I worry we won't have the cap space to pay the ones on the list we should bring back. Who should we bring back if possible...Which of the guys would you make a priority.

Brady Christensen scores highest ratings of the season at LT again.
Michael G replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
Brady C may have T-Rex Arms, but he's still a T-Rex. He has good feet. He just needs good coaching, a little more strength training and more reps. -
I actually remember him being critical of some of Sam's play and decisions earlier in the year...It seems so long ago. There are a lot of things about Rhule and his performance that I (and most Huddlers) do not like. That said the way he "throws players under the bus" is one thing that doesn't bother me as much. When he says "He should have caught that...or so-and-so missed the block or didn't slide.. or the QB can't make that throw." I'm cool with it. He did it to Teddy and others last year. He has criticized multiple players publicly this year. I'm usually thinking something similar about those occurrences. I just wish he'd and the coaches would do more to help the players execute better. Its so obvious that the scheme is a big part of the problem. Its tough for the players to compete with opponents who have us figured out by the second series.
