The Panthers squandered an opportunity for a top 3 pick the last two years in what ended up being losing seasons so this is what you get. Sitting around plotting on next years top pick is for fools. You cannot play it safe on your way to a SB win anymore. If you are risk averse you will be a couch surfing team come January and February more often than not so accept this and evolve or try a new sport.

To your first point that is valid. Yet the truth is we are now in that position with Teddy anyway while being on the hook for a much bigger cap loss. That is quite a significant negative now matter how we try to spin it. On your second point, metrics mean pretty much squat if the quarterback can't finish when it counts. Even Baby Goat was somehow capable enough to finish off a few games in the fourth quarter. Geez even Newton who is clearly a shell of himself managed to hobble together a few fourth quarter finishes. How on Earth did we downgrade from that? We won the same number of divisional matchups with Bridgwater as we did the previously mentioned quarterbacks. One. Uno. That is embarrassing at best. I have been around the block long enough to understand why some are still dying on this hill with Bridgwater. It's a shame but some things just don't change.

If the Carolina Panthers were willing to spend the kind of money they did on a quarterback do you believe they did not have the expectation he would be even a slight improvement over Allen or a deteriorating Newton? If all they were seeking was a placeholder for a year or two they could have achieved that for significantly less investment and addressed other areas of need to be ready for the next quarterback when the time came to hand off the reigns. The present day dilemma is that simple.

That anyone would want to applaud being worse than Kyle Allen for big bucks sounds very on brand for a franchise still without consecutive winning seasons.

Luke is a very nice guy but he is also someone who would tell it like it is. You have to acknowledge reality and move forward accordingly as an adult. All that being said. I do not believe for a minute that it was all Marty Hurney making the decision to open up the bank vault for a Bridgewater signing. He is not Snidely Whiplash and he was already on his way out of town anyway. Those who ultimately made the decision remain. I fear a major contributing factor in the signing was the need to save face after the disastrous PR effects of moving on from #1 the way we did. I can only hope they have learned a great deal from that experience because if not we already know what is on the horizon.

I have done neither of those things. Reality set in rather rapidly once this situation reached multiple allegations. What kind of argument is that to tie those two together? Only a few ignoramuses dislike Bridgewater enough to blindly throw support behind Watson before all the facts have come out. The blanket implication you are making about any Panthers fan who simply wants better quarterback play in 2021 is irresponsible and insulting to all involved.

Dodging this circus should help put things in better perspective moving forward as far as risk/reward and resource allocation. Do what it takes to be the team to draft Fields and be done with it.

There are people who wouldn't actually take Wilson at all? I know we had the little rivalry going for a time and at one point the thought of him in a Panthers uniform would have been inconceivable but then along came 2020 and the sight of Teddy Bridgewater throwing a football.

It's over guys read the room. When it's all said and done I get the feeling it's going to come out that the Texans knew about this and sat on it. Whether or not they have anything to do with the timing of this finally becoming public remains to be seen but it's quite suspicious with everything that has already happened in a month or so.

As much as their line got beat to hell the whole team looked to be in a funk and when you add in the refs and how well the Bucs were playing the end result we witnessed is what you get. There is no need to hide behind the failures of some of the best players in the league to convince ourselves of why we should keep sitting on the sidelines.

Not necessarily arguing in favor of Watson here but just speaking from a standpoint of knowing what it is like to see a team struggle without a quarterback. But I would take another several years of actual franchise quarterback level football over two yard passes on fourth and long. You can have all your draft picks and the surrounding talent taken there within but none of it matters without the centerpiece. If we don't have a quarterback either way talent is being squandered and subsequently the draft picks used to acquire said talent. We should know this story by now as Panthers fans. Just because we have been mismanaged in the past specifically with the development of our offensive line which has been mostly crap for years since the exit of Jordan Gross doesn't mean we should stop trying or be scared to take a risk if need be.

The Carolina Panthers have been doing things mostly the same way for the entirety that the franchise has existed. Few risks yet no back to back winning seasons and certainly no super bowl trophy tucked away anywhere. If you are apprehensive that is understandable but inevitably the franchise was going to make an all-in move for a signal caller if it is this way or in the draft.
