Panthers fall in new ESPN Power Rankings
CarolinaLivin replied to CarolinaLivin's topic in Carolina Panthers
A lot of people around the NFL aren't even sure if we truly upgraded at QB. I believe this is the main reason. Most of our pickups are overshadowed by the trade for Sam and the trade to rid ourselves of Teddy. Stats wise we traded an average QB that probably won't get any better for a QB that just hasn't seemed to make the transition to the NFL still making the same mistakes he made in college. -

Panthers fall in new ESPN Power Rankings

Well nobody will put us and higher than say 20th. Mainly due to Sam Darnold. Everyone will agree that we have an upgraded defense that has a high chance of being top 10 this year. We have a top 10 receiving room and a top 3 (arguably #1) RB in the league. OL has been slightly upgraded and was 18th last season. -
I say Stevens makes the team, Darnold has a friendly "show us you aren't a bust" 2yrs (maybe 1yr in disguise like the 3yr teddy contract we were supposed to see through), and PJ Walker is on the hot seat. I say PJ is replaced as soon as next season if QB1 isn't still a priority. But I doubt QB2 will be high on the priority list. Depends on how we spend our money next season. I believe we will have one of the highest cap's next off-season.

Many believe the Carolina Panthers were one of the biggest winners from the 2021 NFL Draft, myself included. New GM Scott Fitterer did a tremendous job of letting the board fall to him, not reaching for players, and trading back multiple times. Carolina filled a huge need at corner by selecting South Carolina's Jaycee Horn 8th overall, drafted LSU WR Terrace Marshall Jr. to replace Curtis Samuel, took BYU left tackle Brady Christensen to give Sam Darnold more protection, and drafted Oklahoma State running back Chuba Hubbard in the 4th round - a prospect that was considered a day two pick just a year ago. Despite having a solid draft class, ESPN dropped the Panthers from No. 23 to No. 25 in their most recent power rankings with the Chicago Bears and Atlanta Falcons both jumping ahead of them. I understand having the youngest team in the NFL will keep the Panthers toward the bottom of these lists but I'm not sold on the idea that they somehow got worse following the draft. They made some key additions at areas of need and established depth in the back end of the draft which is something they did not have a year ago. With all the talent this team has on both sides of the ball, I would slate them somewhere between 20-23 and not a spot lower. https://www.si.com/nfl/panthers/gm-report/espn-releases-post-draft-power-rankings

This as well, but Hill offers more than what you would normally expect from a QB3 position.
-
I don't think people understand that this guy isn't taysom hill. Same size but much lesser talent.

Well a lot of the decisions made this year (Plus the 3yr Teddy deal turned 1yr rental) will have an affect on whether or not Matt Rhule finishes that huge contract he signed. I'd say he will be fine as long as he doesn't turn into a guy with the label of not being to figure out the QB position or continuing to push positions of need (that have been considered a need for longer than just 1, 2 years) off to the next year and still not properly addressing. I know this thread isn't about that, but just saying. Also not saying that Matt is on the hot seat or anything by any means.

Our QB room is terrible. It is built off hopes and dreams. Not trolling, lol I hope Darnold is what our staff believes he can be in Carolina. As for the other guys.... But one could argue we had to sacrifice for the greater good of the roster.
-
it is a gamble lol

I just bought tickets to Jets @ Panthers Week 1... I think that game will play a big part on whether or not I make my purchase.
-
I'm sure you would make a fortune off this bet on draftkings if it happened lol that's how unrealistic it is. People are saying around 250 for a reason.
-
Honestly, him saying this hurts his rep more than ours. BUTTT, if we still have red zone and 2 minute problems this year... maybe it's something truly worth looking into.

We'll find out in an off-season interview after we relieve ian of his TE duties

I just hope that in the event that Sam works, they don't think they can just fix anyone.

Draft Analysis: "A massive value-destroying error"?
CarolinaLivin replied to PanthersATL's topic in Carolina Panthers
I'm not mad at Teddy though. Us signing Teddy allowed us to draft the way we wanted to (all defense) and so did the Sam signing this year. This team is willing to take a chance on QB in order to build the rest of the roster. Most won't and don't agree with that, but I actually like that way of building a roster. -

If you need a QB you get your guy whether that's FA or draft. You KEEP your QB if he either shows either "Right Now Talent" or "Potential" -

Better known as the Clausen effect -
Adjusted Interceptions: What it Means The adjusted interception metric examines elements such as when a potential pick is dropped by a defender or broken up by a receiver, as well as situations in which a QB throws a pick because of a Hail-Mary attempt or a desperation throw in the final seconds of a game. There are a couple of situations that adjusted interceptions don't account for, such as when a defender makes a great play on a ball (though that can be subjective) and when a receiver doesn't run a proper route (but that requires knowing the play call and where the receiver was supposed to go). Bridgewater had 11 interceptions but had seven potential picks that were dropped or broken up, and none came in a late-game situation. In other words, Bridgewater wasn't as careful with the ball as it appears at first glance. https://www.si.com/nfl/broncos/news/broncos-drew-lock-outshined-teddy-bridgewater-key-interceptions

I think this is a perfect learning experience for how we need to treat Sam or any talent that has underperformed and we ultimately put trust/belief in. Edit: I don't specifically mean this situation. I mean the whole Teddy Project. -

Also for Rhule. I don't think he is struggling or anything. But there are things im seeing in the media that makes me question him. Some coaches are just better suited for the college level. Only time will tell.
