"Only one year of coordinator experience"
frankw replied to UNCrules2187's topic in Carolina Panthers
I get the point you are attempting to make. This an egregious comparison though. Geno Smith is...Geno Smith. Baker Mayfield? We already know. These guys can't hold prime Cam Newton's jockstrap. Winning playoff games with them is at minimum impressive. It does not mean he will be successful though and I agree with that. What will make him successful is if Dan Morgan is the talent evaluator we are hoping him to be. -
I won't laugh at them too much I didn't think Ryans would be as successful as he has been in Houston. Who knows how things could go for Morris. But the folks here looking over a ledge over our hire should appreciate that it could be worse.

Does Canales mean we go hard after Mike Evans?
frankw replied to TheBigKat's topic in Carolina Panthers
I'd love to have him but he's 30 and I have no idea why he would want to be here other than the connection to Canales and if we throw a small fortune at him. -
Bryce Young.

She did her victory lap when we drafted Bryce because she had the inside info then went missing when he got everyone fired. That being said I still hope she's right.

David, hi, some questions about this hire
frankw replied to electro's horse's topic in Carolina Panthers
I appreciate the sentiment but he doesn't give a damn he considers any fans that criticize him as nothing more than basement dwellers. But even a shīthead like him could get something right eventually. Who knows. -
We've all seen the posts I mean you have over 100 thousand of them lol. If you want to revise history that's your prerogative.

Clearly you're very bored if you're actually arguing with me in that. Have a good day bud!

I don't think we're on the same wavelength here. People weren't simply patient with Fitterer some practically worshipped him and that was from the beginning. It was Dave Gettleman all over again. Turns out he was actually worse. Morgan I'm unsure about in this. He is going to be the X factor that determines Canales future here. He has been involved in some sketchy decisions and all we're left with is to wonder how much he liked or didn't like but had no control over. If we continue to draft the way we have then Canales or anyone else would be doomed. Anywho you can be pessimistic and still give the new head coach a singular season. If someone chooses the bitter route I don't blame them. But at least be upfront about it. Thanks for the chat.

What's not to follow? Fitterer received far more benefit of the doubt and much longer than he should have. Even when we first hired him people were on his jock. Canales could either fizzle out or bring us back to relevance. Such is the gamble with a coordinator turned first time head coach. I'll at least give him a season or two to show me something.
-
I understand and share this sentiment. Of course if the largest concern is whether or not he will tell Tepper to kick rocks we could have said the same thing about any of the other coordinators and basically anyone not named Harbaugh Vrabel or Belichick. The hope at this point is it is Dan Morgan steering this hire. We'll see.
-
On one hand it gives you pause. On the other hand he was in the playoffs and won one game while nearly pulling off another with that same offense. At the bare minimum that's what we are looking for.
-
Brother all we gave him was time and each time we were worse off for it. All his wheeling and dealing only amounted to the darkest days in the history of our franchise. If you gave him the benefit of the doubt and tons of rope there's no reason to not at least give Canales a season to show us something.
-
You shined Scott Fitterer's shoes more than anyone else in the Carolinas. There's no reason you can't be at least optimistic we didn't hire a retread. As always Tepper and his wife are the wildcard here. No argument.

"Only one year of coordinator experience"
frankw replied to UNCrules2187's topic in Carolina Panthers
I mean you could be right but we did just fire a coach with plenty of experience in Reich. Don't jump off a cliff man. -
I think you need a middle ground option between love it and indifferent. I like the hire and I feel optimistic and think he can do good things here if Morgan is the right guy and the Tepper's can quit meddling so much. I'm glad we went this route instead of a retread. That's my main takeaway.

I get where you're coming from and totally get the apprehension about any hires made under Tepper. But the angle that because no one else had significant interest as reasoning for why you think the hire is DOA is really pointless. It wouldn't be the first time teams missed out on a good coaching candidate and on the flip side if he fails it will be one more name to the pile. The main thing is we didn't go the retread route. From here each of us can choose to be glass half full or glass half empty. I don't blame anyone for either approach.
-
Monken is only a few years younger than Reich and won't have an MVP candidate at QB. Why does his name keep coming up?
-
If Mr. Scot has concerns after all his carrying water for Scott Fitterer then I'm sold.
-
Anytime you hire a first time head coach it's boom or bust. But we had to make this fresh start gamble. Another retread just wasn't going to cut it. I have a lot of hope for Canales. We'll see how it shakes out.
-
This is where I'm at as well. Vrabel is a capable head coach and I think the Titans did him dirty but it is probably best for us to just have a fresh restart altogether.

I would be fine with Canales idk why you guys are suddenly worried about who is or isn't interested. Matt Rhule was a hot name and had interest from multiple teams. Let's not get carried away with the theatrics here.
