  1. Those are fair points. However, very few QB dominate for 4 years. Players need to play at that level to learn and develop their games just like Burrow did. He literally only started 1 season but it was great. What's important is that he DID learn and develop into that QB which is why in was playing on college. His final season was fantastic. There just aren't that many players who play the QB position who ever have a season like that. QB is different than other positions that way. Most never "get" it at any level but when drafting a QB you have to choose the ones who did even if it was their last season. SF drafted a QB with pick 3 with only 1 great season and at a low level of competition. Most people around here loved that player including myself but at 3? Same could be said about Wilson at 2. Teams do it all the time so imo to say that Pickett is somehow a bad pick because of that is not consistent with past drafts. Last season, the QB with the second best career was picked 5th among QBs. No one wanted him. For me, Pickett demonstrated that he could play against top college talent and dominate it. That's all anyone can ask for in a QB being considered for their first pick. To get a guy with that kind of season coupled with his excellent post season workouts with the 6th pick should have this base jumping up and down with excitement instead of looking for reasons to hate it. But that's just the way I see it. Perhaps I'm wrong but I really don't understand why he's being treated so differently than most other QBs in every other draft process.
  2. In what other year would a QB with over 4,500 total yards, 47 total tds, and only 7 int be considered a 2nd round QB??? That makes zero sense to me and to suggest that Willis, who only did half of that at Liberty and not in the ACC, is somehow the better choice is just beyond ridiculous for me. You guys really need to explain how you could justify that opinion to me or anyone else. Pickett should be considered a top 10 QB in any draft over the last 5 years.
  3. I have recently come out in support of Panthers drafting the QB with our 1st pick whether it's at 6 or a little lower but now I'm having second thoughts about this. Were my own evaluations so wrong and uninformed or was I simply biased? I don't know for sure. Perhaps you all can explain to me why I am so off in my evaluation process. Here are just a few examples of evaluations about the young QB. It wasn't hard for me to find them. They are literally the first ones I found. I won't crowd the post with the full evaluations but I will post parts just to make their sentiments abundantly clear. "It is always a quarterback. There is always (at least) one quarterback in every draft gets way over-drafted because of the immense value of the quarterback position." "was an effective, long-term starter who showed talent and ability in the passing game. He also tested well and interviewed well at the NFL combine." "who is being pushed up draft boards due to various degrees of wishful thinking and ignorance." "While it is admirable he has the patience and maturity to go through all of his reads, he is not very fast about it sometimes and has benefited from playing against relatively mediocre defenses" "But, he’s almost certainly going to get drafted by a top-10 team, and that spells trouble for the young quarterback and the team that drafts him." Wow, that's some harsh stuff. Obviously, he's not worthy of a top 10 pick and likely will be nothing but a career back up at best. Accept that's not really talking about Kenny Pickett but ......Justin Herbert. Let's have a look at stats. KP- 67%, 4,319 yds, 42 tds, 7 int, Run- 233yds, 5 tds JH- 63.9%, 3,471 yds, 32 tds, 5 int, Run- 50 yds, 4 tds As we can see, they are very similar with a slight advantage to KP. I bring this up because I think they are similar. Both are 4 year starters. Both are accurate and confident passers. JH has a stronger arm likely and KP is a better runner. Pickett also compares well statistically with Burrow. KP- 67%, 4,319 yds, 42 tds, 7 int, Run- 233 yds, 5 tds JB- 70.4%, 4,611 yds, 47 yds, 19 int, Run- 118 yds, 2 tds That's comparing him to one of the best college passing seasons ever!!! Look how close that is. I honestly don't see why he isn't being hyped up much more than he is. I think it's because the narrative about this class has been that it's a weak class for 2 years now. This class was evaluated as weak last year and that has hung over it all this season and I think it's affecting opinions. He's been a leader since his first career start when he lead Pitt to an upset victory over Miami. He had an amazing final season which compares with the likes of the 2 rising stars for the Chargers and Bengals. I'm not guaranteeing results like that but by the stats he looks like he deserves the opportunity. He can battle Sam pre-season and if he needs a little time we can give it to him like Malhomes and Herbert was suppose to but the starter got injured and the rest is history. We should be super excited that we may have a chance to draft this kid and with the 6th pick!!! I know I am!!! Now, I know this doesn't mean he will or won't succeed. But QBs like him? They usually do. He has everything you should look for in a young QB. He's a leader, players like him, lots of experience at high level, confident not cocky, accuracy, elusive, good arm and awareness. This is our chance to take the shot and this is the kid to take it on. Draft Kenny Pickett.
