One dimensional offensively if we are making #22 the workhorse without a viable change of pace back. Yes we have talented receivers but we have a timid quarterback so the deep ball game will be limited and we will not be able to keep defenses honest consistently enough. For all the talk about our defense not forcing a third down it was the defense that kept us in close games in the second half of the season last year. But without legit corners we are still going to get eaten up in the nfc south. We need a quarterback who can go deep with accuracy. Even noodle arm Ryan was dumping on us last year.

Anyone out there who looks at the current Panthers salary cap commitments and lack of clear path to the next viable franchise quarterback and thinks to themselves that looks good is not living in reality. This franchise invested 170 million dollars in three players over the last two seasons two of which are increasingly expendable positions while we have been entirely passed by the teams within our division even the lowly Falcons. There is no path to postseason contention when you win one divisional matchup. None of that screams rebuild or retooling especially when you restructure two of those contracts before the ink is barely dry a year later. Trading away multiple first round picks was a dream scenario for the most part but making a bold acquisition for an actual franchise quarterback has been the only rationale left to explain the moves we have made which are the opposite of a rebuild. If we can build a real offensive line I would feel better about this but we seem to be heading in the same direction as previous years if we plan on ignoring trends within the rest of the league by successful teams like an rn by committee approach and not riding one rb like a rented mule and celebrating all purpose yards when your team gets their poo pushed in by the rest of the division because you are one dimensional.

Wow you can really hold a grudge. Maybe let that go at some point.

Don't hold your breath about the Panthers lucking into another Russell Wilson in the third round. It is highly unlikely another prospect like that falls that much in a league that is so quarterback driven now. Some desperate team will overdraft.

Walker is unlikely the answer but some of his attributes definitely are. If we want to actually step out of the cellar of the NFC South we need a quarterback with the means and willingness to take a few risks and rifle some passes in tight windows and obviously stretch the field when the time comes. Newton made a living off this and thrived when he was consistent. Things went off the rails when he started to physically deteriorate. Anyway if you are serious about competing again and not being a doormat for the Bucs Saints and Falcons on their way to the playoffs we aren't in a position to turn away possible options. We're kind of desperate. Leave no stone unturned. As far as Grier goes it is disappointing and I like him on a personal level but current outlook says he's yet another mid to late round whiff at quarterback the Panthers have become known for over the years added to the list of names such as Brett Basanez and Stefon Lefors. You have to accept it and move forward.

Why the hostility? He can't throw to himself.

1 Absoulte Certainty: No Teddy 2021 (That is all at this point)
frankw replied to davos's topic in Carolina Panthers
Doesn't help matterd to guide the team to a 1-5 divisional record while chumming it up on the Saints bench in a bitter loss in the Superdome. Some of the ire he has brought on himself no doubt. -
49ers just traded to possibly get....Mac Jones
frankw replied to WarPanthers89's topic in Carolina Panthers
With the way Panthers fans are shunning him I wouldn't be at all shocked if they take him and he turns out to be a stud for Shanahan. This place doesn't exactly have a sterling rep with draft predictions. -
You'll need thicker skin than that to make it through another season my man. We have already witnessed Jimmy Clausen and David Carr wearing white gloves. This is child's play by comparison.

You get lost on your way to the Jets board? Sounds like you are taking mimicking your favorite football team to the extreme.
-
You have to give the Fins credit. In the past they have been quite the dumpster fire but they are making big moves and have serious assets. The Panthers can't even out tank the Falcons or WFT.
-
Or we could just move on from both duds and start PJ Walker if we are actually rebuilding. But the amount of cap space we have incinerated in just one and a half offseasons for a team that has 2 wins within the division since 2019 kind of says otherwise. We have a front office that can't decide what they want to do. Is it any wonder we are saddled with a backup quarterback being paid 20 million a year?
-
And away we go. In other news...RIP Jessica Walter.

Weird flex after your awkward attempt at equating the desire to acquire a better quarterback with automatically defending sexual assault but okie dokie.
-
Viewing boycott? No won't change anything but I can relate to the rationale this isn't exactly an easy franchise to follow. I do rather envy the swagger of the Dolphins front office though. While you gloat about your team getting the shaft draft position wise they are making moves and weren't foolish enough to throw a bag at Teddy Bridgewater in the process.
-
Hard to blame them but it's an individual choice. Just because you choose to hitch your wagon to the definition of mediocre because you don't want to admit you were wrong doesn't make you the arbiter of Carolina Panthers fanhood.
-
The Panthers squandered an opportunity for a top 3 pick the last two years in what ended up being losing seasons so this is what you get. Sitting around plotting on next years top pick is for fools. You cannot play it safe on your way to a SB win anymore. If you are risk averse you will be a couch surfing team come January and February more often than not so accept this and evolve or try a new sport.

Grier failed to secure the backup spot from a former xfl player on a team with Teddy Bridgewater as the starter. Let it go.

Very apt username for this take.

How is this still going? His judgement is awful no matter how you choose to look at this and you cannot make someone like that the face of your franchise in 2021 and certainly not for that kind of investment.
-
All in on Fields Wilson or Lance bite the bullet and make the move for one and go heavy on the line and bring in another halfback.
-
To your first point that is valid. Yet the truth is we are now in that position with Teddy anyway while being on the hook for a much bigger cap loss. That is quite a significant negative now matter how we try to spin it. On your second point, metrics mean pretty much squat if the quarterback can't finish when it counts. Even Baby Goat was somehow capable enough to finish off a few games in the fourth quarter. Geez even Newton who is clearly a shell of himself managed to hobble together a few fourth quarter finishes. How on Earth did we downgrade from that? We won the same number of divisional matchups with Bridgwater as we did the previously mentioned quarterbacks. One. Uno. That is embarrassing at best. I have been around the block long enough to understand why some are still dying on this hill with Bridgwater. It's a shame but some things just don't change.

Baseless accusations of butthurt sounds like an emotional reaction to a simple perfomance based discussion. It is salary cap space that could have been utilized beefing up the offensive line and adding another starting corner at the least. The argument you are presenting does not jive with reality. If the Carolina Panthers were willing to spend the kind of money they did on a quarterback do you believe they did not have the expectation he would be even a slight improvement over Allen or a deteriorating Newton? If all they were seeking was a placeholder for a year or two they could have achieved that for significantly less investment and addressed other areas of need to be ready for the next quarterback when the time came to hand off the reigns. The present day dilemma is that simple.

Personal attacks are unnecessary and embarrassing for the fans. Reality however is just that. 33 million dollars in guarantees says he will ultimately be okay despite it all. That much money for backup level play is quite the break in itself. He does not need folks here throwing themselves into flames on his behalf.
