Where would the Panthers be if they sat Bryce Young last season?
frankw replied to hepcat's topic in Carolina Panthers
Dalton is honestly garbage. He's on par with Sam Darnold at this stage in his career. All circumstances aside you want your #1 pick to be a push minimum in comparison. Not one of the statistical worst rookie season of the last 20 years. Bryce has a lot of work to do and a lot to make up for. I hope he does. We will know by November. -

More of the same arguments and copes. Yawn. Need this season to get here so we can definitively know what we have in Bryce Young and get the excuses out the door once and for all. -
I was wondering about this so good to know they are going in a whole different direction altogether. Worse drafts than even Marty Hurney? Yeah.... see ya.

Why Corbett (and Brady Christensen) will make good Centers
frankw replied to MHS831's topic in Carolina Panthers
The UDFA center we signed is intriguing. But that's all we've got to hang our hat on. Honestly we should be keeping another option in our back pocket even if it means signing another vet. For those saying that's too cautious. Go back and watch the OL play from last season. Then go back even further and watch Matt Paradis play center for us. Then come back here and tell me there's nothing to be concerned about. -
Panthers Select Jonathan Brooks RB - 46th Pick, Round 2

For sure the takes this go around are much more realistic and less prone to simple blind faith. There is optimism but it is about the additions we've made that are being done differently. We are acquiring talent and young talent not low end projects and overpaying to do so. And the fact that so many people are expressing concern about the center position shows the fanbase is finally learning. As I've said before we all want the same thing. There is nothing wrong with difference of opinion. Even with csx we can give each other grief but I've got no beef with him on the whole he's just as committed to the team as me or anyone else. But no one is required to pledge fealty to any coach front office member or owner of this team. For some reason others borderline expect that. I don't get it. But to each his own. -

Ironically I was just reading a thread from 2021 about Scott Fitterer's first offseason and lo and behold guess who was there trying to portray me as a no fun allowed hater because I wanted to actually see the new GM produce some results that turn into winning football before crowning him? It was you on your last account @Moo Daeng Here's a word for ya my guy. -

Whew buddy I caught some strays in that thread just for suggesting we let Scott Fitterer prove any level of a consistent track record before annointing him. That turned out well... -
Wanting your first overall pick to perform like a first overall pick is not a witch hunt. I feel like the majority of fans here are on the same page and want to see the offensive improvements come to fruition and yes that includes Bryce. But there will be very little room if any for excuses.

Grades are in; how did Panthers do in this years draft
frankw replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
This is a good and realistic take on our draft and our situation going forward overall for anyone interested. -
Who ya'll going with?

Simms and Boomer out is addition by subtraction but Matt Ryan? One step forward three steps back. Will not watch.

The Corbett hype and assumptions being made by many here give me an uneasy feeling all too reminiscent of years past. Anyone remember that line "the answer is already on the roster?" How'd that work out for us? We've had some awful center play since Kalil retired. I'm not sold on hopes and dreams about Corbett. But this is the gamble we've made. Regardless I will accept no excuses for poor QB play this season with the overall investments that have been made. We need to see improvement and trips to the end zone. Make it work.

I agree that wanting a strong running game isn't akin to Foxball. I see nothing so far about Canales that leads me to believe he is going to be stubborn and archaic in his approach to gameplanning or playcalling. At least I hope. Also as has always been the case a good running game is desired for a young QB. But for us running the ball isn't going to make a significant change in our scoring output IMO. Which is the primary goal we should be setting our sights on. If we take a step or two with Canales and this new offensive group with the additions we've made it will be because Bryce Young is passing the ball like we expect of a top overall pick. In the meantime I'll be curious to see how our undrafted rookie QB does in camp and preseason. Obviously Bryce is the starter but some competition is good for all involved. -

Niners as much as I dislike KS he is a top 3 coach in the NFL we don't have that and they are also loaded with talent especially in the lines. He can guide that to a Super Bowl with a game manager. Ravens also have a damn good coach a loaded team and a dynamic QB that has to be accounted for at all times. Lions would probably be closer to us in comparison but Goff is a damn good QB that honestly has been poo on unfairly. But he can stretch the field with his arm. Dolphins are loaded but their passing game kept them from advancing in the playoffs and our own QB's best comp in Tua is reworking his throwing motion as a result of a dismal passing performance in their last playoff game. Yeah it's good to have a strong running game but you still have to be able to move the chains with your arm and sooner or later in a game in different scenarios you have to put together a drive to win or take the lead and you are not going to be able to run it at will in each of those situations no matter how good your oline might be. There's no need to dig deep to cope. We have some optimism based on the draft additions we've made. Let's apply that realistically. We still need to be able to move the ball through the air and open up the whole field. Bryce Young either accomplishes that or he doesn't. -

If our new offensive identity is run first in any way shape or form in a league that is laughably skewed toward passing just go ahead and figure out which QB we want in the draft next year. -
With the team or the fans? The owners and front office want to remove the egg from their face they want to be vindicated so they have a certain level of emotional attachment. As do some fans for various reasons. But the roster is comprised of players of different position groups and different payscales that are directly affected by QB play no matter what they say publicly and many will not want to stick around if there is another season of statistical bottom of the league QB play with no viable solution. Overall. He has the 2024 season to show definitive proof he is worthy of the #1 pick or we draft another QB next year. I hope he does. I don't want to have to start over again. That being said. There's no emotional attachment. I'm not going to rejoice if he only proves himself to be a decent game manager. I will be calling for another QB to be drafted early as I've seen enough game managers. He needs to be dynamic and he needs to establish a deep ball connection. Period. That is the basic standard for a first overall quarterback. Anything less is 2025 first round QB for me.

One thing I'll say about this draft is we seem to have drafted particularly the 3 offensive players guys who have a specific personality trait. They aren't keep your head down types or timid they want to compete and they are confident in themselves. Pairing that with Canales I at least have some optimism about our offense going forward now.

I like what I'm seeing. Let's see how it all unfolds in training camp. Should be fun.
