Where would the Panthers be if they sat Bryce Young last season?
frankw replied to hepcat's topic in Carolina Panthers
Cam then is not Cam now. Cam now is fully embracing being another media talking head. The hot take brand of sports talk. I'm all for it because I enjoy him. But that's not for everyone and it's not breaking the mold either. But when Cam said what he said about Bryce and didn't say anything about CJ was before this new foray into media that he's in. It's fine to be wrong. There were a lot of people here wrong. They showed their ass about the pick and now some of them are either rambling about haters or they have gone missing. Where we go from here is what we've talked about adnauseum. Bryce either shows something to justify why he was the first pick or it's next man up in 2025. But whether it's Cam or whomever. My personal opinion is if you weren't saying it 12 months ago I don't wanna hear it now. We'll just agree to disagree. -

Yes he spoke up and maintained the same (let's be honest here) drone take as anyone else in mainstream media that didn't want to go against an Alabama QB. But it was perfectly fine to drag Stroud through the mud even though he did everything asked of him throughout the process. Some of the ignorant assumptions being made and thrown at CJ Stroud were also similar to what was thrown at Cam Newton before his draft. Again. Cam had the opportunity to speak up. He didn't. That's all there is to it. Anything said now is just a flip flop IMO. -

I'm gonna have to say it. Now let me make it crystal clear I was for years and remain a very vocal supporter of Cam Newton. I will forever be thankful to him for what he did for the soul and culture of this franchise in his best years. He brought us life and purpose. But moving onto the Bryce Young situation. I just felt absolutely zero pushback or even a hint or a simple suggestion from him or Steve Smith Sr of "Hey Panthers maybe CJ Stroud is getting a raw deal in the media take another look let's be real sure before making this decision". But no. Nothing. Nada. Zilch. Now that he's got a YouTube channel he's got everything to say? Brother you should have spoke up a year ago. Your words carry weight. I still love him and Steve. It's just disappointing that's all I can say. They didn't make the pick it wasn't their call at the end of the day but they could have said something in defense of CJ. This after the fact mess isn't it. That's all I've got to say. -
31 out of 32. I wish I could argue with it. I really do. Meanwhile people really log on here and waste keystrokes talking about haters lol. Nowhere to go but up!

Welcome Charles Lee to Charlotte. He's the Hornets' new coach
frankw replied to jayboogieman's topic in Charlotte Hornets
I like him. Brings plenty of experience and he's young. His comments about the roster and particularly competitiveness are a welcome addition. "I see a group that just plays with a lot of energy, a lot of passion. I think that on the defensive end we have to create an identity of who we want to be. I think on the offensive end, continuing to play with pace, play together, play with the pass, and also try to give us a little identity on that side of the ball too. The biggest thing it's going to come down to I think, is how competitive are we going to be? That's a mental competitiveness, a physical competitiveness, and then also the component of how much are we going to do this for one another." https://www.si.com/nba/hornets/news/charles-lee-praises-charlotte-s-young-core-in-first-hornets-interview-01hxfaj13em3 -

JJ was a splash hire some understandably wanted us to make. I would have been on board with it. But it was going to be a dicey pairing given everything going on with this franchise and the need particularly for someone to come in and clean up not only the pitiful culture but reign in some of the young roster that is prone to distractions. That would have either gone very well or very bad with JJ you have to be realistic about that. This isn't a hire that is going to wow people but who knows it could be what we need. I'll give him a chance. I also want to see the contract details and how much we gave him. -

If our offense and the general team vibe is dogwater in preseason again we should all bring out the torches. -

If you're getting burned out from eviscerating each other over Bryce Young come on over to the Hornets section and talk some poo there. 985f79a7-9ef7-4dc5-9a8f-87afdbbfee36.mp4 -
Damn. If that's true about Atkinson and trying to force assistants on him that alters my view of him some. Still a dick move what he did but we played ourselves. But that ties into what we've already known about this franchise under Jordan. We didn't want to pay a coach what he's worth. It's crazy because it's such a 180 from the Panthers who will pay anything and still suck. But at least Tepper is willing to open the piggy bank. If these two guys who are the new owners continue with this way of operating we are pretty much doomed.