  4. I agree with you that we should draft a QB instead however I'm not so sure about we should have done it last year. The jury is still out as it's just been one season but that class, while being hyped existentially, it didn't perform very well in season 1.
  5. CRUSH Kenny Pickett. I read above that he needs a dome but he played 4 years outdoors in Pittsburg without any problems. If he could play there then I don't think Carolina should be a problem. Everything I've seen, heard, or watched about him looks good to me. I know everyone says this class is bad but I'd honestly rank him as the 2nd or 3rd best QB in LAST season's class.
  6. I certainly hope that you're right. I personally don't believe this rumor is any different than the last 10-15 saying the same thing but just wanted to make sure my position on the issue, at this time, is out there since I do openly support Rhule on most things.
  7. I'm a fan of Rhule, obviously, and I haven't given up on him and the Panthers yet. I'm willing to give him all the excuses about covid and all the BS he's had to deal with as a new NFL coach in that situation coupled with the horrible state the team was in when he arrived etc. But I will admit, right here, right now, that I will be deeply disappointed if we trade our future away for Watson right now. Not even counting judging Watson based on these accusations but even from the football perspective of it. This move makes zero sense to me. Signing a player that will take away our cap space and not allowing us this opportunity to add some decent FAs plus our future first round picks? I just can't believe Rhule would go that route. Then adding to it the character concerns when Rhule is always speaking about culture? Honestly, that move would remove most of the reasons I'm willing to take the abuse I've sometimes received for defending him. I may have unpopular opinions and some of you may not like me but I do strongly believe in the principles that Rhule expresses which is why I like him. This would contradict all of that imo and I'd lose respect for him and I'd have to change not only my tune but my name. I just can't believe this is true. This story comes out every 3 months or so and nothing happens so I'm hoping this is just journalistic smoke and mirrors like usual. (I added paragraphs this time free of charge)
  8. True but how did that work out for them? It's early it's true but the first couldn't beat out an injured Garrapolo and the second was worse than Dalton. Maybe they will be great but so far they haven't exactly proven the "experts" to be so great at judging QBs but better suited at hyping stories and players for clicks. I don't really see it as proof that no QB in this class will be good or not. The QB who had the best season was supposed to be the one who wasn't really an NFL caliber QB to many. Heck, the Texans drafted the QB with the second best season from last year's class in the 3rd round I believe.
  9. Dude, I thank the football gods weekly that you take the time to post here. Now I thank you for making sense and trying to patiently, put things into a reasonable perspective and take down the hyperbole that is unfortunately so common place. You're my fav poster hands down. Keep Pounding Casillas!!!
  10. Yeah, sorry about that. I'm eating while writing and forgot to make paragraphs.
  11. Sorry, I forgot what a powerhouse Liberty QBs are. My bad. They are even better than the SDS QBs. Just ask the 49ers. C'mon man. Not sure what 10 years you're referring too but I'm sure it makes sense to you.
  12. Washington Commanders general manager Martin Mayhew spoke at 2022 NFL Combine on Wednesday and the question everybody wants to know was asked. Who will be the Commanders next franchise quarterback? "We are looking to upgrade that position and we're looking at every angle that's possible," Mayhew said. Martin Mayhew looks a lot like our old GM.
