So endless restructures are good again right? For years we were told it would spell our doom. Seems like same old Hurney to me.

But no one would rail their contracts save for a few ignoramuses because they are elite franchise quarterbacks that are very difficult to replace. As long as it isn't a career changing injury most would realize we'll be back next year. But without one of those what is there to look forward to? Oh we have one of the best backs in football when he's healthy? Great we still can't win more than five games even when he is on pace to break the record on RB touches. We can't keep thinking like it's the eighties or the nineties. I don't have any beef with Shaq the contract is what it is but if you're asking me it would be best to direct that money to the Dline when the contract ends. OL and DL are the bread and butter. I don't want to trade DJ or CMC but if it is keeping one or the other I will pick WR each time. I am in complete agreement with you about the management. Taking swings at quarterback isn't the problem it is how they have gone about it. We had three opportunities to go for one in the draft since Cam fully hit the injury wall in the 2019 season. It should have been done and over with by now. But we made our first order of business retaining players on a losing team similary to what we did in 2010. We got the same results too.

Why are you comparing him to HOF QB's? That's the most important position you can't just replace one but an RB out on the other hand should not sink your whole season. I get you're a CMC superfan but we should have traded him when his value was the highest in 2020 it's not just about the contract but missed value overall after investing a top 10 pick as well. Now we're just waiting for the other shoe to drop. Shelf life is what it is and through two staffs they have rode him into the ground. But what's done is done. We need a QB and a real OL and I would trade a running back ten times out of ten if it meant getting to that goal. I hope you feel the same.

I get where you're coming from but he went for the payday. You wouldn't do the same? We weren't going to offer him anywhere near that. Nothing in this league is guaranteed when you get the chance to maximize your deal you take it. But I damn sure would not break the bank for him now.

There would be hope if the decision makers had not wasted half our draft and 19 million in cap space this year on the worst quarterback in the league. Just having all of our draft picks would offer more to discuss. But nope

Valid. But in relation to DG you could argue it did and then it didn't. The unraveling of a Super Bowl team began with the 2016 offseason and man did we blow it and Dave was the biggest part of that personnel wise. On the coaching end I don't think enough can be said about the loss of McDermott and Ron hiring and promoting his pals.

Any kind of statement would at least be seen as a sign of goodwill. For me the biggest thing is the silence after how eager he was to speak to the media about Cam back in 2020. You were all about finding a microphone then and speaking for the franchise but you can't say a word now? Just looks inconsistent.

Oh we agree Rhule should never have been given final say. But at the same time if none of this works out there are plenty of other GM candidates out there we can interview who are not interested in just being a yes man. And let's just be plain about this. There are things that could have and should have been said about that Darnold deal before it all went down and anyone who didn't speak up honestly shouldn't be in charge of a lemonade stand.
-
I can agree with that. But this all boils down to the better areas to invest in your team in a league that has seen a shift in recent years. QB OL and WR are the cream of the crop. RB's are a dime a dozen and can be had in mid to late rounds or signed in FA on short term contracts because most teams not named the Carolina Panthers know this.
-
At the time it was a contentious debate but now it isn't even a discussion. You do not make running backs the face of your franchise and you definitely do not do so before you have even identified your franchise quarterback. 6 games in two seasons sums up the contract no matter how big of a fan you might be. Sorry Charlie these are the facts.

After all the years of you and others rightfully blasting Marty Hurney into oblivion for his mismanagement it is tough to watch the mental gymnastics now just because you like the new GM on a personal level. None of that can change the fact he was directly involved in the Sam Darnold trade which will go down as one of the worst in years for any team. These guys are paid the big bucks to evaluate talent.

Terry and LaMelo with the heroics to just barely drag us past a forgettable 24 win Spurs team.
-
Brown nosing isn't going to help either.

Randos like Keldon Johnson having career nights on our home court. Definitely been disappointed with Borrego but with each game it looks more and more like Hornets fans seriously overrate some of our players. I love em' but eventually you just have to acknowledge reality.
-
True. But Darnold is still statistically the worst passer in the NFL the last two seasons and that's from a clean pocket. You just can't say enough how abysmal that is. I can't blame anyone for mentally checking out in that offense. The decision makers here should have damn well known better and some of this could've been prevented.

I mean...

I would definitely like him to bring in more contested catches especially on third down and certainly in the end zone. This is true and is a reasonable expectation no doubt. These do involve other variables though and when your offense is one of the bottom in the league struggles in that regard are amplified. Let's hope we get the opportunity to see DJ with a good QB and a better offensive system. People can have their opinions on him but it would make me sick to see him thriving in another offense with coaches and a QB who can properly utilize him while we go back to the drawing board.

https://www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/car/career-receiving.htm Revisiting this take. What is your standard for a #1? DJ Moore is already 4th in yards behind only Olsen Moose and 89. Looking at the Panthers receiving history there are two TE's in the top 10 yardage totals and Christian McCaffrey is 6th and Kelvin Benjamin is even in the top 10. The rest of the list outside one or two notable names is just a bunch of guys.
-
Agreed but it depends heavily on what we do with the rest of the oline. If we keep lining up subpar linemen next to him people need to adjust their expectations but you know we all want a dominant rookie from day one but it isn't very likely.
-
It's nice to have a pass rusher but that doesn't do you much good without any semblance of a real threat from your offense. The Rams have the best pass rusher in years and they didn't finally win the big one until they went all in on their offense. QB and WR run the NFL. Panthers fans are still clinging to their defense first mantra but only seven winning seasons to show for it.
