Dave Canales Panthers are 3-6 following a win
frankw replied to electro's horse's topic in Carolina Panthers
I was quite critical of Ron Rivera's game day coaching decisions and management over his years here. Especially when he coached super conservative playing not to lose. But at the end of the day he never had to try and win with a Bryce Young. John Fox had to try and win with a Bryce Young and he completely checked out and got himself fired. The only. Only solution right now. Is to remove the anchor around our necks from the equation and move forward however we can and assess all the moving parts with the time we have left so we can move forward accordingly in the offseason. Not doing so is only going to further delay evaluating what we have in this young roster and this staff led by Canales. -
I cannot say enough how much the FO disgusts me. That we are to the point where we have paid this kid $39 million given up substantial capital to acquire him built the most expensive OL in the league to give him a chance to succeed. Drafted back to back first round WR's. And here we are essentially beating around the bush at best and acting as if we cannot see what is plain as day to everyone else. Dan Morgan should be ashamed of himself. The Tepper's are horrible out of touch people but Morgan should be better than this.

I'm not a fan of Schlereth but unfortunately he is completely correct. I'm legitimately surprised he was this candid about it. The tide seems to be turning in the media. And yet. The Panthers continue to come up with excuses. Incredible.

The answer is simple and there for anyone who has actually been realistically assessing the situation from the jump. So look you have to start at the beginning. Bryce Young in college made plays yes. But he also played for Alabama under the modern GOAT coach. And even there when they were destroying smaller schools ultimately Bryce Young did not establish a consistent and successful deep passing game. Between him Tua and Mac Jones he had a drastically inferior deep ball. Fast forward to the NFL. He's had some nice throws here and there virtually all of them have been within the intermediate range. But he has not at any point showcased an ability to consistently go deep let alone become one of the better QB's at it which should be expected for his draft slot. And even those games at the end of last year his best game was against Atlanta where he did most of his work with his legs and he actually had several rushing touchdowns in that stretch of games. All of which opened a door for me IMO to question the sustainability of it. We drafted him to be a passer. We need him to win as a passer and more often than not that is what is going to be required of him. Now here we are reaching the midway point of his third season and he is now at 39 or 40 games and there are people who supposedly have functioning brains that are acting as if Canales is the one intentionally eliminating half the field. Yes he deserves criticism for different things but come on. We said all these things about Frank Reich too. Once you get to coaching staff number two it's time to say okay if it looks like a duck quacks like a duck and walks like a duck. It's a motherfưcking duck alright? The worst thing the Panthers staff and FO can do is continue going around like Helen fưcking Keller acting as if acknowledging the elephant in the room which is the reality that Bryce Young is not a franchise QB and not the answer and never will be will end in the universe swallowing itself and ending humanity. Nut up swallow that lump in your throat and put one foot in front of the other.

Nextgen stats insight saints panthers
frankw replied to raleigh-panther's topic in Carolina Panthers
I agree with you. We'll see. But I have a hard time believing Morgan has been not sold on Bryce Young this whole time and is doing strictly what Tepper says because his actions say otherwise. We know the Tepper's meddle heavily but the things Morgan has said directly about Bryce Young do not sound like a man who was steadfastly against drafting him. -

100% The perception of Morgan is all too similar to that of Fitterer early on. You couldn't suggest he was simply just maybe not great at his job or the knives would come out. -
To a degree you have a point but with divisional matchups if the franchise is going to turn the corner this should never happen. Especially with our most bitter rival at home.
-
It's unfortunate but this is the bind you put yourself in when you've sat on your hands regarding your QB depth as long as we have. At least people have seen the light and recognize this negligence for what it is now.

If Dan Morgan isn't already facing the music by now he can head on out the door with Bryce Young too.

Best and worst PFF grades from Panthers' Week 10 loss to Saints
frankw replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
Even PFF has taken the gloves off with Bryce Young. Good to see TMac Icky Coker and Scourton doing their part. I did not expect Jaycee Horn to get lit up so badly by the lowly Saints. Sobering. -
Where does Bryce rank on the all-time draft bust list?
frankw replied to MRenshaw's topic in Carolina Panthers
As far as the biggest bust there are other candidates who would undoubtedly garner heavy consideration and likely the spot. He is however beyond a shadow of a doubt easily one of the worst 5-10 draft picks of all time. Has nothing to do with being a Panthers fan or not. It's also worth noting the fact that the Panthers have given him 40 games skews things to a degree as well. He's been given way way more opportunities than other busts have to soften the blow and stat pad. That must also be acknowledged. -
Yeah we discussed it at the time. It's just impossible right now to make any firm determination. We know Legette is a project but it's also to the point where now even TMac has begun to be relegated to scapegoat at times. I just don't see this situation lasting through the rest of the season without an eventual boil over. Sooner or later guys are going to air out their frustrations.

Dave Canales constantly deflecting for poor to horrific QB play is like nails on a chalk board at this point. We need to begin addressing the issues head on instead of our head coach constantly trying to be the constructive dad like Ned Flanders. This nonsense is not going to change the culture of the team for the better. The only inevitable outcome is other players are going to eventually just check out and start making business decisions. Embrace accountability and if need be when the time comes which is now that you have a QB who is FORTY games deep and is abundantly clearly the problem then identify it and stop making lame ass excuses. No. More. Coddling.

XL has without a doubt had his share of bad moments. But you cannot understate how awful many of these passes are and even the ones that have been better have often been poorly placed. Throws to the sideline and throws to the back of the end zone are basically off the table as passes just sail over the receivers head. Defenses have all of this on tape. It makes their job easier. Until we get an adequate passer in here who can open the entire field we cannot fully evaluate the moving parts of this offense.

They are unfortunately all too comparable. It is what it is.

You can fire him. You could justify it too. But odds are highly likely we won't find anyone any much if at all better or less of a yes man as his replacement. In fact that is going to be the entire coaching candidate pool.

Bryce's Achilles Heel Is Not What You Think It Is

This thread has aged like wine -
Might as well take a stroll down memory lane.

The WR room has question marks but we really need to see this group with better QB play.
-
I would like to be able to say I have the confidence that our decision makers enact and carry out such a plan going forward. I need to see it to believe it at this point after three straight years of coddling the smallest starting QB in the NFL.

Win one damn road game by the skin of their teeth AFTER a top to bottom drubbing at home and suddenly it's time to relax. That is the Carolina Panthers to the tee.

It's pretty fưcking bad when Scott Fitterer did infinitely more to bring in legitimate competition into the QB room than Dan Morgan has done in nearly two full years.
