Panthers Practice August 12: Compliment Sandwich Edition
frankw replied to Ricky Spanish's topic in Carolina Panthers
Bryce's body language after that really bad pick in camp yesterday looked like a guy who just wanted to get it over with. We can argue over what precisely defines a true leader. But elite processing and elite leadership were two key attributes that were the justification to draft him #1. At this point I'm seeing neither. -
I would have preferred to keep Burns somehow. Declining the Rams offer is a hindsight thing where obviously you look back with regret. But the whole reason we declined the trade was bc we were supposed to be building something. Instead we later traded away DJ Moore with zero plan to replace him. Then after we move on from Burns because we didn't want to pay him what he was asking we spend over 100 million dollars on the oline and watch (almost) all our backups play like the worst roster in the NFL in the first preseason game. It's just been one trainwreck to the next. My biggest thing with Morgan right now is the talk of this new dawg mentality he's been seeking. I'm just not seeing it in any way shape or form from the offense. In fact seeing our #1 pick blindly throwing interceptions into double coverage in practice and then acting as if he could barely care is the complete opposite of any dawg mentality. As of right now I don't think the future looks good for Dan. It might not be entirely his fault but this is his ship now.

Panthers Practice August 12: Compliment Sandwich Edition

The Carolina Panthers exist. Based on the ups and notable downs of these practices the starters sitting and complimenting the coach on how much they like him and now ending practice pretty early giving me vibes of the early Ron Rivera days I'm thinking the Jets matchup is either going to go really well or really bad. Dave Canales is handsome. -

Law and Order: Secondary Victims Unit

I get what they're trying to do but all this talk of the secondary only matters if: A). Jaycee Horn can actually stay healthy. B). If our offense can actually sustain drives and score. Even if Jaycee miraculously plays the majority of the season eventually this secondary is going to get eaten up if the defense is on the field an exorbitant amount of time because the offense is utterly useless. -
Threw it directly to two defenders blanketing one receiver without looking at that side of the field for even half a second. In the midst of all this you have simps asking why the place is negative

It's a bizarre expectation given the full picture of circumstances. Whether we had an MVP behind center or a crappy QB that player has always been the biggest needle mover in discussion. Now that the league and the officiating are so offense friendly the conversation is only further amplified because even other teams in our division who have moved on from longtime QB's like Brees and Ryan that were thorns in our side for years are going about addressing the quarterback situation better. How many years now has the Falcons roster been a pile of poo? They still move the ball better. You even have some fans arguing it could take years just for us to have an offense capable of moving the ball at a consistent pace. For fugs sake even Matt Rhule in his first season had us moving the ball. Had us even believing Robby Anderson might actually be a starting WR. Some people here act like just because you have expectations you walked up and kicked their dog and smacked their baby. It's ridiculous.

I would personally shake the hand of the media person who would ask Dan Morgan about how he reconciles talking about needing dawgs on this team in his introductory press conference and the factory of sadness that is our milquetoastery QB room.
-
Sobering seeing the offensive output thus far in the preseason compared to us. Even the Broncos dropped 30+. Legitimately someone should be fired for this Panthers QB room.
-
Nobody legitimately wants Bridgewater or any of the bum QB's of yesteryear back. Bad is bad. But we have absolutely labored for even field goals as of late and defenses have absolutely no fear of a deep ball from our O. We have tumbled even further than our usual through the bulk of the Richardson years. That is saying something.
-
Teddy Bridgewater had a cannon by comparison versus what we've been subjected to.
-
Can you stop being the ministry of propaganda here? That ball was too far out of bounds for the receiver to make a play on it without making an acrobatic grab and that was an issue last season as well. I mean the guy got shaken up trying to haul it in and you're still desperately running interference. Do you think that won't eventually result in some tempers flaring if he continues this trend into the regular season like last year? DJ will absolutely let BY hear about it eventually. Our receivers have to help the QB and our QB has to help the receivers. It's a two way street.

Ugly isn’t the word. That's our first overall pick who sat out the first preseason game tossing a no look INT. Looks errily familiar to some turnovers from last year. Just brutal.
-
I just can't say what they will or won't be until I see them actually play together with the rest of the OL. I hope they are good as is the rest of the offensive line. But it's been an issue for years now. I think the odds of a night and day turnaround are low. Anywho I really want to see these guys up against the Jets in some real action. Much has been said about resting our starters but for the longest time it seems like every year we've talked about the oline needing time to gel and we have a new head coach a new offense and new key players along the position group this season and some people think the way we are going about this is no problemo. I'm very skeptical. These guys need to get out there for a few series in a preseason game. The whole offense does.
-
Two of the best guards on other talented rosters last year. We haven't seen them play a down with this offensive group in live game action yet. And let's be honest. We overpaid. History hasn't been kind to our Panthers under such circumstances. I'm not saying we shouldn't have signed them but to invest such a steep amount and then leave center basically up in the air is just baffling. You can agree yes?
-
Uh no.
-
When he gets set to throw the WR and DB aren't even in the frame. He's throwing to a spot but he's putting it too far out. He made a habit out of this last season too. You can find highlights of receivers contorting themselves trying to haul the passes in. Bryce Young simply has iffy deep ball accuracy and always has. There just hasn't been any improvement.

I saw deep pass "attempt" and immediately groaned. Can we ever get a "completion"?
-
The OL was a huge part of Scott Fitterer's failure as GM and the first thing Dan Morgan does is play Russian roulette with the most integral position of the oline. Your Carolina Panthers ladies and gentlemen lol.

College highlights... And you wonder why people in the fanbase might be irritable?
-
There are many people within the fanbase that are dug in on their positions regarding QB. They are all understandable. Some believe no matter what without consistent verified results because they are tired of being what they perceive to be negative even though others simply regard it as reality. Others don't believe and won't believe until they see those consistent results from a first overall pick. And that is what separates a jag who can occasionally make certain throws but more often than not doesn't get it done. That's not a franchise QB. That's not even a flash in the pan. That's not even a Sam Darnold or a Kyle Allen or a Matt Moore. That's simply a swing and a miss. Some people complain to no end about the existence of this discussion but taking that out on fans here is misplaced. We do not control day to day team operations. The staff made the decision they made regarding the first week of preseason and set this back in motion. Direct the complaints of the state of discourse where it belongs. Shooting the messenger isn't helping either.
