Who impressed & who needs to get his ass cut (Preseason week 1)
frankw replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
Milton is only a subject at all here because our first overall pick has had red flags about his deep ball or lack thereof going back to Alabama. Mac Jones who wasn't even activated last night had a better deep ball in college. The defensiveness is unnecessary. The facts are what they are until proven otherwise. -
That would be ridiculous. No chance of it. I mean the entire org from top to bottom would have to be an absolute PR disaster for it to be in consideration. Canales should and will get 2 years minimum. You also need to let him draft and try to develop his own QB. Which by the way is what we should have been doing from jump street back in 2020. It is so frustrating the path we have gone down these last several years.

I'm happy to hear that. Maybe the timing of this ringing endorsement after 30 something starters were being paid to stand on the sidelines and watch the rest of the team suck total ass for 4 quarters isn't ideal though. Wins and losses are all that matter. Players talking him up helps his case because obviously it's good that people like you. On the flip side players loved Marty Hurney too. Wins and losses...

So were we planning on skipping a live camera presser all along or? Optics wise it looks really weak when the staff made the decision that set this fiasco in motion. It gives the appearance the head coach is already on the run from his decisions. Not good no matter how you could want to spin it. Can't expect accountability from your roster and then operate like this.

Panthers plane ran off runway at Charlotte after preseason loss
frankw replied to LegioX's topic in Carolina Panthers
Glad everyone is okay. That's a very random event after such an ugly start to the preseason. Although it did rain here a ton over the last 24 hours. Could this be a sign? Either the team goes from here with a new mission or they fold from the jump. Hopefully the former. -
Oh stop it. The staff would have had at least 3 full quarters to evaluate our backups after pulling the starters like almost every other team has or will be doing in their first week of preseason. We were scared plain and simple. Whether it be about injuries or the fact the staff doesn't think they're ready it doesn't even matter. This is not how you change the culture of a completely rudderless franchise. Guys laughing on the sidelines after dropping passes while we are once again a punchline to the rest of the league. That's more of the same.

Please end that meme once and for all. "We need some dawgs!" *3 total points in the final seconds against a shitty post Brady/Belichick Patriots team*

You can evaluate Bryce Young and keep him as the starter while also developing a possible fallback plan if needed. Walking and chewing gum at the same time. Nobody believes in Andy Dalton. Nobody needs Andy Dalton. He's a nice guy here collecting free money while we fart around. I'm not advocating for Milton. I'm simply saying anything would have been better than whispering sweet nothings in Bryce's ear and telling him how special he is while signing the worst UDFA QB available. Criticism ≠ meltdown. I'm not saying Canales isn't the guy or he's going to be fired. I don't have a crystal ball. But I do have over 2 decades of experience watching this franchise attempt to football and what I'm seeing so far is more of the same of the last several years of offensive disaster. Could it change? Sure. Do I hope it does? Absofuginlutely. Would I bet money on it? Nope. All I know is in about a month we open the season with our arch rival the Saints on the road in New Orleans and we better get our act together in a hurry if we don't want to be subjected to further embarrassment.

I watched a few quarters of that feed and gave up. Absolute trash. Salute to you for somehow enduring the full game with it.
-
So not remotely a threat to Bryce Young? There's your answer.

Dak will be 32 next summer. Draft Shedeur and hope the swag infusion alone will uplift this poverty franchise.

I got a random call from an enthusiastic Panthers sales rep trying to get me to buy PSL's on Wednesday. She was very pleasant and just doing her job but I almost laughed at her when she unironically asked me why I was hesitant to make such an investment. I politely informed her the team needs to perform significantly better for that to be under any level of consideration.

So maybe actually give your top overall pick a healthy nudge and add another young QB that wasn't hot garbage in college? The Lions had a top offense last year. They nearly went to the Super Bowl. Our Panthers had the league's worst offense and it wasn't particularly close either. We were at times in a league of our own we were so putrid. You and I both know that's a laughably desperate connection you tried to make.

This is our 2nd offensive head coaching hire in back to back seasons. We look as bad or worse so far. It's a results league. You don't like it? Hey that's cool. But even mediocre franchises are finding ways to look at least partially competent offensively. Yes his offense needs to establish some semblance of competence soon. Were you one of those fans here that talked down to others last year about how bad we looked in preseason wasn't indicative of how we'd look in the regular season? You seem like the type.
-
The Panthers were too focused on making the worst starting QB in the league last season as comfortable as possible to draft a developmental QB. Washed up journeyman Andy Dalton and one of the worst UDFA QB's available are all we get. This team better look night and day against the Jets with the starting lineup or Canales is going to start getting the Rhule/Reich treatment. The honeymoon ended 3 quarters ago babycakes.

Someone is going to have to clue Dave Canales in that this is not the way to introduce your vision for the future to the fanbase when they just witnessed probably the worst season offensively for any NFL team in many years. You sit 30ish starters and say you want to evaluate your depth? Okay. Well your offense better at least look halfway competent. This is a shitshow and what you set yourself up for when you bring attention to yourself by breaking away from what many other teams in the league are doing.

3 and out. Panthers football baby!

I wish you and your family nothing but the very best and hope for a successful recovery for Mr. Scot.

With Icky he either develops and plays better or we move on at left tackle. There wasn't a whole lot for Morgan to do there time being. But the center situation he Canales all of us fans and the players have seen coming a mile away. We took a big risk with the middle of our line. Now we're having buyers remorse already. Understandably many fans don't want to hear excuses.

If you have to sit your first overall pick to get a look at your OL then your GM has some explaining to do. The OL has been an issue every year for how long now?
