IMO -If at any point in the draft a QB is close to the BPA- we snag him (not in the first). Otherwise we build the team's other positions. I do not favor any trade unless we are really getting a possible deal (ie-6th rounder for Minshew). We should sign a FA Vet just in case to compete with Darnold (little to no guaranteed money) and cut them if necessary (If they can't beat Darnold or any rookie QB we might draft). If whoever we bring in is better than Darnold (you'd think they'd be) then maybe we have a decent backup option if we can bring in a Franchise guy in 2023.

IMO this is a good signing I'm hoping for a RB committee. A big back like freeman could get 10 12 carries a game- CMC 7 or 8, and a 3rd back (Hubbard/Abdullah/someone else) could pickup a few as well. CMC could be used enough to continue to be and effective decoy. Stays in to pass pro. some and catches 8-12 balls a game out of slot and the backfield.

Haynes basically plays stand up edge/OLB in odd fronts. He won't really be used like Fox (That more YGM's role). I see him replacing Luvu on passing downs as a rotational piece. We will see how much he plays depending on who else we can bring in and if we trade away any other players (ie-Burns). Its a good signing IMO.

Panthers sign S Xavier Woods (3 years, 15.75m)
Michael G replied to SgtJoo's topic in Carolina Panthers
Woods is definitely more of a strong safety. We overpaid slightly but probably had to to get him to come here. He's a upgrade on Burris, but probably a little out of position if he's expected to play traditional FS. An interesting move and possibly a very good one depending on how he is used. -
Next Man Up!...Are the Answers Already on the Roster?
Michael G replied to Michael G's topic in Carolina Panthers
I like how Robinson has progressed, but I really think he will take Burris' spot if he's given a chance. He doesn't have Chinn's range. They paid Thomas like he's gonna start so I'm wondering how they see Tremble. Maybe they'll feature more 2 TE sets.... I like Hartsfield at Nickel too...he's like a mini linebacker who really competes (even though he makes some mistakes). For a young undrafted player he show a lot of potential -
Next Man Up!...Are the Answers Already on the Roster?

For a retired guy he played ok...But is not he answer I agree. He was no worse than Elflein. -
The Panthers Have a lot of holes to fill. We will probably see changes to the starting lineup at LB, MLB, Corner, Safety, OL, DL, and oh yeah QB Are their any young, previously rotational players or backups on the team who you can see stepping into a starting role based on their play last season (IE- Luvu starting at Edge/OLB in place of Reddick) What about Henderson, Robinson, heck even Tecklenburg? Who do you expect to step up this year if anyone?

Even if Watson didn't have the apparent issues with lawsuits and character, I'm not sure if acquiring him would put us over the top- especially when we'd hade to give up so much. The Texans apparently expect some quality players on rookie deals and 3 #1 picks. Deshaun Watson has a cap hit of 40+ m this coming season (which he's probably worth). How the heck would we put a team around him, especially with the clowns we have running things right now? Our guys probably wouldn't even get them to take Darnold as part of the trade. We missed on Wilson already this offseason, and Stafford last year. I am really afraid of the package Tepper would sign off on in order to bring in Watson.

I think CMC can still be useful. We should make him our Deebo Samuel and use him in a similar fashion. He should be our slot receiver/ change up (sometimes 3rd down) back. He has always made a great decoy and is a real asset in pass pro. I think we need to bring in a bigger downhill back to pound the rock with. Maybe Hubbard can get into the rotation some (I wasn't really impressed with him, but I am giving him the benefit of the doubt based on what he was working with). I think we should use 3 backs. JMO

Hell at this point I'd be willing to call Vinny T, to see if he was up to working out ....
-
Nothing hurt by bringing the guy in and talking to him. Let him workout if he wants...see if there's anything there. I don't think I'd pay him what he'd want. The guy could have worked out for a couple of teams and probably would have been signed if he was willing to take a cheap deal a couple of years back. I think he could be worth a prove it deal.

It is true that we are kind of a mess and have been for awhile. For most guys we will not be option #1. But we are an option and most guys will listen to our offers. If the player has some sort of connection here (a coach, or a player they have ties with) then we have a shot. That or we offer them above their expected pay grade.

Packers may listen to talks for Jordan Love now if anyone's interested.....

Unfortunately that is true.. its a little more complicated than that I think. I do think because of our history of losing and the questionable moves made by our coaches and FO in recent years, we are not on many FA's wish lists. But money talks. I think maybe the reason we paid Thomas so much is that he wouldn't stay for what he was worth. (We should have let him walk) He got the "we suck" bump to his contract. Other FA's may be brought in that way but its unsustainable. We really have to get the draft right and make good trades and pick up FA's that aren't on other teams radars or that have relationships with coaches or players here that might make us more of a feasible option. Hopefully Fit and the FO can get some of these things done right. I will DIE if we bring back J. Carter Jr. back on a mid-tier level starter contract!

Because that's what we do. It is the way.

Sorry I missed it...I was kind of worried too after the way they paid Thomas.

https://www.derp/2022/3/9/22968826/panthers-re-sign-kicker-zane-gonzalez Fansided reports 2 years for 4.5 mil. That's actually acceptable based on his production last year IMO. Makes him 18th highest paid kicker or thereabouts...
-
Maybe...wouldn't one restructure do this? I'm no cap genius, but IMO there are also cuts and trades that we could look to that might free up some room. I guess I'm just worried that Rhule is trying to get $ to afford to make a big trade or FA signing to help save his butt.
-
So far we have restructured Moton and Thompson to free up money for this year, but we will have to pay those guys "huge stacks" over the next couple of years. My question is Why? - Are we freeing up space to cover the costs of an elite or at least expensive QB? (Cousins? Wilson? Rodgers? Watson?) - Does it mean we are going to go after a FA tackle like Armstead? and then draft a signal caller? I'd think it'd be my second proposal because otherwise our Cap will be difficult to manage for the next coaches if/when this coming year results in another losing season. What does everything think about the restructures and possible goals they would indicate. Debate Away!

Chinn had a lot of success as the big nickel in year 1 and i like him in that role, but last year he was the best option we had on the back end. I hope we bring in a true FS to help us fill that role and that would allow Chinn to truly line up anywhere on our defense. He would be a terror I think.

Liberty QB Malik Willis met with the Panthers
Michael G replied to MechaZain's topic in Carolina Panthers
I basically agree- I don't see the Josh Allen comparisons. I agree he has upside but not as much as folks seem to say. His athletic profile seems to be his biggest selling point but when I watched his tape I saw him get run down from behind on numerous occasions. It happens, I get it, but If i'm an elite runner that plays at liberty- I should be head and shoulders above the rest if I'm a legit NFL talent. Just MO. He does have a legit NFL Arm, but just needs to be more consistently accurate. IMO he's like a poor-man's Kyler Murry
