Matt Rhule after SECOND Joint Practice with the Colts
frankw replied to SBBlue's topic in Carolina Panthers
See one post in and the namecalling is activated. It isn't even noon lol. Yet you jump all over others for what you perceive to be emotional posts and takes. Be the change you seek if you're genuine. If not keep acting like some wannabe high school jock tough guy -
It's good this group has some fight in them. That should help the locker room gel. But you still need some leadership so cooler heads prevail and guys don't get tossed from games or suspended. It doesn't take much for a little scrap to escalate and flags start flying and personal fouls handed out.

Matt Rhule after SECOND Joint Practice with the Colts

You've been wailing nonstop at anyone with an opposing view since yesterday afternoon. Maybe a break is good. -
Talk about throwing Walker and Grier to the wolves.
-
You are being snippy about it but nobody forced you into this thread you quoted someone about Fields and initiated an interaction. Fans of different football teams discuss other players their team passed over in the draft all the time Panthers fans included this isn't some new phenomenon. You are going to have to put your big boy pants on and accept not everyone here is going to be a drone and repeating the same take.

Fields isn't a fourth year pro. As of now most are less concerned about Sam and more about the line in front of him.
-
He got no favors from the universe in going to Chicago. He and Zach Wilson face quite the uphill battle but that's the downside to going in the top 10 as a qb you know you're going to a crummy situation. Ask Burrow.

Very insightful thank you.

What the Indianapolis Colts media is saying about the joint practice
frankw replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
There isn't a great deal of information to speak of this year to form a full picture but he has had some nice throws and found some consistency after a few turnovers when camp first began. The question is can the protection allow him to develop and find his groove. -

Paradis has had a major injury already in his career and is having back issues now and he will be 32 this fall. Ryan Kalil called it quits for Carolina at 33. Odds are next year we will be exploring options at center. -
His overall record speaks for itself but that was the best season in franchise history and nobody can take that away from any of them. I'm not holding onto bad feelings for any of those players or mgmt from back then it's not worth it. I'm in the now and expecting success from our new braintrust We need a new team culture and that begins with winning.

If Carolina can't elevate the oline to at least average we could be looking at another 3rd or 4th place finish in the division. This is a very young team and in search of their identity. Back in May we were tied with the Vikings for the second youngest roster in the league. https://pantherswire.usatoday.com/2021/05/15/panthers-nfl-second-youngest-roster-after-draft/ -
That 2015 team had veteran leadership present and the Panthers had also been competitive within the division winning the south three years running. It's a long road ahead to be anywhere near that coming off back to back 5 win seasons and a 2-10 divisional record

With the lack of intensity the lack of any real leaders stepping up and coach going out of his way to publicly call out specific position groups while omitting others I'm not loving the team vibe rn heading into preseason. Need cohesion. Today is a new day though hopefully this was motivation. -
Panthers fans still hating on #1 is just sad. I do think Jones could surprise some people though. But in truth I hope that franchise suffers for awhile those fans deserve a poo sandwich.

Ten years of the same song will do that. -
Well that's the point of the discussion bc most people here don't want to see Sam turned into a human pretzel by November.

So basically the previous Seattle Seahawks approach which has led to discontent from their own franchise quarterback. Great! -

I get the frustration but at what point does some level of resentment seep in if we keep throwing our receivers under the bus? If the offense isn't looking good as a whole then pull them together if one part is failing the whole unit is failing let Sam be the glue and the leader and elevate the group. This is a young roster in need of leadership. -

Welp that's why you don't start buying too much hype in early August. Hopefully the shock of getting lit up by the great Sam Ehlinger will light a fire under our young defense -
Well we chose our path. I concur regarding the risks of first round quarterbacks but if Darnold flops which we hope he doesn't that's our prime option in 2022 if we want a franchise quarterback. The stakes only get higher from here on. For the moment we are not desperate but if the failures of other franchises around the league have shown that can change in a hurry. As of now we essentially drafted a 24 year old quarterback with our 2nd round pick next year. But the concern is this line and what that will do for Sam Darnold's development if he's got the defense in his face in an instant in passing situations. He's already been rattled with the Jets per his own remarks against the Patriots. Reading the recent tea leaves from camp his pass protection being a little sketchy seems like a definite possibility at least in the short term. We are basically in a position where if Sam fails to show the promise expected we have to bring in another arm and Will Grier and PJ Walker though good guys they don't fit the bill in that regard.

Having a franchise quarterback is more important than a corner. No offense to Jaycee I hope he is great but that is the reality in the modern NFL. If you don't have the centerpiece all else is moot. Any head coach or gm worth their salt will say the same if they value their job security. In our case the decision makers went all in on Darnold instead of a draft pick. We hope that was correct but make no mistake it is a big risk.

The closest thing to a must-win game in years?
frankw replied to top dawg's topic in Carolina Panthers
Don't think you can really compare this to other teams who have dropped the opener and gone on to be successful. First of all coming off back to back 5 win seasons. Second of all how many of those teams acquired the starting qb of the opponent who was previously the worst team in the league? This is not a standard opener. -

Must win indeed. If Carolina loses everyone on down to the waterboys deserve to be ridiculed into oblivion. Worse than the Jets is not an option.
