Panthers Cap Space (This Season) After Moton Deal
frankw replied to CarolinaLivin's topic in Carolina Panthers
Am I dragging the carcasses of your previous posts into our discussions like this? The opposite argument could be made for your efforts in how you attempt to squash dissent. But I have engaged with you in good faith when you have done the same. If you think my unbiased thoughts about the Panthers competing with the better teams in our division means I have a soft spot for any of them that's amusing. The last couple of years as a Panthers fan have been a big ego check so if my realism is too much for you I'll let you be from here on or try my best to. Enjoy -
Panthers Cap Space (This Season) After Moton Deal

I know you're being sarcastic but the fact we have young defensive talent and a young wideout worth talking about big contracts for is a silver lining right there. The dilemma is no immediate plan B at quarterback and nothing on the horizon in a league that now hinges entirely on signal caller quality with many teams jostling for one. You might not want to hear it but an unbiased view dictates it would be wise to have a veteran other than PJ and Grier just looking at the odds of Darnold. Now before anyone chimes in about tanking I have been very much assured coaches and players wouldn't engage in that indirectly or otherwise. Can't create a winning team culture that way right? -

Skepticism makes me a detractor? How can I concede that if we have yet to see him play a down for the team? In theory we think he will be an upgrade but it is not a guarantee like most things in life. If you can't handle a basic truth such as that you may have an unpleasant time this season if things hit the fan. I wish you luck. -
Panthers Cap Space (This Season) After Moton Deal

I would be hesitant to make that claim just yet. TB wasn't holding the team back bc he was a turnover machine though that was a factor. He could have been a decent starter if he pushed the ball downfield consistently and didn't opt for the easy play far too often. He was risk averse to a fault. With Sam we know he can sling it better than Teddy but it's a matter of coaching those too often risky plays out of him. There was a video in one of these threads going back to his usc days of him just heaving up some pretty dicey passes. That's the x factor we have to wait and see on if he will be able to progress from that. -

Edit: I see it now. Moore is going to get minimum 80 millionish. Pair that with Burns deal that's a heap of salary cap that could make things tough for 2025. -
Rumor: Hill to Start over Wintson Week 1
frankw replied to CarolinaLivin's topic in Carolina Panthers
You'll get poo for this because folks are fragile but how we do against the Saints and Bucs will determine how for real we are moving forward with Rhule. Even without Brees Payton will give us all we can handle and I can't stand that prick but it's true. -
What are our options if Darnold Gets Injured?

So the solution was to pay a fringe starter who has battled injuries a contract even he was surprised to be offered? Look I know we have the shiny new car smell with this regime in the air around here but how is that a drastically different move from years past? It seems a bit like a panic contract to cover our ass. Again I hope he starts but if he misses time or does not contribute much it's not a good deal for us.
-
Indeed. Listen I like Borrego and I'm not eager to have to start another coaching search but injuries or not he has to lead this team to a better result next season. Look how far the Hawks made it with an interim. He's gotta show us something.
-
Hope, but be real. We don't know what Darnold is, but that's OK.
frankw replied to top dawg's topic in Carolina Panthers
Bridgewater should be the factor that leads to caution in all this. There was skepticism around him early on too but some people engaged in shouting down dissent and we see how that ended. Luckily Sam has tools that Teddy lacked. We know he has the arm strength we seek. It's if the decision making lines up then we're set. We hope. -
Something that was dropped in my inbox today...

His career and reputation may never be the same again but Jameis? Come on man! -
That part is at around 15:30. He basically said the vets on the team had to adjust to Rhule's new imprint on the team it has a college feel to it he didn't go into detailed specifics on various aspects of that. But this shouldn't really surprise anyone even the terminology we heard from staff and others last year when they spoke involved words like program sprinkled in. I don't think it's an issue but they should definitely make a concerted effort to change gears in '21 because the lack of leadership in such a young roster showed in some of those close games we lost.

It's not exactly a great way to kick off your podcast episode sounding like the oh ho ho it's funny because it's true character from family guy. Any doorknob with a wifi connection has a podcast now.

I'm not asking for much. Just get us a real center ffs. Someone better than what we've had. If it's an upgrade I'll take it. Four fuging wheels and a seat!

CMC fanboys are the new Cam stans. My guy you can sit around lusting over your boys individual accolades but that poo ain't getting us out of the basement no matter how many touches we give him. The best offenses in the league have a dynamic duo of qb and receiver. Sam and DJ (hell Robby too) need to form a solid bond and I think bright things could be ahead despite how much folks like yourself want to make it about one player instead of the team.
-
5 million a year may not buy you a season long left tackle but it isn't chump change either. We are just throwing darts but he has to stay somewhat healthy for any of this discussion to matter. I don't have a pff sub so I can't see details but he had a grade of 58 last year so that's not great and not terrible. I mean I don't know what the standard is you're looking for here. Our undisputed worst free agent signing in history Matt Kalil had a grade of 62.4 in 2017. Is that playing well? Maybe I'm being too hard on the guy but I just don't want to see Sam running for his life or on his ass.
-
Not trying to single you out in this but speaking in general it is tiring how folks will dump on one player and prop up others. Even if DJ Moore isn't elite he is quite good. Just because the Panthers have given #22 the most touches in the whole damn league so he could get his 1k/1k season doesn't mean Moore isn't being held back by poor passing. If we can actually get the ball to him who knows what his ceiling is.
-
That is an impressive plus I hope he can replicate. But you may want to dig a little deeper into that. Specifically sample size. Erving only had 279 snaps. Even Martin whom you chose to compare had double that with 618. In 2019 when he had 589 snaps more comparable with Martin he allowed 5 sacks and had 7 penalties. If he is going to live up to his contract he will be seeing significantly more snaps. I'm all for hoping he will improve but we don't need to cook the books here to convince ourselves. The data is there and some of it is good some of it not so good. That's the kind of ol signing Carolina has been known for let's see if it works out.

You said he performed well last year I refuted it with fact based information.

Carolina Panthers: 5 big riddles Matt Rhule must solve at 2021 camp
frankw replied to SBBlue's topic in Carolina Panthers
You just can't talk to some of these folks. Look 22 is a supremely talented athlete but at the end of the day he is still an rb. He can't throw to himself and he can't block for himself. He is a great decoy but Carolina has tried and failed multiple times to make him our very own swiss army knife. Where has it gotten us? 10 wins in two years and perpetually stuck in the bottom of the division. A big part of that has been starting multiple quarterbacks but through it all we have not been particularly good in the redzone at converting touchdowns which should still be a plus if we have one of the top running backs. Last year we were at 50% and in 2019 in CMC's banner year we were at 58% which sits us at 28th and 15th in the league. If we are to have a top back in the nfl we should be scoring touchdowns simple and plain. Guess who has been atop the redzone percentage since 2019? Tennessee. Why? Well it helps to have an offensive line and not settling for scrapheap as starters while you spend a boatload on the backfield. https://www.teamrankings.com/nfl/stat/red-zone-scoring-pct?date=2021-02-08 -
I hope he works out for us but let's at least be accurate about that tidbit. https://pantherswire.usatoday.com/2021/03/17/panthers-pat-elflein-cameron-erving-pff-grades/amp/

REPORT: No movement in Panthers’ talks w/ Taylor Moton
frankw replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
Well Moton just got 43 million guaranteed -
Good news. Would like some confirmation on if he is staying on the right side. This contract puts him right in line with the fifth highest left tackle contract.