Per Cam Newton, Kirk Cousins has six 6️⃣ games to prove himself
frankw replied to Green-Ghost's topic in Carolina Panthers
Kirk Cousins can go fug himself. I can't wait to see him throw some passes short of the sticks while the game is on the line with the Falcons. -
Not worried about history with numbers. Funchess like KB could have been a very solid receiver at minimum. They didn't want it. Legette seems hungry. Just get this man the ball and let him work. On another note. It is good to see a TE with legit receiving potential with a jersey number in the 80's again.

BREAKING: Panthers signing Rashad Penny
frankw replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
Much has been said about ACL injuries out of college basically being NBD. You still have to be extra cautious given your investment we didn’t take a late round flier on Brooks we drafted him high. This is the drawback. We can easily pickup another back or two after cuts. But this talk of carrying 5 RB's like we're playing 90's football is not helping my confidence in the passing offense for 2024. -
My thing is. I distinctly remember games where even despite our OL woes we were running the ball well enough. But the passing game was abysmal. Yes we gave up a lot of sacks but we still left many passing plays and opportunities on the field. Let's hope Canales has some solid plans to restore a balanced offense.

BREAKING: Panthers signing Rashad Penny
frankw replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
He's 28 so sounds like a stopgap while the rookie we drafted rehabs and gets up to game speed. Certainly don't want to rush that. Penny was a pretty decent fantasy get in a pinch last year. He can produce but he's missed some time. Is he better than Sanders? Probably. We certainly seem to be very committed to a strong running game. Good thing to have for any QB. But if we are going to start scoring points we have to sling the rock when it counts too. -
To the Panthers the combine didn't matter apparently they already had their mind made up. Not to mention people had seen his pro day and the deep passing concerns showed up there just as it had been at Bama (he had the worst deep ball by far between him Mac Jones Tua and Jalen Hurts). Most people agree he and his camp engaged in deception about his actual playing weight and not throwing at the combine was a strategic move. Whether or not someone feels that raises to the level of malicious is a personal opinion I guess. But knowing it got him drafted first overall and then he went on to have one of the worst passing seasons ever despite the circumstances does not necessarily put his actions before draft night in a positive light. It also does not help matters that the GM who risked it all to draft him and lost his job in the process talked about Bryce Young getting into the weight room and then Bryce Young shows up this month looking every bit exactly the same. All of this puts even more pressure on Bryce Young in his second season. Hopefully he rises to the occasion. If not this is going to go down as one of the most cautionary draft stories in many years. Stay tuned.

Well at least we got the first zinger about Bryce haters out of the way on the first page. Folks here also groaned about Teddy Bridgewater and Sam Darnold haters too. We actually looked significantly worse after Reich was fired. That shutout loss to the Jaguars missing their starting QB is one of the worst I've seen in a long time. And that's saying something for our Panthers. People can want to protect him from meanies online but there are still 17 games to be played and 16 games worth of tape on him that plenty of defenders are waiting to pounce on. I can assure they don't give a damn about haters.

It will not require him moving mountains. But it will require standards that have applied to all first overall pick QB's over the years. Basic requirements: -Improve his footwork. -Display at minimum an above average arm compared to his peers. -Establish an undisputed consistent deep ball connection. -Finish the season no less than top 12-15 in most statistical passing categories. Particularly yards per pass attempt. All of this is doable with the additions we've made and with Canales on board. Even Kyle Allen looked competent for more than one single game. If not. First round QB in 2025.

Since you want to poo posts remotely critical of him months later why don't you return and own up to your thread?

From restaurant owner …a new sign. Apologies if already posted
frankw replied to raleigh-panther's topic in Carolina Panthers
I can appreciate the sentiment. But let's see the results on the field and then begin celebrating. -
The worst thing that can happen to this franchise right now is accepting and moving forward with QB play that is "just good enough" to compete. In a league that is so absurdly skewed toward offense and passing the ball specifically you either acquire a dynamic passer or you keep looking until you do. Bryce is a nice guy his family seem like very nice people but we had the chance and did not pick the right QB and it really doesn't even matter anymore who is to blame. All that needs to happen is we accept reality. Even if Bryce Young looks better this year which will be roughly average or a Teddy Bridgewater if you will we still need to add another QB early in next years draft. The only way this shouldn't happen is if by some miracle Bryce Young has a season like CJ Stroud had as a rookie. But no amount of hopium is going to make the odds of that happening higher than 10%.

Let's hope to keep that kind of juju out of the mix this go around. I'm trying to be optimistic here lol.
