We may have some work to do with Special Teams. Zane G. and Lachlan Edwards are both FAs. We do have Liram H. (our most recent kicker) under contract for next year but I'm not sure he showed enough. Id expect another kicking competition especially if we cant convince Zane G. to return. Edwards was decent as a punter here and there but I'm not sure we won't look elsewhere especially with a new coordinator coming in. Our primary PR and KR are FAs (Erickson and Ameer A.) So there's a lot TBD But at least we have a long snapper if JJ calls it quits

For all the Brady Christensen fans....
Michael G replied to kungfoodude's topic in Carolina Panthers
Our cap situation would dictate the either BC is our LT next year, or we are drafting one. Cameron Erving will probably still be on the team (Counting 6.5 mil towards or cap with over 4 mil in dead cap if he is cut). They may try to move him to Guard. Daley and Jordan are under contract but could be cut without adding much to the dead cap (wouldn't save a ton either as they are both due under 1 mil each). T. Scott, John Miller and Paradis are all FAs. Elflein (counting over 7 mil towards our cap next season) and Deonte Brown are both still under contract. It will be interesting to see how the line shakes out. Besides our QB issue the OL will be the hottest topic this offseason most likely. -

Maybe. Houston seems to be trying to keep most of the staff together. It will be interesting what the new coach says about that (could lead to an internal hire). Who knows? -
You could be right on the money. It will largely depend on what changes are made to the OL as far as players and scheme with the New OC coming in and offseason roster turnover.

You are right I think mostly. I think they have similar strengths and weaknesses. Jones had quality players and coaches around him at Bama even though he played at higher level. Jones made good decisions and had enough talent (just not the high ceiling of some others in his class). Pickett I think fits that mold this year.

really...yeah me too!

He (Pickett) is probably the best QB prospect right now if you want someone to come in and play right away. He gets through his progressions, makes pretty good decisions, and has decent wheels. He made some good throws, though his arm talent may not great. He reminds me of Mac Jones TBH.

I wonder who was scripting the first 10 or so plays for our offense near the end of the year (Nixon?). That's one thing we should keep...after the first series though definitely switch it up.
-
Yep. He took a big leap from a Highschool OC to Small College WR coach to Central Michigan OC to the NFL. Rhule will probably bring him in the coach the OL.
-
I agree with this. I was always amazed at how our schemes and playcalls never really tried to hide the OL issues. Rarely did we plan a moving pocket. Our protections never seemed to change. No real Big formations to add extra blockers who would disengage for hot routes. No TE or Motion whams.....nothing

'20 Cam vs. '21 Garoppolo (and '19) (+ a Darnold tidbit)

If the Question is only Cam or only Jimmy G? Then Cam all Day. I do not want to give up more draft capital. -

Michael G replied to Dory's topic in Carolina Panthers
Cam was the Franchise guy here. He is no longer playing at that level (whatever the reasons). Can he return to form? Maybe but probably not here. If I had to choose between Cam and Darnold. Cam all day. IF I have other options...maybe I would try a rookie or another veteran to push out Darnold. Cam is not the passer he once ways IMO. Stats seem to back that up (besides Olsen who did he have to throw to in 2015 anyway). If we bring him in as a starting QB and battering ram then he will likely not last the season (although maybe he'd take some licks off of CMC and vice-versa). IMO We should let Cam go and wish him success somewhere else (hopefully not in the NFC South). -
I've seen a lot of the Good, the Bad and the Ugly with Howell. I'm a UNC fan but I didn't fall in love with Howell. I think the analysis of his faults at risk/reward analysis are dead on (except I think he makes too many mistakes when passing too). He is a great competitor and i like that a lot. I would not be upset if we bring him in somehow with a late 1st round pick, but not at the expense of beefing up the OL in a BPA scenario.

Runs to burns side also had more success because of Chinn playing out of the box more as a true safety. Which edge would you rather attack Fox or YGM backed by Reddick and maybe Shaq. Or Burns backed by a Nickel like Hartsfield or Bouye.
-
I agree with this. I also think how is is used in Snow's scheme sometimes exacerbates his troubles setting the edge. Because of his versatility he is asked to drop back too often, as opposed to rushing or setting the edge depending on the play call. It makes it hard to really improve in something if you aren't asked to do it as much.

