Other games 11/17, got some good ones today
frankw replied to LinvilleGorge's topic in Carolina Panthers
Looks like Eberflus is cooked. Sounds like Thomas Brown is getting some shine from the local media in his first game as OC there though. I'll be interested to see how that plays out the rest of the season. It helps to have a QB that actually has physical tools to speak of. -
It always amazes me when someone barrels in and acts like only one player lost that Super Bowl. We had a stacked team. Generational players on both sides of the ball in Cam Newton and Luke Kuechly. Yet it was Kony Ealy that could have been the MVP of the game if he had made just a few more plays and kept his head on straight at the end. But he was one of the few guys that didn't look like a deer in the headlights in the second half. It's hard for some Panthers fans to admit their favorite players from the best Panthers team in history collectively let that one slip away. Ron Rivera damn sure didn't help much either.

Hard to forget those blowout losses against the Bears and Commanders. Call me cynical but barely defeating the Saints and Giants with laughably low passing output isn't convincing. Talk to me after the Chiefs game. I need to see Canales team hang with them at home. If we get the doors blown off let em' have it.

Some people here were clamoring to pay this guy over 20 million a season... -
Carolina may not "be sold" on young (per athletic)
frankw replied to Champagnepapi704's topic in Carolina Panthers
You're blaming Jaycee Horn because we gutted the defense to reallocate significant resources to the offense in order to attempt to make Bryce Young look like a real QB? -
It's hard out here I'll gladly take a dub over the Bucks.
-
The Paul brothers are very good at grifting that's about it.. Zero redeeming qualities from either. Clout chasers. This was a sham. At least Mike got him a quick $20 million even if it meant embarrassing himself in front of millions of people and letting these dweebs clown on him like he's their son.

I agree on Ward. But at this point it is a nonstarter to consider keeping Dalton. He has been only marginally better than Bryce Young and those two stinkers against the Bears and Commanders are why we were one of the only teams to seek out his services. Need to look elsewhere. -
Prime WILL NOT Let Shedeur Or Hunter Go To A Sh*tshow Organization
frankw replied to 45catfan's topic in Carolina Panthers
I don't think it would actually happen. The only thing the two of them need to be concerned about is how quickly the league humbles him and if he can mature beyond this entitled persona that leads to him publicly bashing his offensive linemen. That will not last long in the NFL regardless of where he ends up. -

That's perfectly fine. I agree. Also to preface all this I want to be clear that I want him to succeed. That doesn't mean that there has to be any going out of my way to tell myself he did or didn't like this or that move when he worked with Fitterer though. The only people that know worked with them. And no one is going to talk anytime soon. All that matters is what Dan does in the upcoming draft. He needs to nail it. No pressure. -

Morgan was not his glorified secretary he was the assistant GM. He also kept the draft scouts basically entirely intact. If he were steadfast against some of the things Fitterer was doing in relation to the draft in particular he would have cleaned house from the go. If you want to take the glass half full perspective on it that's perfectly fine but let's not bs one another on this if one of our rivals fired their worst GM in franchise history just to turn around and replace him with his right hand man you'd be cracking jokes. The reason Morgan gets the benefit of the doubt is former Panther status. That's fine but it doesn't change what he was part of these last few years. Nothing wrong with acknowledging that. -

Morgan and Fitterer were best friends. Any assumption that they were remotely at odds over Bryce Young is only one that can be made out of copium at this point. -

I agree he's young enough and he has the prerequisite traits and talent you need to try to shape a franchise QB out of him. The issue is I'm just not sold this is the place to fix him. Until proven otherwise I'm not seeing Canales as the QB whisperer of sorts that he was billed as when we hired him. He had input along with Morgan on this QB room in the offseason. They chose to back themselves into this corner. And we currently sit 29th in the league in passing yards per game and 28th in points per game. For comparison sake: 2023: Passing yards per game - 161.2 Points per game - 13.9 2024: Passing yards per game - 170.7 Points per game - 16.7 For all the talk about how bad Reich and his staff were that's really not encouraging. To have invested what we did in the offensive line in one offseason we really need to see better results than this through the remainder of the season under Canales. -

It's obvious to anyone with eyes who isn't engaging in self deception for whatever reason. I don't think Fields is a good idea though. There will be other options. Sign one of the younger veterans and draft a QB to let him sit. We aren't going to be competing for some time anyways it's all about development and trending upward while we rebuild. -
Imagine what they'd look like with a real QB.
-
They gave up 434 yards of offense 26 points and an L last night to a very up and down Eagles team.
-
What specifically is there to tamper with if he is not under contract with any team and hasn't played in now three years? And the last team he was under contract with was us. All of this is silly. Either the team wants him around or they don't. The onus shouldn't just be on him. Particularly considering he is not the one who turned his back. Ultimately it reads like the powers that be don't want to be publicly reminded of how hilariously awful they have been at piecing together any remote semblance of success since they released him. The Panthers front office don't pay anyone's bills here. We can acknowledge what's what.
-
Cam being a part of the sports talk media world now does have some level of impact on the situation. But that can't be used as an excuse. There's been an unspoken uneasiness since that offseason that led up to us releasing him. Regardless. You need to honor his legacy. I remember hearing about this photo situation a long time ago. Whether officially retired or not if they really don't have any photos of him in the stadium that's pathetic. No excuse for that. And I think that to a degree Tepper does not respond well to Cam's personality as a whole. This can be confirmed by how we mishandled that entire fiasco when he was released. And it is because of that IMO that Tepper sought the more quiet keep your head down type of QB in Bryce Young instead of CJ Stroud who is outwardly confident. How'd that work out for us?

Can something be done about this referee bias against the Panthers?
frankw replied to Shocker's topic in Carolina Panthers
I totally get the sentiment. It's been blatantly obvious for years now. But if we could actually do something about it in some parallel universe where that's possible then while we were at it the Tepper's would be forced to sell and we would not be stuck with Bryce Young. Unfortunately there's no magic wand for life. It'd be nice though. -

Joe Person: Andy Dalton will 'get another crack' as starting QB
frankw replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
Joe Person isn't exactly going out on a limb with this speculation. It really doesn't even matter anyways. We're relegated to picking between the equivalent of one of two turds thanks to the decision makers. Just play one of them and let it ride. -
On his part it seems like such an obvious win/win optics move. But at this point in time after all the public discussion about it even from some of his own players it's pretty clear he just doesn't care and won't be swayed.
