Probably a few but that's not new. Cam Newton had people who disliked him so much and wanted to be right about him being a bust they saw a silver lining in losing because it made him look bad. Sam will create plenty of fans if he gives them something to cheer for and makes this offense respectable again.

The Carolina Panthers have had two long term quarterbacks in 25 years. Folks being apprehensive about Darnold isn't surprising but you need to know the history to gain an understanding. One year isn't enough.

You weren't even a Panthers fan a year ago this time chill

As far as criticism of mgmt that's a bit of a slippery slope. If you want content slanted toward unanimous praise you may as well stick with the official Panthers social media pages.
-
It's a social media thing. Newton started his career here ten years ago and some people still like to get their digs in on him. There's even a recent thread from yesterday as an example of that. I agree he should move on though Teddy was only here one season any lingering animosity is just unhealthy. Some people take their affinity or dislike for one particular athlete to an extreme many of us as fans are guilty of it. Sports get too personal sometimes but fan is short for fanatic so it probably won't ever change.

What's the beef? Which player?
-
It's a self inflicted dilemma though. If you knew Sam was going to need this level of care you don't hinge your season on Cam Erving and you definitely don't keep toiling around with the oline in late August. The team has exacerbated an existing issue.

True. Whatever the future holds for the upcoming season it's probably safe to say though Erving isn't going to be the answer. For all my concerns I am emphatic about that the most. We need to decide who the LT is going to be like asap. It's becoming comical at this point. -
It's a move we had to make for the time being. Terry is clutch he brings veteran leadership and he has proven his importance to the team. Happy for him.

It's basically that but they need to pull it back the last this thing locker room needs is it carrying over into the regular season. Once the opener is here it's Darnold's job and his team as the QB1. The head coach can't be holding his hand like it's his first day at school -

Rhule has publicly criticized the receivers twice before this. I have seen no criticism or talk of Sam Darold needing to improve if anything I have read he is the least of our problems as if he has already earned a pass. We'll see how this plays out in another month. When the real games are played someone has to take the blame if things don't go according to plan which looking at the Panthers history is bound to happen at some point. This is a tough division. We'll talk about it in September.
-
They did who is arguing otherwise? So for you where do we go from here? When Sam was tossing a pick six in camp I was told it's just camp but now folks want to argue for pages about drops. Be consistent
-
I don't recall Newton ever blaming his receivers. Even when he got hurt in that game where Kelvin Benjamin gave up on the play. That's just how he was. We'll see how Sam does things when the games are actually played. But he has to get on the field first.
-
The receivers are the least of our worries. DJ is a stud and will soon be extended. We know what Anderson can do and Marshall has lots of potential. Then you have Shi Smith too. Any young quarterback would be thrilled with that. If Steve Smith Sr is even publicly saying Sam needs to be out there getting game reps I'll take his word for it.
-
So the receivers had a bad day. What's the quarterbacks job? Lead your group and get your offense in sync. But you can't build any continuity from the bench. This is the best overall receiving corps we have seen in years as far as pure potential. This isn't Legedu Nannee or Philly Brown or Brenton Bersin or Kaelin Clay. You can't praise them and talk them up when it's convenient and then throw them under several buses when it's time to protect your guys confidence because his completion percentage doesn't paint a rosy picture. Sam is inevitably going to have some bumps along the way but you have to let him get through that if he is to restore his career here. The clock is ticking.

It's a little late in the process to be realizing an oft injured lineman probably won't be able to be counted on for 17 games. Great that he's acknowledged a need but if we want a quality tackle it's going to take some serious draft capital to pull it off. Might wanna get that figured out with the opener coming up in less than a month. I guess all that talk about Moton on the left was just that. Giving the vibe of making it up as they go along. We'll see how it works out I'm hoping for the best.
-
In no way am I arguing the receivers are perfect or not in need of working on their craft. But when you bring in a quarterback and trade draft capital to do that at some point he has to take it upon himself and guide this young group some. Sam Darnold is supposed to be the guy. We can have this conversation now but we don't want to be having it next month. Sam needs to get reps in live game scenarios and they all need to work out the kinks together simple and plain.
-
Because he's a fourth year pro and was a highly touted prospect in the draft. This isn't some undrafted scrub.
-
Yeah the coddling has officially gotten out of hand. Darnold is unproven and needs to be a leader of men not treated like he's still in pampers. You can publicly trash your receivers only so many times before it has a negative effect on the locker room.

Carolina Panthers - Baltimore Ravens Joint Practice 1
frankw replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
I get that people want to look to the outlier that was the 2015 season as a comparison that anything can happen but that team had veteran leadership and a pretty close knit locker room. The young talent of this roster has the capability to reach that potential but this is not that team. The Panthers offense and secondary in particular need more reps together and saying so isn't saying they suck or they won't be good or that practice 100% defines a team. But why are we desperate to convince ourselves this does not matter at all when this franchise has had such little sustained success? Strive for more. This franchise has been bottom of the division two years running and they aren't going to reverse that by convincing themselves they don't need to put in work! -

I don't know why this needs to be said but we aren't a dynasty and have a history of coming out flat in games -

You stay up all night with a megaphone engaged in no less than three or four spats with different posters at any given time and skulk around different profiles of anyone you deem to be unfit. You have complained about namecalling yet you are the only one recently that I have seen come right out and call other fans assholes because they don't subscribe to your every thought as a fan. You are the biggest contributor to the issues here and if you can't or won't see it your life and your experience here will only spiral more. Just relax!