Trading Back-What could we get for the #6 pick? Is it worth it?
Michael G replied to Michael G's topic in Carolina Panthers
I think its hard to really predict the moves teams may make until FA has started. Our use of pick 6 will probably largely be determined by several factors (ie- How do the coaches feel about Brady C? Did they acquire any Interior OL players that could start? Were they (Macadoo) blown away by any of the QBs at their Prodays? Did thye bring in or trade for a QB prior to the draft?) IMO Fit will trade back unless we get draft capital by trading an established player. Last year he talked about a "cutoff" point that was just outside the top 10. I think he'll try to trade back to just inside that if possible and still land a premium player (based on their evaluations). Is there any trade back option worth it to give up a Pickett, Neal, or Ekwonu (and maybe Cross)? -
So I've heard several pundits and huddlers mention the possibility of trading back to add draft capital. There are several teams who may or may not be in the market for a QB depending on how the FA-QB Carousel unfolds. these teams include; 1. Denver (Currently projected to Pick at #9) 2. WFT ( Currently projected to Pick at #11) 3. Minnesota (Currently projected to Pick at #12) if they unload Cousins 4. Cleveland (Currently projected to Pick at #13) if they unload Baker M. 5. NO (Currently projected to Pick at #18) 6. Pittsburg (Currently projected to Pick at #20) Ben's Gone--Pickett played at U of Pittsburg 7. Las Vegas (Currently projected to Pick at #22) If they unload D. Carr 8. GB (Currently projected to Pick at #28) If Rodgers leaves or is traded and Love isn't their answer 9. Miami (Currently projected to Pick at #30) if new coach wants a change from Tua Seattle could also be in the Market depending on whether or not Wilson is traded but they do not have a #1 pick this year. their first pick is projected at #41 (2nd Round) How far back would you be willing to trade? Who could want the #6 pick? What would they give us for it? Would it be worth it? Why or Why not?

Our Roster -- Players We Feel Good About (Part 2 - Defense)**
Michael G replied to SetfreexX's topic in Carolina Panthers
I agree completely. They do not have the piece right not that will consistently eat up double teams in the mIddle (unless Brown can become that guy). Nixon is doubtful to be that guy either. When any of our tackles are double teamed on running downs they can be moved out of the way too easily. This can be nulified somewhat if the other guy (not being doubled) is winning his reps consistently (we need more of that too). -

Fox and YGM as your standard DE's in even front's is also a possibility that would bolster run defense. That might cut Burns out of the equation if Reddick stays. A lot of the runs were to Burns' side and some successful screens. They have options. I just hope they are able to use the ones they are able to hold onto and acquire. -
Our Roster -- Players We Feel Good About (Part 2 - Defense)**
Michael G replied to SetfreexX's topic in Carolina Panthers
The front seven will be very interesting this offseason. We need a true Mike to pair with Shaq (Carter isn't it). I think we will continue to play more of a nickel than a base defense. Hartsfield or Bouye will most likely be that Nickel. Chinn may also get some looks there as the Big Nickel if we get some help at Safety (which we need at least one more piece even if Robinson can contribute more regularly) I think our use of odd and even fronts will largely be determined by whether or not Reddick can be brought back. I hope so. We should continue to see Gross-Matos play the end in most even fronts and kick inside on 3rd down or odd fronts. I think Daquan Jones will be let go. Nixon, Roy, or Hoskins will probably compete to start as the 2nd DT in even fronts. I can see Nixon, Brown, and Gross-Matos being the lineup when in odd fronts. Burns (if he isn't traded away) will continue to play end or stand up edge(olb) depending on the front. Our corners are definitely a strength but I worry they are not as strong as some suggest. I like Horn to start but I'm not sure Henderson, Taylor, or Pride are good enough to be the #2. Hopefully one of those guys continue to improve in the offseason (Henderson hasn't had one with Snow and this scheme). I doubt Gilmore will take a hometown discount and would not want to pay DJ to come back. To Summarize we have a lot of good pieces, but can we add to them and use them in a way that promotes success. We have to figure out how to set edges better and how to apply pressure against good OL's. The Reddick-Burns combo needs more push from the inside. -
