Yes we have had some quality players on defense but the unit as a whole has fallen off a cliff. If you want to blame the offense okay by all means yes they have been dreadful too but why are you conveniently leaving out the fact our resources the last two seasons have leaned heavily on one side of the ball? The offense is dreadful specifically bc this regime has attempted the dollar store Dave approach to the oline and it has blown up before their eyes.

It sounds good in theory but we have overused McCaffrey to the point of insanity with two different coaching staffs. This whole offense needs a reset and that contract is going to be a hindrance in that goal no matter which angle you look at it from.
-
As a fan it hurts but this is the only answer moving forward. We need to build a semblance of a real nfl oline ASAP by any means necessary and we can't have contracts like that around our necks. Also it needs to be said: Do not draft an rb in the top 10.

We are seeing the end of Cam's career

Kyle Allen Teddy Bridgewater Sam Darnold all of them have had their share or excuses some more some less. Newton may get a little more leeway given his history but most people are aware of realities. I had wished mentalities like the above would change with time but I guess not and that's a bummer. Fear not though one day he will be gone again and you will be able to breathe a sigh of relief. For some that's all that matters and can even ease the sting of losing. -
Cam Newton should be done as a starting QB in this league

If it were up to you we would be saddled with a hefty Kyle Allen extension. Remember those days? Ease up with the salt my guy. -

Both combined are enough to get most coaches canned bc we threw precious resources in cap space and draft capital right into the trash.
-
Um they've already done that two times now. 30 million dollars for one season of Teddy Bridgwater and 3 draft picks and 18 million dollars guaranteed for the worst starting qb in the league.
-
We didn't hire him to be the college version of Ron Rivera if he has to be told any of this it's time to move on.
-
Well to be fair football seems to be secondary to our coaches and players rn because we damn sure aren't winning anything so the fans are only a reflection of that.
-
Well yeah his first nfl draft was all defense. We somehow managed to circle back to the same thing but with way less experience. Even the nepotism with his coaching hires and stashing of Baylor and Temple players is Riveraesque.
-
I have had this thought recently as well and it really drives home how low we have sunk. We thought it couldn't get worse. Firing Rivera was the easy part. Lessons must be learned and we need outside input on the next hire not our owner in the driver's seat fawning over the first smooth talker he meets.

The odds of a career resurgence were not great but it's all we had. Whenever we go from here my hope is that we seek a head coach with both real nfl experience and a new philosophy altogether. We've been doing the defensive identity thing for many years enough is enough. Get someone in here who wants to build up the offense into a threat with a real offensive line instead of wasting whole drafts on the other side of the ball and acting shocked when the wheels fall apart on offense. -
We had the same kind of folks with Sam Darnold are you asking them to leave too? Only a few people think Cam has a long term future in our plans. He was brought in as a last ditch effort because Darnold was both bad and mentally washed you could see it on his face that last game he played. But none of this matters until the coaching situation is right and rn it is becoming more and more clear each week we need nfl caliber experience on this staff not low level college coaches.
-
We're already there. We aren't competing or rebuilding and the Jets fleeced us in the Darnold trade.
-
This dates back to 2018 right? The oline is somehow worse since then and we have invested significant draft capital in the defense in the meantime. But keep piling on one of the few players that made this team watchable over the years
-
This talk was cringe months ago now it's just embarrassing. Can people please stop saying crap like this? We are a doormat we went 0-4 against the NFC East ffs this is NOT college there are no "programs" only professionals and real talent.
-
Based on what? They have been thoroughly abused two games in a row by average at best offenses and that's after exhausting an entire draft 2 first rounders and multiple trades for that side of the ball. The defense is the complete opposite of "set".

It isn't the losing alone it's getting outcoached by bottom tier teams. We are the get right matchup for our opponents on a weekly basis.

I was hoping he could toss a few easy screens but he's shat on my fantasy team. The oline is awful but Cam disappointed big time today and only gave more fuel to the haters that want him out of the league. -
