Considering he's been at this thing for a short time he did just fine. We could do much worse than having one of the best players in franchise history commentating for us. I welcome more of it.

Until results prove otherwise I can't say Sam is head and shoulders above PJ. Both quarterbacks can sling it and move around the pocket well but both quarterbacks have questionable decision making and that's the variable that can make or break the season. But both are still much better options than Bridgewater was because they'll actually take chances and try to push the ball downfield. But when you look at it from that angle Teddy never should have been here in the first place.

Neither of you are really wrong. The issue is value of investment and the Panthers unwillingness to put all their chips in and acquire the face of their franchise. They only did so in 2011 begrudgingly but they were rewarded for it in a big way. As long as they're only willing to budget mode the most important position in the nfl odds are they will keep yielding the same results.

I totally hear you. It was a preseason game. But Carolina also has a penchant for letting random quarterbacks dump all over their secondary. In the regular season. I want to see our 8th overall pick get some solid reps before the season starts.
-
It was better than I anticipated but it was definitely sloppy with penalties and PJ's mobility saved the offense on more than one occasion. There are some things to like moving forward but at the end of the day these were backups playing backups and Carolina will undoubtedly be seeking any upgrades to their oline depth that they can find once cuts begin.

You have to admit this is just a little hypocritical after months of cherry picking stats in defense of Darnold and other free agent acquisitions fans have had reservations about...

Oh I agree don't get me wrong. But at some point with all the losing it just turns into a big vent session. It hasn't helped going straight from the extremely deflating Bridgewater mess to an unknown in Sam Darnold after for better or worse passing on drafting a quarterback. If September brings wins that will go a long way in restoring good vibes and quality conversation. If not. Well...

Not sure what you expect from a franchise that has been largely stuck in a funk of perpetual losing for 25 years save for a few bright spot seasons here and there along the way. If the team starts winning again things will improve and if not the fanbase will just keep eating itself. I doubt it's much better on the Jets or Lions forums either.

There's really no excuse in not having a plan for crowd noise though that's a lack of preparation. For all the talk of preseason reps being unnecessary for our starters that omission is not a good look for anyone.

Had this issue as well. Unlikely you missed much though if you had actually recorded as my feed was crummy for half the game and went out multiple times. They only had it fixed finally in the third quarter.

For me it's more the fact that we are going through this all over again after the same thing with Gano. Not every team has a great kicker situation obviously but not every team goes from one mess to the next either. The Panthers can't afford to be leaving points on the board which is why we could have at least brought in another leg in camp but what's done is done. Here's to hoping Slye becomes more consistent but odds are he remains who he has been to this point. Boom or bust.

You'll have to wait until Irving can make it onto the field first.
-
If we value Sam's health and want him to play a full season for the first time in his career yes.
-
I'm much less concerned about holding a lead as I am about maximizing red zone opportunities and settling for field goals with an inconsistent kicker who is even struggling with PATs.
-
The end to the game there should put the exclamation mark on the quarterback depth of this team. "We've seen him in practice. Now we need to see him in a game." 89 bottom line
-
Yeah let's not tempt the football gods. For however Pride may have been playing before the guy is clearly struggling rn try to keep things classy. Don't like to see that for anyone. Hoping this secondary depth is up to the task in the NFC south. Gonna be a long season.
-
All that matters is it's a far sight better than what we've suffered through since 89 left and those years of never having a viable #2 receiver even when he was here.
-
Grier is what he is but it helps when the receiver catches a pass in his chest.
-
Weird you're this pressed about a rookie getting a little praise.
-
Will Grier looking like Zach Galifianakis from Masterminds.
-
Definitely should have brought another kicker to camp. Needed competition not fluff about how ripped Joey is.

Credit to PJ Walker for answering the bell today. Very happy to see some big threat potential in Hubbard. Marshall Tremble and Smith look ready to contribute. Too bad kicker looks like the same hit and miss sad factory. Really gotta put emphasis on red zone efficiency.
