Polian just said what I've been saying for the last month. Forget the media narratives and the idea of only one good season, low or high ceilings, superstar potential etc. Those are only narratives. You must look at what they have done and what they can do. Good QBs have certain qualities that make them good. Pickett has those qualities. Put him in the right system and surround him with the right players and he has the qualities and the "IT" factor to be successful in the NFL. He is absolutely, hands down best prospect in this draft. It also doesn't matter if this is a weak class or not. It's about the individual player and Pickett has what it takes to be a good NFL QB and especially with Carolina. Our new system should be perfect for him and we have the weapons' already in place. If our new OL is an improvement too, then we could have a decent offense that could become great within his rookie 5 year period. I didn't come into this draft season with a QB in mind as I don't follow college football and only watch QB tape when the off season starts and I went from the idea of drafting an LT to drafting Pickett only because of what I saw him do when I watched him play and learned about McAdoo and his system. If we can draft him then we all should be ecstatic. No player is 100% a certainty and especially QBs but Pickett is definitely a good fit for us to take our shot on finally. I believe he can be our franchise guy and I've never said that before about any QB we had a possibility of drafting.

I keep expecting teams or even the NFL to make rules about online postings from players. It's always been a problem but now it's getting ridiculous. Players are using it to negotiate, or pressure GMs, or just interfere with team decisions or other players' possibilities. I don't think it's professional or correct. If I criticize my company, boss or colleagues online I'll get fired. Why should athletes be different?

1st in cap space but the credit cards are maxed......why?
Panthers Rhule replied to AU-panther's topic in Carolina Panthers
I'm not a contract or cap expert for sure and will gladly listen to those who know more about that then I but I have found this explanation. Not all contract restructures are bad or signal that the team is in trouble in the future. Considering that the NFL allows teams to carry over cap space year-to-year, the cap space saved in 2020 can carry over and help in 2021, if the extra space isn't used. If the team plans accordingly, restructuring is an extremely useful tool to create meaningful cap space. What I cant find is does this mean that we can trade them in the final, more expensive years of the contract that have less dead cap penalties in their contracts and essentially pass the added future cost of the move on to the team who trades for them or not. Like CMC for example. Without going into precise details of his contact, if the penalty of trading him is less in 2023, we could restructure for this season, trade him next season and therefor the money that we saved this season would be passed on to his new team and paid by them instead of us. Is that correct? What I mean is if we are supposed to pay him 20 mil both seasons but restructure and only pay 15m this season with the cost next season being to pay 25m but instead trade him and the new team pays the 25m instead of us and we save paying 5m of his total contract on our cap. If that's true then our restructures would save of cap space this season and cost us less in overall. meaning that we may be considering trading away our more expensive vets before their last season of their contracts and saving the cap money. -
ELLIS L. WILLIAMS Of the OBSERVER on Jimmy G
Panthers Rhule replied to raleigh-panther's topic in Carolina Panthers
To me, this seems like just another random article talking about what may be possible based on random speculations supposedly from some unknown source whom we are supposed to accept as someone who may or may not have real knowledge about a player's abilities or a coach's system and a team's thought process. Presumably, based on how I interpreted the vague wording, this unknown person doesn't work with SF or Carolina, hasn't worked with Jimmy G nor McAdoo, and yet this is supposed to be taken seriously. This is my problem with "journalism" today. It's become another form of entertainment much like "reality t.v." It began in the real world and has also taken over sports and everything else. Random ideas, opinions, speculations and sometimes even imagination is presented to us a real news to get attention, sell advertising, and sometimes even to influence our perceptions of reality by creating a "group think" narrative based on an ideological agenda. The words are always carefully chosen to not be specific so they cannot be directly challenged. Anonymous sources with an important title to give it credibility, subtle use of words expressing possibility such a may, maybe, could, etc. for legal and defensive reasons, and general repetition of such proclamations made repeatedly by multiple sources using the same language to create a sense of fact. If people read or hear the same idea or story repeated often enough as "news" or "accepted truth" then the majority of people will accept it as fact and ignore the words expressing possibility even though it was never presented to them as fact but only as rumor or an opinion. It's a psychological mind trick. You don't have to prove something to be true, you just have to repeat it often enough that people think it must be true. This is how the "group think" opinions are created and belived and why you usually hear people expressing the same things to justify their opinions or beliefs. I can guess most peoples arguments before they give them about 90% of the time for this reason. I read these things and automatically dismiss them as mostly fiction. -
No, that's not logic. That's based on your opinion that there isn't a QB better than Fields and Jones which I disagree with. Logic would be that they didn't think those 2 were worth the pick and that if they draft one this year they do. That's logical. Pickett has the best chance of being a Burrow like pick. He's got the skills and the swagger. He's the only NFL ready QB in this class. I think he will come in and beat out Darnold and start the season as the guy.

