RB Coach Duce Staley and QB Coach Josh McCown fired
frankw replied to jamos14's topic in Carolina Panthers
I see folks have taken to shitting on McCown now after fawning over his breakdown videos many months ago. Maybe he was the wrong choice. Maybe we shouldn't have hired a QB coach with no previous experience doing so. Or maybe the QB coach doesn't matter as much as ya'll think and you still need a player with the necessary traits to make the jump to the next level. Below is CJ Stroud's QB coach. Anyone going to tell me he has significantly more experience than McCown? https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jerrod_Johnson -
Greg Olsen says he is interested in Panthers HC Job
frankw replied to usmcpanthers's topic in Carolina Panthers
I am a BIG fan of all things Greg Olsen but no this is not a good idea. -
To say the cupboards are bare is a severe understatement. 2 out of our 3 top defensive players were drafted by Hurney. On offense we traded away a top 10 WR also drafted by Hurney. Scott Fitterer must go!

You're talking about the same David Tepper who spoke confidently just earlier this year about not needing to invest a great deal of money or draft capital in the WR position because our rookie QB was so good at distributing the ball. If you believe this catastrophe is going to make David Tepper make a complete 180 in his approach to business that he has maintained throughout his adult life more power to you. I'd like to see it myself. I don't expect it to happen though.

It's long spilled milk. Best to let go and move on. We need to invest huge in our oline now. If we get that situated then from there we can establish a reasonably formidable run game with any decent running back and assess our QB situation.

Nothing against CMC personally but you can't call someone a star player and then shelve them with an 18 million dollar cap hit and still be a competive franchise. We should have gotten a better return value for him but CMC would not be saving our season here anyway. No one would even be talking about this still if we had drafted CJ Stroud.

Nothing to hide. You'll find me being quite angry about trading DJ Moore. Didn't think it was a good idea but tried to make sense of it by finding solace in the fact we would be drafting a QB who had what I thought was similar arm talent to Cam Newton in a kid by the name of CJ Stroud. Of course we passed on him.
-
His mom basically said so in an interview post trade. They wanted him on the west coast. Is it a coincidence suddenly he's not perpetually banged up anymore?
-
@TrevorLaurenceTime22 you swore off this team and this board when we traded CMC you are welcome to see yourself right back on out the door
-
Do you own a 49ers McCaffrey jersey?
-
Not losing sleep over McCaffrey. We don't have the 49ers offensive line or a coach like Kyle Shanahan. The bigger blunder is trading a top 10 WR in his prime by the name of DJ Moore.

I can agree with the first half of your post. Coaching OL and our receivers have at times let us down through the season. We can acknowledge that and also admit that Bryce Young has not looked the part compared to the other QB's from this class. Can that change? Sure. Do I want him to be a bust? Hell no I don't want to see us set back at least 2-3 more years. On the Cam talk. We should not even connect the two right now there is simply no comparison. Cam Newton was a physical monster and came into the NFL a national champion and was rookie of the year in a lockout year where most fans here didn't think he would be able to grasp the playbook. Some of the same things said about him were said about CJ Stroud and both QB's clearly used that as motivation and went to work accordingly by setting NFL records. Most people here want the same thing save for a few that probably want the team to be poo but there are people like that anywhere. Now that we have fired Bryce Young's first head coach and QB coach in his first 11 games I think we should dispense with the hand wringing and coddling like we're his mommy and daddy. He's offically heading into coaching staff #2. We need to see some indisputable first overall pick play at some point in these remaining games regardless of the circumstances. If anyone doesn't feel that's fair well tough titty that's the NFL. I'm hoping Bryce responds to all this with some tenacity and fire in his belly and that's what I expect to see on Sunday.

Well we haven't been to the playoffs since 2017 we haven't won the division since 2015 and we own the worst record in all of sports since 2019. I can agree this place is toxic to a degree but what else do you expect? I'd rather converse with realists and some trolls than unhinged optimists that just want to shine shoes for the front office. We'll see how it goes next year.

It's coping because you and others have made it a weekly mission to tell us how terrible every single player on offense not named Bryce Young has been while acting as if the Texans assembled a Super Bowl team around Stroud. Yes the Texans did a better job than we did but CJ is elevating his offense around him and being a leader. No one can know what impact he would have here with this supporting cast. But I can tell you his arm talent would absolutely have to be accounted for by any defense we face. They would be playing us differently for sure despite our circumstances.
-
I feel like we'll know something one way or another eventually. People acting like they know for sure this or that are going to end up with egg on their face. Everyone saw the Tepper's swooping in and taking over Bryce Young's proday while barely mustering a hand wave at Stroud's. They made it quite obvious.

Urban got himself fired for being a general douchebag and a cooze hound in public despite being married. His rookie QB did not get him fired. The coping here is simply out of control.

RB Coach Duce Staley and QB Coach Josh McCown fired
frankw replied to jamos14's topic in Carolina Panthers
McCown gone already? So much for having conviction. So were they actually fired or did they basically say they no longer wanted any part of this? I'm getting the vibe we are going to hear some things in the coming months about how the Bryce Young selection went down and it won't be pretty.- 233 replies

Our highest offensive output of the season is still from Andy Dalton with the same supporting cast.
-
I had hope of this many months back before the Tepper's took over Bryce Young's proday and overshadowed Fitterer and Reich. Now? They are one and the same. I would be completely shocked if she bit the hand that gifted her said executive role.
-
The OL is terrible. Icky has been a disappointment in particular. But I feel like if he could definitively make every throw we wouldn't be seeing so many pick sixes and errant airballs out of bounds.
-
I'll be very interested to see if Reich fades into obscurity and takes all the things he knows with him or if he eventually pulls back the curtain some.
-
I absolutely will commend him on his toughness. There is concern about arm strength. I mean we've been talking about his issues with the deep ball going back to his pro day. Back in training camp at fan fest between him Dalton and Corral he was by a significant margin the worst in deep throw drills. We chalked it up to chemistry and new offense. Beyond that his movements within the pocket and footwork are a big concern. He has become accustomed to habits that help give him time to see the field. Even then when those work to plan he has that odd hop with some of his throws. I have to be completely honest there were throws yesterday that Levis made that I simply cannot see Bryce Young making. That's what he's going to have to prove at this level. All we can do from here is wonder how much of the struggles of the OL are contributing. But if we have to surround him with a stellar supporting cast from top to bottom we lost that trade big time. You make a move like we did for a QB who will elevate their surroundings. I've seen nothing that would qualify.

Scouts and GM's are wrong about prospects just the same as casual fans like us don't get it twisted. There are constantly openings for a reason.
