  1. So you think they’ll “sink” a second round pick that they didn’t have to trade before the guy they traded for ever takes a snap for the team? It’s not happening. Get over it. Darnold is Carolina’s QB for better or for worse for at least one, and likely two, years.
  2. lol, you also don't waste top 10 picks on backups. Yeah, maybe 8 teams checked in initially, but every single one of those teams specifically mentioned in that article have secured a QB for this season. Carolina was the only team left pursuing him because the music had stopped playing, and Carolina was the only guy without a QB that wasn't content to wait until the draft. They aren't taking a QB at 8. It isn't happening. Just stop it. If they were willing to take a chance on one of these QBs, then they would have waited to find a QB solution. It's really that simple. It would be awful from an asset allocation and team building perspective to trade for Darnold and then also draft a QB. Carolina would have been infinitely better off just holding Teddy for another year if that was the plan.
  3. The Panthers were supposedly the only team seriously engaged with the Jets. We're supposed to believe that suddenly teams that weren't interested are going to be interested on draft night? Give me a break.
  4. They didn't give up three picks, including a second rounder, to make Darnold a contingency plan before he ever took a snap for the Panthers. Maybe you were sold on taking a QB at 8 or trading up, I don't know, but you might as well let it go. It isn't happening now. Taking a QB at this point would be idiotic when this roster has so many other needs. Fitt is saying that all options are on the table to maintain leverage in trade discussions if a QB is available at 8 and someone is interested in moving up. That's all.
  5. Why not trade for Darnold on draft night if that's the case? They aren't taking a QB, period.
  6. If they were willing to wait and see what was available at 8, then there would have been no reason to trade for Darnold in early April.
  7. If they thought Lance was going to be the "next big thing," they wouldn't have traded for Darnold.
  8. Drafting a QB in the first round now is 100% full-stop moronic. It's an idiotic idea. Put it out of your head. Maybe Fitt is dumb enough to do it, but I doubt it.
  9. It doesn't really change the fact that I think the most likely result is a competitive team that wins 8 or 9 games, but it does change the excitement level because I don't think Darnold can be much worse than Teddy, and there's a good chance he's a lot better.
  10. Former 5* recruit that was a four-year starter at Florida. Not likely to amount to anything, but the Panthers could do worse in the way of lottery tickets on the OL.
  11. Yep confirmed he sucks based on 9% of his throws last year (assuming no overlap between the two). Give me break.
  12. Nailed it. The Panthers maxed up Bridgewater in 2020. It turns out his max just isn't very good. Is Darnold's impactfully better? We're going to find out in short order.
  13. “two futures” are a second and fourth. that’s a fairly significant investment in Darnold. and they picked up his fifth-year option sight unseen. Carolina isn’t drafting a QB in the first round, and frankly it would be idiotic to do so. gotta ride Darnold for at least a year.
  14. The Panthers aren’t drafting Fields or Lance, give me a break. That would be extremely moronic based on what the Panthers just gave up.
  15. Best hope is someone like SF (assuming Jimmy is trades) or NYG that has a cheap QB and needs a quality backup might toss a 2022 5th or 6th at Carolina to make this happen. Trading down from #8 is a better route to recoup picks, particularly if one of the QBs is still on the board.
  16. If Atlanta trades this pick to Carolina, it's because either they think none of the QBs left are any good, or they have sufficiently ripped off Carolina for the pick. Better to wait a year at QB than get dragged by a division rival.
  17. Have you considered that Clemson, Alabama, BYU, NDSU, and Ohio State were dominant because they had huge advantages at QB relative to their competition, and TAMU did not?
  18. Yes, as long as Sewell proves he wants to be a football player in interviews and such. The opting out worries me on both him and Slater.
  19. Because he was a four year starter that barely got any better over the course of his college career. His potential is likely tapped out, and he wasn’t even a game-changer at the college level. He isn’t good. In general I think taking a QB in the second round is close to the dumbest thing an NFL team can do these days. With the premium placed on the position and the value of having the fifth year option on a QB, anyone who gets passed up 32 times should give you serious pause. Who’s the best 2nd round QB drafted in the last ten years or so? Derek Carr? Andy Dalton? They are fine starters, but not exactly someone you’re thrilled to give 15-20% of your total cap space once their rookie deal is up. You can’t afford to come away with non-starters in the second round, so taking a QB prospect with warts is more often than not a bad move. If you have to add a guy, take someone Day 3 that is worth a flier and has some projectable traits. You can afford for that guy to suck or only be a backup.
  20. He’s an awful QB who will get overdrafted. Day 3 player that will probably go Round 2. Hard pass.
  21. I agree it’s too toxic to touch, definitely this offseason and maybe forever. The settlement is pretty likely to be a nothingburger. Regardless of how legitimate any or all of these claims are, he’s not going to admit anything, and they’ll likely all take a confidential paycheck and move along, as is standard.
  22. And you should read them again then since you really don’t understand them. For example, both claims A and B in the first suit say “in addition to actual damages, Plaintiff seeks punitive damages, and such damages are not subject to capping.” The prayer for relief seeks damages on six separate grounds and also “exemplary damages to deter such conduct going forward.” Come on, don’t be so gullible as to believe Buzbee. They are looking for a lot more than $500 out of this.
  23. You said he’s probably have to admit guilty, might have to register as a sex offender, and would not start with a presumption of non-liability. Which one have I misunderstood? The truth is, you’re just wrong and trying to write your way out of a corner. If you don’t want Watson, fine, but no reason to spread mistruths.
