Johnson was a TE for two of his 4 years in college. As a DE/OLB he had 8 sacks in the other 2 years. But for this I'm speaking strictly in terms of the jump to the NFL. Jarrett never even cracked 200 receiving yards in a single season. Only scored one touchdown in his career. DJ Johnson has one half sack in two seasons. They both have had horribad NFL careers despite their physical talent. That's all I'm saying.
-
Of course he's up there but in fairness even colossal bust Everette Brown at 22 years old had 6 sacks in his first two seasons. DJ Johnson at 26 years old has one half sack in two seasons.

I agree with you about fragile egos. But it is outside the realm of possibility. If we wanted him we should have drafted him. He was falling. Now instead we get to see if we've found our new PJ Walker...
-
For us it's stupid. He's cheapish right now and we have not drafted a center in years. We had the chance but took an injured RB. It would be stupid to make what is already looking shaky but not terrible a terrible situation and then back ourselves into a situation of being desperate for a center next year and probably drafting a bust. I mean it's just how this team operates unfortunately.

Well it's about the best we could hope for given the situation the front office has put themselves in. Get him out there and let it rip and see what happens.

This guy is the Dwayne Jarrett of Panthers pass rushers. Thanks Evero.

Typical Panthers. While clearly talented he will be 31 in December and wants to maximize what will likely be his final chance at a big contract. It would be one thing to give up draft picks. But to potentially trade a player or player(s) and pay him a record contract? With the state of the depth across our roster? If true. This smells of Tepper. And as such we can dispense with any past notion that Morgan is actually in the driver's seat.

All we have to hang our hats on right now is how we supposedly looked in joint practice and even then our head coach Dave Canales himself expressed concern about conditioning. If you want to say it's a matter of opinion that's fine. But there is enough information to form a conclusion that this team continually looks mediocre or awful in preseason and then looks awful to start the regular season. And that is regardless of who the head coach is. I certainly strongly hope that they flip a switch and suddenly become a competent team in Jacksonville and Arizona. But I wouldn't bet anything of value on that.

Team will never be good as long as Tepper owns the team

Don't see the need to personally insult someone because they are highlighting unfortunate realities. Now yes you could say he may have exaggerated literally the worst ever but the numbers say it was one of the 3 worst rookie seasons in several decades of statistical analysis so maybe stop trying to shoot the messenger and create enemies where there aren't any. -
The Panthers are simply not a team that drafts well overall. It's unfortunate but it's the reality we are living. As far as trading up. That's only one layer. But expectations for the top draft slot have always been in the stratosphere. Every single first overall pick has practically had the weight of the world put on them in terms of expectations. It's always been that way. And no Bryce Young does not have to do more than Cam Newton. He does not possess the sheer phsyical talent of Cam. But he does or so we were told countless times supposedly possess the brain of a smaller Peyton Manning. Elite processing. That was supposed to be his super power. What separates him from other QB's. So far unfortunately in his third season the best we can say on that is we don't know. And that in itself is a big problem.

Yeah I really wish I could argue with this but it is hard not to notice it. Let's see what the regular season brings. If this continues he deserves the heat. -

Me personally I would have opted for one of the younger veterans. Even someone early thirties. You could check both the mentorship box and have someone who could play for an extended period of time and still get some much needed developmental reps for your young offensive players in the event of unforseen circumstances. Because that's one thing this franchise cannot afford beyond more losing. They can't afford to waste another season with either poor or no development for their young roster. It's waste on top of waste. And it's negligence.

I generally agree with you that Bryce and the starters should have given it a go another series. But it probably would have resulted the same. And ultimately the fear is the way Bryce looked in that final drive lacked confidence and looked shaky at best. Preseason or not for a third year QB I think Canales just wanted to get him off the field. The look on Bryce's face after on the sideline said everything. It's tough being a Panthers fan.

Andy is quite a bit older than Derek was back then. For context. Derek Anderson in his very last season when he was very obviously done done he was 35. Andy Dalton is 37. Go ahead and read that back a few more times. This didn't just happen overnight. Andy Dalton didn't just wake up one morning this year and become a bad QB like he lost his talent like the basketball players in Space Jam. The front office knew what they were doing. They knew the risk. They did it anyway for comfort instead of what is best for the team. That is old fashioned healthy competition. At the most consequential position on the field. They only have themselves to blame. They are by no means victims of circumstance.

If looking good in practice actually meant anything the Panthers wouldn't be careening into their 8th consecutive losing season. -
Brother. Brother.... The New Orleans Saints knew Andy Dalton was washed and barely backup worthy two whole years ago. We got to see what Andy Dalton looked like with more than 1 start under his belt last year too. It resulted in some of the worst whoopings in years. Why some of you are still running from the truth like this is bordering on cult like.

Well when you're right you're right. The common denominator is ownership. -
I feel you. I've been wrong on things over the years but with the Panthers under Tepper generally what you see is what you get. I would be thrilled to be pleasantly surprised. But the Richardson years as imperfect as they certainly were might as well have been another life compared to this. On the last part of your post though. There are some people around here though who choose to weaponize things and go off the deep end doling out retribution over discussions. I might troll from time to time but I'm not spamming reactions on anyone over these discussions like some have multiple times within the last month alone. At the end of the day we all want the same thing. But there are people here who can't function and spiral if they encounter opinions that make them uncomfortable. It doesn't have to be this way. All roads lead to our ownership. That's where any ire should ultimately be directed.