  13. I'm going to break with the house rules around here as I don't sit at the "cool" fans table anyway. This is GREAT news for us. The 2 teams most desperate for a QB who'd might want to jump us in the draft are out of the QB hunt now. Now I know that around this point I'm supposed to say that this QB class sucks, Rhule sucks, Fitts sucks, Tepper sucks, Panthers suck etc. but I won't because I'm a rebel like that. I see this as great news for us because now we should easily be able to get the best QB in this years' class, Kenny Picket, at pick 6!!! I never expected we would be able to draft a 4 year starter who showed improvement each an every season, played in the ACC, has a good arm, good mechanics, can make all the throws except the 65 yard bomb but his 50-55 yard passes are beautiful. He is a leader with a great character and he has a quiet swagger that reminds me of Hebert. In fact, he's being brushed off by many in much the same way Herbert was. Herbert had much of the same skills and college career but people always found some way to blow him off as not really that good same as they are doing with Pickett. I'm not sure why but it's okay with me as I expect us to get the steal of the draft. This is also a perfect situation for Kenny to come too. He can sit behind Darnold early in the season and likely have the opportunity to take his place during the season and rally the team behind their new QB of the future. I expect us to take advantage of finally having an almost normal pre season, actual cap space to improve our OL with FAs that are actually available this season and to add a few new pieces in the draft. I know we don't have the picks now but I'm expecting us to make a few trades to get a couple of picks and free more cap space. I like the changes we've made to our staff as they all look like improvements to me with successful NFL experience. We also have a lot of young players who I expect most will have improved and a very good defense that hopefully we can make better with a couple of moves on that side as well. All and all, I'm feeling optimistic about next season. This draft is quite deep at positions of need for us so if we can pull ofF some trades we should be able to help ourselves there. Keep Pounding!!! Stop Crying!!! Now fling the Poo at me. It's ok. I'll wear it proudly. Through the good times and the bad, Panthers fan for life. PANTHERS RHULE!!!
  14. The problem is that Wentz ALWAYS gets hurt. Has he ever played a full season? I would have went with Trubisky over Wentz personally. I also don't understand why WFT is acting like they are just a QB away from greatness. I don't see it.
  15. Well, they can't exactly come out and say that although he is a great athlete with a strong arm, the lack of experience against decent competition and overall inaccuracy means that he should be considered as a late 1st round prospect for a team with a veteran already in place to give him time to learn the pro game before starting as they'd be accused of being something terrible. I absolutely do not believe for a minute that they intend to draft Willis at 6. The media do this every season now. They over hype a super athletic QB with great potential but really raw skills. Some team will get caught up by it for sure like the 49ers did last season and we saw that they reached badly. Carolina passed on Fields at 8 last season and he was a better option at this point than Willis is. I expect us to draft Pickett personally as he is the most experienced and checks all the boxes. The only real negative about him is his hands. I'm not sure if Rhule has the same issue with that as he does with arms' length but that would be the only way I'd see us passing on him at 6 if he's there.
  16. Jonathan M Alexander @jonmalexander · 18h Replying to @jonmalexander The Panthers are saving $5 million in cap space from Thompson's deal, per a league source.
  17. After watching his game tape from 20 and 21 plus his pro day as well as his interviews I've come to the conclusion that if the Panthers do take a QB in Rnd 1 it should be Pickett. I know this year is considered a bad year for a QB but that doesn't mean there isn't one there and from what I've seen Kenny is the one with the most potential to be that guy.
  18. Why? I don't want us to draft Picket at 6 either but he looks like a decent prospect and less likely to have a short career due to injury because he's a QB and not a QB/RB type. Cam was the biggest and best of that style of QB and even he had a short career because of it.
  19. Yes but at least in Europe WC is an abbreviation for toilette
  20. I thought we were talking about Tepper? But ok, I can talk about Rhule too. He may or may not be clueless. If his objectives are as I stated earlier then he's doing exactly what he's supposed to do and he's building a roster of young talent and trying to build a culture. I believe his 1st objective is this. Tepper said he didn't want a team that was good one year and bad the next like we used to be. He wanted a team with sustained success like the Steelers. He doesn't want someone to come in and try to put a team together to win a season like Tampa or LAR have done. He wants to build a team from the ground up in a way that once they have a good team, they will be able to maintain the quality of that team every season and won't have to break the team up after 1 good season because you're over the cap. Like in Philly or the Ravens after the SB. If that's true and my 2 year theory is correct then he's on plan. Defense is solid could use some tweeks but solid. Now the offense. There are some pieces there but we must get the line set up but Rhule said that so he has that clue. If they can fix the OL then that will leave the last main focus and that's the QB. I admit, I'm not thrilled rolling with Darnold again either but I don't see many alternatives at the moment. But first, the OL and let Darnold have his last shot and if he fails next draft go hard for a QB. Which I expect they will unless finally Darnold learns how to play. As with Tepper, I think of Rhule. If Tepper has the long plan and then Rhule may be doing what Tepper wants. He's rebuilding the team which is what he was brought in to do. The focus is on the rebuild over just wins for now. Try to win as many as you can but focus on the rebuild and the wins will come.
