Give me a reason to be excited about the future of this team
frankw replied to TN05's topic in Carolina Panthers
Some great replies around here wish I wasn't out of pie. Tepper is ultimately the problem. -
But Drew Brees but Doug Flutie

I don't really care about the lining up behind the RG moment in the grand scheme of things with all that's going on. But people really should have pumped the brakes on all the hype about how unique he was in his preparation and knowledge of the game like he had the brain of a veteran Peyton Manning heading into the season. The hype was created by some of the very people trying to move the goal posts and now sell this story about how he's an overmatched rookie. Also the same people basically told us CJ Stroud had a brick for a brain. This is what some of us were trying to tell you back before and immediately following the draft about what would happen if we select him and the uphill climb he faced even with his so called "elite" processing ability. Now everything has changed. Go figure.

Summary of his analysis about the Panthers since going official:
-
Andy Dalton is truly awful. He is not a bridge QB and that was never going to be the case after what we gave up for Bryce Young.

Panthers' Offense: Some Core Concerns Surfacing Early
frankw replied to Bear Hands's topic in Carolina Panthers
My friend it's the Panthers. I put the odds of that ultimately being the end result at 70%. Typically what you see is what you get especially when we look utterly inept and not just rusty. I'll be here regardless laughing at the suckage if such is this case. Humor and trolling is all we have left. I'm embracing it. -
Derrick Brown going after Mike Thomas after the game

Respect to Derrick Brown we need more players on this roster fired up. -
Panthers' Offense: Some Core Concerns Surfacing Early
frankw replied to Bear Hands's topic in Carolina Panthers
So in a month the narrative has shifted from "it's only preseason it doesn't matter they don't want to give anything away" to "it's only week 2 they haven't opened up the playbook yet"? There's something very familiar about all this.. -
I understand where you are coming from as a Panthers fan wanting to look for silver linings. That's all we've had for almost 3 decades now. But we hung in both games because of our defense just to be clear. Remove Brian Burns Derrick Brown and Frankie Luvu and it's a blowout both games. That's how putrid our offense is. That is not all on our QB either. The staff is not living up to all the offseason fluff. Further than that though the front office needs to be on notice. We change coaches we change QB's but some of the same issues remain.

Lawrence's career YPA is 6.5 while Bryce Young's first two starts are amongst the lowest YPA averages of any starter recorded. Nobody said the only concern were the number of yards he threw for. It's one piece of the puzzle. His physical traits and arm strength have been a question and concern all along but it was an issue that was consistently shouted down by fans like yourself who are once again trying to silence dissent. It's boring. Go start your own message board if that's the conversation you seek.
-
Scott Fitterer is awful at roster building. The Seahawks are doing great since he left and that's after swapping Wilson with Geno Smith.
-
Lawrence and Young do not belong in the same conversation the arm strength between the two are in different universes. Trevor has the elite arm traits. That's the bridge you want to ignore between Lawrence throwing what he did and Young. Some of the throws I saw Young make last night were reminiscent of the likes of Clausen. It's okay to admit that. I can still be a Panthers fan and not be a drone that never says anything negative.
-
You could link Young with any number of former or current QB's based on that criteria it doesn't amount to a hill of beans. He's an outlier amongst outliers himself. You are in your feels coping and lashing out. That's fine. I'll agree to disagree.
-
Are any of them 5'10 with questionable arm strength? You folks search and search and search for outliers to fit your narratives and feed your feels you did the same thing with Sam Darnold. Stop coddling the kid and comparing him to good or elite QB's until he proves he can even hang with the Falcons or Saints who are without Matt Ryan and Drew Brees. Have some standards for goodness sake.
-
I can't say Jimmy Clausen our worst starting QB in 27 years is the only bar to exceed but you can compare Young to Lawrence and whoever else. You aren't seeking intelligent conversation you are seeking an echo chamber. Sorry this isn't that.
-
*Announcer voice* "And now it looks like the Panthers are taking their #1 pick off the field and bringing out Andy Dalton on 4th and short"
-
The sad thing is Ron Rivera would still be an upgrade over our head coach. Let that sink in.
-
I recommend not mistaking your obvious coping mechanism for intelligent conversation. Enjoy your day my friend 🫡
-
Drew Brees Josh Allen Trevor Lawrence do you not see that you folks are just aimlessly throwing out names hoping something sticks so you can comfort yourself?
-
My guy Jimmy Clausen is the only bar I expect any Panthers QB to surpass. That is not an unreasonable expectation.
-
Less than 100 yards passing for almost an entire game is abysmal. No he isn't a sure fire bust and we cannot write him off but at the same time some of ya'll need to just admit your standards have sunken below the earth's crust. We didn't draft this kid in the mid rounds. We traded a haul to select him.
-
I think Young has the right mental make up to become a starter in this league. But the physical limitations that were often talked about pre-draft but shouted down by people who latched onto him by leading with their emotion are going to be very challenging to overcome. I know we've disagreed on different things over the course of Panthers fandom. But I hope you can agree there's a legitimate level of concern there. I mean we really took our #1 pick off the field multiple times in favor of Andy Dalton to move the sticks in short yardage. If we weren't Panthers fans we would be laughing our asses off.
-
Reich looks to be the offensive equivalent of Ron Rivera. We won't see Gerry Green (formerly known as iamhubby1) until we get a win and he'll act like he's been here all along and not on a milk carton when it happens I've let the Cam thing go. He was once in a generation. The Colts tried to draft a QB and use him the same way it didn't even last two games. We won't see another Cam for a very long time. It's best to turn the page and not live in the past.
-
I like Ellis but we don't need more mindless drones parroting the Panthers front office and the Tepper's.
-
I hear ya. I'm just trying to think about possibly salvaging the trade package we gave up. At the end of the day as a fan I am just not sure we will ever see consistent success under this ownership. Hell we can't even get one winning season. But that's where the buck stops. It's been one trainwreck to the next.
