Rebuilding the Carolina Panthers - how long will it take?
frankw replied to jayboogieman's topic in Carolina Panthers
As long as Tepper and his wife are involved there is one thing you will always be able to count on. Things ending badly eventually. -
That's interesting and awkward because we've been told Bryce's best comp is Tua. Well about that... I love Cam. Defended the guy tooth and nail when folks were directing ignorance on him that had nothing to do with his on field play. But former players can be wrong about prospects too. Highly paid scouts and general managers are too and that's why many teams consistently are looking for new blood every few years. I think Cam just doesn't want to be wrong. Honestly I'm disappointed he didn't stick up for CJ Stroud at all or try to get the Panthers to at least reconsider him. CJ looked up to him and counted him as an inspiration for himself growing up. Some of the things said about him were also said of Cam. I'll be putting less stock in some of these former player takes going forward. They can be just as wrong as any rando here.

If it was so indisputable as you say why didn't he throw at the combine? Few fans here or any other fanbase have coached or played anywhere near the NFL level. Does that mean they aren't allowed to talk football? Stroud or AR or Levis would have their struggles with this team. Of that I have no doubt. But defenses would have to play us very differently once they watch the film and realize there is a QB behind center who will carve them up all over the field. Defenses are simply not at all scared of Bryce Young's arm. They dare him to throw. Even when we get a receiver behind the entire defense our QB can't hit him. Idk man I think you need to decompress and go put on some chill music or something. You seem hella toxic yourself on this subject and quite frankly you act like you're his agent or his father. It's going to be okay.

Uh I'd argue your statement was revisionist history. Stroud showed off indisputable arm talent that Bryce Young did not. He put the ball in places and tight windows that you look for from elite QB's in the NFL. Surprise surprise he's done that at this level. That unfortunately was never Bryce Young. We drafted him knowing he had an "adequate" arm at best but in no way did he have a cannon or the ability to make throws like we saw from Will Levis when we played the Titans. Your overall argument seems to consist of spinning in circles grasping in every direction for anyone or anything to assign blame. That's fine. That will last the rest of this season and partially next season but the expiration date is near. And please stop putting this kid in the same convo as Cam Newton. Cam Newton was a phsyical monster and an undisputed winner. He brought a different culture to this team. That can't be replicated by just anyone.
-
That's debatable at best. He didn't even throw a the combine. Stroud was the top prospect and that's showing at this level. You don't have to like it but that's the reality.

Folks in here going off the deep end blaming the fans and the overall franchise lol. Where was this energy for Darnold and Bridgewater? Was it also the fault of the fans and the franchise that Kyle Allen wasn't actually the second coming of Tom Brady? Unless you're his agent and are paid to represent him take a deep breath and realize he's set for life no matter what happens here. He will be alright regardless of the fans or the team.

Have ya'll not learned to stop putting expectations on this kid of comparing him to hall of famers??? Before the draft it was Curry and even Michael Jordan and Brees and Doug Flutie. Now that he's going to likely finish with one of the worst statistical seasons ever you're back to this? How about we just let him show us he can be a competent starter and go from there? Cool? Thanks.

Comparing him to Cam in any way shape or form is ridiculous. It shouldn't need to be said but I guess that's where we're at.
-
Right. If my options are to either watch this trade go down in flames as one of the worst in league history or eat crow I'll eat crow 10 times out of 10. Just to be clear if it were to happen it would be one of the most miraculous turnarounds in league history. So we're right back to praying for him to be an outlier amongst outliers. Might as well hope for a winning lotto ticket while we're at it.

Wrong thread.
-
Eh maybe. But with either of those two at least they actually showed something to make you go "wow alright this guy could be special". Still waiting to see that from our first overall pick.
-
Nobody wants Bryce Young to fail and the team to have given up what we did for nothing. Acknowledging the full reality of the situation as it stands ≠rooting for failure. If you didn't go this hard in defense of Baker Mayfield Sam Darnold PJ Walker Teddy Bridgewater or Kyle Allen then just give it a rest.
-
He's been sacked 26 times through 4 games. That's half as many sacks as the Panthers have given up over the course of the entire season at 51. Excellent job bringing this to our attention Mr Mojo Risin 🫡

Endless excuses for everything while trashing every player and coach and making absolutely zero mention of the undrafted QB's playing much better with similar circumstances. And you wonder why you can't get anyone to see eye to eye with you. You sound like you're in a cult.
-
Right. The sparks would be significant and immediate. Might actually be amusing for a time. But Bill would want GM power and there's no way I want to see him making picks after having to suffer through Scott Fitterer's drafts.
-
I'm a big 89 fan but you got this right. I can separate the player from the evaluator. Yes he was one of the few that had Kupp on his draft list at that time. And he spoke highly of DJ Moore. But the Bryce Young love tour and speaking of DJ Moore as if he were an afterthought with the current results becoming more and more clear for both players says short of some basic input here and there we don't need him making picks by any means.

The S2 lab and its testing... not for the faint of heart
frankw replied to TheBigKat's topic in Carolina Panthers
Our team is in the worst state it's ever been in near 30 years. We have the worst record in sports the last several years under the Tepper's. What good does it do to go after each other? If someone has a bad take sure call them out. But griping about threads in general is just as much of a waste of keystrokes as anything else. -
I do not hold a high opinion of Peter King after some of his takes over the years. But I wish he were wrong about my Panthers on this. Damn shame.

What's your point? CJ Stroud's most recent game has been Bryce Young every week 9 times out of ten. CJ Stroud is: 2nd in passing yards 2nd in passing yards per game 3rd in yards per attempt 5th in passer rating 20 touchdowns to 5 interceptions Bryce Young is 25th in passing yards 34th and barely ahead of Kenny Pickett in passing yards per game Dead last in yards per attempt 32nd in passer rating and .05 higher than Daniel Jones who's been shown up by undrafted rookie Tommy DeVito. 9 touchdowns to 10 interceptions. But sure. Let's talk about Stroud's bad game.

The Tua comparisons were always a coping mechanism. McDaniels the system they are running there and the talent they have acquired is why that team is competing the way it has. But even with all that Tua can't get it done against tougher competition. I swear I feel like I'm reliving the Sam Darnold justifications all over again. Remember when people were trying to compare him to Tannehill who was playing decent at the time arguing that could be Sam with the right coaching and supporting cast? Here we are again except this time we traded DJ Moore and next years first overall pick for the right to witness BY fail. This franchise is one nightmare to the next.

The first thing you see is that Bryce Young hop we've all come to know lol
-
Man this "he's a veteran of course he's going to be better he's supposed to be" mantra could not fall more flat now with what we know. At this moment we have seen multiple undrafted rookie QB's play marginally to significantly better than Bryce Young facing similar circumstances. And as far as next year and 2025 goes. Sure Bryce will get the opportunity to prove himself next season. But for the sake of the locker room and the fact that 52 other players will be risking the longevity of their careers that can end in a split second you do not simply hand the QB who is currently the worst starter in the league and all likelihood is going to finish with one of the single worst statistical seasons in the modern era the keys to the team without any competition.
-
I hear you. But we've already seen that. We know Dalton is better. Same oline same receivers same head coach who has been fired. Most points scored all season. And in hostile territory and one of the loudest stadiums in the league. Benching Young only serves to show we've signaled he is toast. You give him at least half of next season to show anything. Of course the issue there is finding a quality head coaching candidate who will want to risk their first and possibly only shot at the gig on Bryce Young. We'll see.
