It's a preseason game, but...losing is not an option.
frankw replied to TD alt's topic in Carolina Panthers
I definitely do not want to be the first team Shedeur has a really good game against. But none of it really matters. I mean Bryce and the offense looked good against the Bills backups last year and most people breathed a sigh of relief until weeks 1 and 2. In the end it doesn't mean anything. I won't be a believer until I see competitive football early in the regular season. -
CPcavedweller is either not playing with a full deck or trolling. He will randomly and unprompted bash one of our best pass rushers in franchise history but then go to war for the likes of Justin Tucker.

If running to pass really works we got market cornered!!!

Chuba also missed two games. The single season rushing leader in franchise history is DeAngelo Williams with 1,515 yards. Stephen Davis is second with 1,444 yards. And if Chuba had played those other two games he could have made a push for Davis's record no doubt. For all the talk of lack of weapons that's a pretty damn productive season. -
They're starting Sanders. Don't care if we win or lose but the Panthers 1's better be ready to bring some heat for the home crowd.

Chuba had just shy of 1200 rushing yards and we were still 30th in passing yards per game. The opposing defense has to fear your passer for this to come to fruition. -
Even if he didn’t have the extra baggage he was 32nd in FG% in 2024 and 16th (only 2 spots ahead of Eddie P) in 2023. End this thread.

Oh man don't even give me this revisionist history. So many people dunked on others predraft all but declaring Bryce was so good and generational and head and shoulders far away the best prospect in the draft that we would be able to compete right away and wouldn't need to sink the salary cap and multiple more first round picks into surrounding him with talent. 3 years later we are top 5 in the league in salary cap allocation to the offensive line and we've invested 2 first round picks in WR one of them an 8th overall for the first time in franchise history. Goff threw for all those yards and touchdowns and go look at his WR room that year. Not a single 1k WR. Even Cupp didn't even crack 900 yards. We can hope Bryce becomes a franchise QB without this foolishness to try and shoehorn him into a conversation he doesn't yet belong in. I certainly hope to see him earn that this season. But I don't have to contort myself into a pretzel to make him appear something that he is not yet currently. It's that straightforward.

One minute this place says Goff is trash the next minute he's elite again and suddenly he was a massive bust from the jump In his first full season as a starter Goff threw for 3800 yards (10th in the league) averaged 8 yards a pass (7th in the league) 28 touchdowns (5th in the league) and 7 ints. That's 200 passing yards shy of Cam's rookie of the year season with more touchdowns and 10 less turnovers. The lengths some folks will go to shine up a terrible to mediocre resume for our own QB are simply hysterical.

I've skimmed and laughed at quite a few gameday threads here over the years and certainly over the last several years mainly for laughs. Where more often than not we've been steaming dogshit. And while people have and will continue to gripe loudly about numerous areas of the team that fail especially the defense. Ultimately it's always going to circle back to the starting QB. The team goes as the QB goes. It's the most consequential position. The fragility some display over this is unnecessary.
-
If you're seeking productive conversation that terminology isn't going to assist in rational dialogue. I haven't condemned him. I'm for seeing what he has through the rest of camp and into preseason. If he sinks then you leave no stone unturned there will be other kickers available after roster cuts and go from there. We shouldn't be afraid to move quickly.
-
Impossible to say who will be good mediocre or great from that group. Could be none. Which would follow the norm for the position as of late. We would all love another young Kasay aside from the Super Bowl gaffe. For right now I'll just settle for stability for a few seasons. Whether it's a UDFA or a vet. I think that's best case scenario for the time being.
-
If you go up and down the list of GOAT kickers many are undrafted. But that was a different time for football. That was the only point I was making. Not that it was best kicker ever or bust. Anyways I've said all I can idk why some of you are so grumpy about this discussion but carry on.
-
There's a combination of contributing factors but there just isn’t staying power with the position anymore. But it also doesn’t need to be a situation where it hurts you worse than other teams if it is managed correctly. We'll just have to see how Morgan handles it and how his approach varies from the last several years. But we definitely do need to take a different angle.
-
Right now looking at how other teams are handling the position if we are lucky we will get a kicker who is competent and reliable enough for two or three years and then reset again. Because there's a lot of fools gold out there too. Guys who will have a brief run over the course of a season and then crash.
-
In hindsight obviously we should not have traded Butker and it was a glaring boneheaded move but there's also the reality that we haven't done a damn thing competively the last 7 years anyways so
-
I understand that. But it's simply a different league for the position now. UDFA kickers now versus 20 or 25 years ago just aren't the same. You aren't going to stumble into an undrafted Adam Vinatieri.
-
Ultimately you have to acknowledge the reality that Fitzgerald is a UDFA. It's still pretty early. When we get to preseason teams will be facing some roster dilemmas and if need be we can snatch up another young kicker. I mean honestly other teams have been facing the same issues the Panthers have with the kicker position. You simply don't see the rock solid cornerstone kickers like you used to anymore aside from a few rare ones. But other teams have managed to navigate similar situations without it becoming a catastrophe. The Panthers just need to follow the lead of those other teams.

This is a developmental season barring a miracle where we make a playoff push. We can resolve kicker next year with our other needs. Probably will end up drafting one.
-
At what point in time is this statement referring to? Because both seasons there were glaring moments Bryce directly hurt the offense and the team regardless of the pieces around him. Statements like this only create more of the same back and forth interactions here. Bryce finally played up to the standards of an average starting QB and flashed some nice moments to finish the season last year. But there's still a ton of growth we need to see early and throughout the season in order to slam the door shut and declare him a franchise QB. That's all anyone needs to say.
-
Honestly a very solid fair and well researched breakdown of the Panthers. Kudos to him.
-
If debating on whether or not David Tepper has met or exceeded the Dan Snyder standard is where we're at then his reputation as an owner is already established and confirmed. But he's wildly wealthy so he doesn’t give a damn regardless. He doesn’t need anyone wasting keystrokes trying to humanize him. He isn't going anywhere and if he does then that just means we're stuck with Nicole. Chuckle and keep walking folks.

My hope for an ending to the musical chairs at kicker is waning
frankw replied to TD alt's topic in Carolina Panthers
While I am concerned about it I don't expect much this year record wise so it isn't like it's going to sink a great season. Give the young guy the keys and let him sink or swim. If we are trending upward by the end of the year then it can be something to directly address in 2026 along with our other needs.