Lawd, Panthers getting dogged on a FB memes page
Panthers Rhule replied to cardiackat88.'s topic in Carolina Panthers
I'm more surprised that people actually still use FB. -
I didn't say only pocket passers. But a QB should be able to throw from the pocket most of the time and run to extend plays or when nothing is there. Running for over 2000 yds in 2 seasons is not throwing the ball very much. Throw first and run to throw later and if all else fails run down field. That's what Wilson does. He's a mobile QB, not a running QB. See the difference? My photo over on the left is a mobile QB but not a running QB. Mobile QBs are great. Running QBs are not. That's my point. I don't know why people can't understand the difference. Willis is a running QB, not a mobile QB.

Outside opinions on the Panthers draft plans
Panthers Rhule replied to Mr. Scot's topic in Carolina Panthers
Yes. For me it wasn't even the football point but the human point. There was no way he should have been on that field. I don't usually yell at my TV that way but I knew he was in danger out there. I'd only seen that once before. I think it was Bernie Kosar with the Browns playing on a broken foot but he never appeared in danger only injured. RG3 looked in danger to me in that game and he was. -
Outside opinions on the Panthers draft plans
Panthers Rhule replied to Mr. Scot's topic in Carolina Panthers
Yes, it was. I thought he was being overhyped too because I thought injuries would be an issue but I never disliked the kid. When I was watching that game I was yelling at the TV "take him out, take him out! He's hurt. You're going to get him killed!" I had to turn off the game and go sit outside to calm down when he went down the last time. I'm an emotional guy and that bothered me in so many ways. But mainly I was just disgusted. -
I agree 100%. I don't think he means involved as in interfering. He's acting like an owner of a business. We saw this in the video last pre-season. He was sitting with his GM and HC and going through their process and asking questions and listening to their answers. Basically, he was making sure everything was getting done the way is was supposed to and that they were ready to do their jobs. He wasn't questioning their choices only their process which is what any good manager or in this case, owner, should do. You make sure your guys have gone through every possibility and thought everything out as best as possible to make sure they are not unprepared for their very important task.

Panthers may now be hesitant to trade back...
Panthers Rhule replied to Mr. Scot's topic in Carolina Panthers
Yeah, we all have our evaluations. Me too. I think there will definitely be a player worth drafting at 6. Pickett (I know, not a popular choice but that's my evaluation), Cross is worth it imo. He's my preferred LT wherever he's drafted. I think he's the most ready to come in and start immediately. He'll need time to develop into a great LT as all LTs do but he's ready. Same for Pickett. He's the most ready to come in early and take over for Darnold this season and I think he will be good at it to. -
Panthers may now be hesitant to trade back...
Panthers Rhule replied to Mr. Scot's topic in Carolina Panthers
But if no one is worth staying at 6 then no one is worth trading up for 6, no? -
I hope this is true!!! It means they stay put and go for 2 instead of 1. The 1 being who I want ofc. lol
-
I agree with you on Pickett. I just hope they aren't intending on stealing him from us. I honestly believe Pickett is going to be great. He has everything he needs to be successful. I've heard he also has the "fire in the belly" like Burrow has. Which I think means he has the Moxy to be a QB in the NFL.

Is Robbie gone? (Tweets and profile pic change.)
Panthers Rhule replied to TheWiz's topic in Carolina Panthers
It's page 4 already so obviously people want to talk about it. I'm just happy to talk about most anything that doesn't involve hating some part of the Panthers. Those posts always come in but at least it's not the topic. -

I like Robbie. He's passionate and honest. He articulates himself in a strange but funny way. I've never heard anyone else talk the way he does. I also believe he's better than last season and I expect him to bounce back this season under the new staff. -

3rd time's a charm definitely sounds like he's being traded. -
He is built more like a QB than an RB and he is faster and a better passer and yet he still was a big mistake at 3 as he still isn't necessarily considered ready to be their starter. They chose an injured Jimmy G to play in the PO instead. In this draft, they could stay with those picks and get a QB and likely a WR or LT. They could likely get Raiman or Penning and Corral or Howell with those picks. No. They aren't. I'd be shocked if Willis goes before 20. I like vegans. They taste good. 3 first round picks with guaranteed salaries could be difficult to manage financially. Better to have 2 + 2. That would also leave them the possibility of trading up next season if they choose.
