Albert Breer in SI: Benching Bryce Young Was Not a Rash Decision
frankw replied to TN05's topic in Carolina Panthers
Giants gave up 85 sacks last year. Eighty Five. Still finished with 6 wins. Howell got sacked as many times as BY and still moved the ball albeit with very iffy decision making at times. At some point through it all you have to show something anything to justify why you were taken first overall. We just never saw it. The Packers game was a mirage as far as I'm concerned. Since that game we have been getting absolutely whalloped on the scoreboard with Bryce Young at QB. Don't worry though. We'll always have that "one great preseason drive against the Bills backups" banner. -
Panthers need to move on from Young ASAP
frankw replied to ProcessBlue2's topic in Carolina Panthers
It's going to be awkward having him around because he hasn't exactly been someone that is trying to uplift the offensive players around him on the sideline. I get the vibe there has been a major sigh of relief from the roster as a whole. If you can get something for him at this point you take it and move on. -
Albert Breer in SI: Benching Bryce Young Was Not a Rash Decision

Sounds like an excuse to me. I don't buy this concept. Getting hit the way he did only accelerated and amplified what was already lacking. Truly there is no excuse for him to look like the worst starting QB in the entire league after a full offseason of preparation.- 73 replies

Didn't the Panthers bot just post a fluff piece about this guy too? Kiss of death.

At what point does the NFL competition committee speak with Tepper
frankw replied to TheBigKat's topic in Carolina Panthers
Yeah people forget. Saints have been around since the late 60's and didn't even make the playoffs until 1987. The Bucs were similar too. As long as money keeps rolling in that's all the owners care about. -
Dianna Russini/Chase Daniel Athletic podcast with Joe Person

This. It doesn't matter at this point. It had to be done. I'm thankful for it. Now we turn the page. But big picture. Either way after this season the Tepper's need to remove themselves from any involvement of picking another QB. Cannot state that enough. There is no other path forward to stop being a joke around the league. -
Poll: Has Bryce Played His Last Snap as a Panther?
frankw replied to Captroop's topic in Carolina Panthers
It's possible but idk if he can save face in the locker room and be the leader of the team after they benched him two games in for the good of said locker room. Kiper does make points about the lack of playing in preseason we all talked about that I didn't agree with it. Certainly that has an impact. But at this point it looks to me like they were hiding Bryce Young because they already knew what was up. -
Bryce got benched, but the problem is still the problem
frankw replied to CRA's topic in Carolina Panthers
Meh. Either Dave Canales is the coach we hired him to be or he isn't. We will know in time. -
This should make it quite clear. MvhUNCT1foi9cPvd.mp4

How did nobody catch this before drafting him?
frankw replied to Knaakedup's topic in Carolina Panthers
You never want to hear your franchise player say that after a season full of horrible perfomances. We need to use this as a very costly learning experience and completely change the way we evaluate draft prospects going forward especially QB's. I highlighted this in another thread. -
Assuming it's done do you select a qb this year or wait?
frankw replied to Panthero's topic in Carolina Panthers
I agree we finally need to actually rebuild this team. I also can agree it would probably be best to let any QB we draft sit a year and develop. At the same time it's not a one size fits all and if and when the time comes for that QB to start he's gotta hit the ground running or the criticism will be even more pronounced. It's a show me something sooner rather than later league now fair or not. We also have to consider that just because Bryce Young failed here does not mean it's because we started him too early. From my perspective from here on out I want any QB we are looking to identify as "our guy" to have been through some kind of adversity at any point in their careers. That builds character. For some reason our scouting process last year focused entirely on the wrong things. That must change wholesale now going forward. Draft football players. Draft competitors. Don't draft just for how well some can charm you at dinner. -
Vikings opted for Darnold. All that needs to be said.

Cousins is trash.

I can't say if he earned it or not but i can say what I observed and he had it easy AF compared to the rest of the quarterback class. Bryce Young was unequivocally handled with kid gloves throughout the lead up to the draft over and over and over and over in relation to the other QB prospects. Even after the shenanigans with the combine and very obvious manipulation of his official weight. CJ Stroud was raked over the coals for everything from his upbringing regarding his father to playing on a stacked team with the best WR's in the country (hello irony) to not being a real leader to having a low football IQ to being "uncoachable" to not attending The Forehead's (Peyton Manning) passing camp or whatever the hell it was to even being criticized for attending an awards show wearing "too much" jewelry (a single gold chain around his neck). His character was attacked very similarly to Cam Newton. Will Levis was regarded as an awkward meathead who possibly wouldn't last in an NFL locker room. Anthony Richardson was criticized with the usual tropes of having little to no football IQ and just having a big arm with inconsistent accuracy. Bryce did not deserve a pass from all that scrutiny. He's been coddled for a long time now. Truth is truth.

I'd really like to believe that. Time will tell.

Between you and me brother I don't even want the first pick again. Top 5-10 is fine for us to take another shot. Let the chips fall where they may and let Canales and Morgan pick their QB (with a heavy emphasis on physical talent that can't be taught) and see if it works out this time.
-
Honestly get Matt Rhule vibes from the whole Young family. Grifters.
-
I'm guessing he's pro tank. Perfectly fine to feel that way and given our history I understood the sentiment. Completely unrealistic though given there are real lives and careers involved in this.
-
I don't care who ultimately made the decision at this point. I'm just relieved to move forward. However we go from here and whomever the next long term QB ends up being hopefully we can both agree that our ownership needs to BUTT OUT and let the head coach and GM select the guy they think is the best fit.
-
Yooooooooooooo. Damn lol

Tepper is a meddler it is what it is. We don't know how hands off he is currently it's still early in the season. But he's been having regular meetings with Canales and it's only week 3 so it's unlikely IMO that they never discussed benching the first overall pick the Panthers traded a fortune for.
-
I don't think anyone is expecting us to win much this is about developing the roster nothing more.
-
I find it hard to believe there was no involvement from Tepper. Either way Canales did what he had to do for the good of his team.
-
Low expecations. Just want to see some of the young players in this offense show some development and go from there.
