Three years in the NFL versus zero. You guys are very argumentative. I'm saying there is a minimal difference in the odds of his success and that of a first round rookie.

This is the same discussion from ten years ago. The only difference now is people are choosing to believe things will be different for Darnold. Sam has slightly better odds than a rookie qb but the belief that he can turn his career around here still requires you to look past historical precedent.

What me or you may deem silly is irrelevant to whatever the front office is looking for. They have all but directly confirmed all options are on the table for the first round. Situationally I doubt we will have the opportunity to consider a quarterback if the top of the draft falls as expected. But if a quarterback or two is still sitting and waiting by the time our pick is up we both know due diligence dictates that will be under significant consideration.

There is no can't miss prospect that's the point. You're never one player away. But individual decisions absolutely have lasting impacts. Like say for instance imagine if we took Dareus 10 years ago like you wanted. What would the last decade have looked like? As it stands we are putting our hopes and prayers in Sam Darnold pulling a full 180 on his career. Does that not speak volumes to just how important the position has become that we are that desperate despite already having a 60 million dollar quarterback contract on the books that no one else wants? There is more than one way to build a roster but there is no dispute in what binds said roster together.

It seems the last few months of draft hype has created a disconnect in the reality of the expectations of a first round left tackle that has shifted to this mythical franchise trajectory altering prospect some fans have created in their heads. It would be nice if that player actually existed.

The quarterback was inconsistent at times but before the arm started to go we more often than not always had a shot at a win against any team in the league. And that was without a franchise left tackle. To me the biggest contributing factor in the lack of back to back winning seasons in that era was from the front office. We had a core still in place in 2016 to make another run and finish with another winning record at minimum. But we sabotaged ourselves. We also truthfully didn't fight enough on behalf of our signal caller because regardless of the void at left tackle there were numerous instances of headhunting at that time that went unaddressed and we basically threw our hands up and relented. But we cannot make that same mistake again and throw our hands up because we are afraid to take a quarterback if the opportunity arises. Especially if as you mentioned you are committed to finally ending the lack of consecutive winning seasons. The task of changing that situation in this current version of the NFL begins and ends with a franchise quarterback and there is no disputing that if your viewpoint is rooted in reality. Many of us hope that Sam Darnold can be that for us but to put all of our eggs in that basket without attempting to have a fallback plan knowing what we know after 25 years of existence would be foolish.

Thank you. This is a much more reasonable take than some of the other posts made about this. Nothing I can disagree with other than I have seen no one saying we should simply pay Moore whatever cost he demands. Of course we would not and should not do that. However the glaring reality is if he has another big season we will have to pay market value and some folks might have reservations about that which is understandable but if you want talent that is the way the NFL works now. He won't be the only tough contract decision either so we may be in store for some unpopular moves if we still find ourselves searching for an answer at quarterback this time next year. Let us hope things work more in our favor for a change this go round.

In his best season to date and five years younger Teddy threw one more touchdown than an aging Andy Dalton at the tail end of his career. At best you could call it a push and that would be honestly generous.

You guys can dunk on Andy Dalton if it makes you feel better but he's still an upgrade over two gloves as sad as that truth is.

To go along with your list of receivers you might as well add the quarterbacks who were throwing to them. Aaron Rodgers Kirk Cousins Kyler Murray Matt Ryan Drew Brees Tom Brady Dak Prescott Patrick Mahomes Justin Herbert Josh Allen Russell Wilson It's almost as if talented receivers thrive when they have franchise quarterbacks to pair with. Strange huh?

David only netted 500 yards in his best season with the team though. Moore has eclipsed 1100 yards in consecutive seasons with a one armed Cam Newton Kyle Allen Will Grier Teddy Bridgewater and a quarterback from the xfl. Am I saying throw him a blank check? No. But should we be declaring him possibly the next Kelvin Benjamin parking cars in a few years when he is entering his third season the same age as kb was as a rookie? Like many things it's somewhere in the middle but the upcoming season will give us the answers we seek.

He's always been a great teammate and professional about his craft. In regards to other running backs you don't see that much because fewer and fewer teams are building around the position or making one the face of their franchise. Hopefully the Panthers are the team to buck that trend but time and history are not on our side at the moment.

As a Panthers fan old enough to remember the days of folks declaring David Gettis the next goat I cannot understand why some want so badly to treat DJ Moore like the last kid picked at dodgeball or something. My god just appreciate what ya got!

Cap space is always a big deal for a team at the bottom of their division. And make no mistake about it that is exactly where we are and have been the last couple of years. Teddy not only didn't change that we were arguably worse off because we sunk over 100 million dollars in only three players last year and didn't move an inch toward improving our record in the nfc south. That is just awful.

I miss those early days of hope when he was bullying defensive backs. He is not without blame but he was hit with some awful circumstances in a short time. It is sad to see people continuing to pile on him for his physical appearance all these years later but they are just projecting like many do on social media now.

Butler had the tools he just didn't care to be great or have the tenacity to build a dominant prolonged career. Some guys come into the league looking to create a lifestyle and others want to cement their status in the history books. The timing of the pick couldn't have been worse but the misfires in free agency were ultimately the undoing of any chances the Panthers had at making a final run with that group.

Agonizing over the cost of moving on is akin to crying over spilt milk. It's already happened. This possible outcome was set in stone when he signed on the dotted line. We took a gamble. It didn't work out. The only thing to do now is what is best for the team and the overall trajectory of the upcoming season. If that means removing a possible distraction at a cost then so be it.

Was this ever not corny? We really need some swag on this team again.

In the back of my mind I expected this but signing Gordon was a move Charlotte had to make to establish some semblance of legitimacy. Who else wants to come play here?

The more clowns like Cowherd try and talk up Sam Darnold the more I hope we snag another quarterback in the draft for insurance.

Higly coveted college quarterback projected number one overall talks about life after football before his name has been called in the draft and is praised for his values and no one questions what ill intentions may be hiding behind his smile. Trevor Lawrence is certainly blessed with something.

Only wallet clutching cheapskates on the huddle are afraid of taking a quarterback. Fitterer has already said we could move up or trade back depending on scenarios. It all hinges on if the 49ers are crazy enough to take Jones at 3.

No team wants Teddy with that awful contract no matter how many homer Panthers fans around here tell themselves it isn't that bad. We swooped in and outbid ourselves with a deal Bridgewater couldn't sign fast enough. Very shades of 2010. He will be cut and we will eat a chunk of salary cap we could have used beefing up the offensive line.

It was a legitimate complaint but the fact we had a franchise quarterback was the piece that held it all together whether we had a consistent left tackle or not. Do we go 15-1 and appear in super bowl 50 if we took Marcell Dareus instead of a signal caller like many wanted? People are hung up on left tackle because it's been so long since Gross and think we can plug one in and we are done but within the next twelve months we still need a center and there are no guarantees we workout a long term deal with Taylor Moton. No matter which angle you look at this from the offensive line is far from being complete if that even happens because things don't often go according to plan in sports and injuries happen too.

So no different than the guy before him then or the guy before that? Winning seems to be the cure all while losing only brings uncomfortable questions and fan anger. Go figure. Who knew right?
