Panthers trade for wide receiver Laviska Shenault
frankw replied to joemac's topic in Carolina Panthers
Never heard of him. I guess we balked at the Jets asking price for Mims lol. Hopefully this guy is another weapon. If this helps us in moving away from McCaffrey having 30 or more touches a game because we lack playmakers I guess I'll see how good he is. But our decision makers continuing to look for gold at the bottom of rosters like the Jets and Jags does make you scratch your head. -
Baker Could Be our “Brees”

Baker Could Be our “Brees”

I get the circumstance comparison but all the same fug Drew Brees. I hope the OL can protect Baker and he has a career year. It's past time we become a force in this division. -
Well we did give up two picks for him. I agree about taking Willis or Howell based on readiness. But we can't call any of these QB's a success based on preseason alone. It's a very tricky position some quarterbacks who look somewhat competent initially hit a wall and others who didn't can blossom with more time. One of our former QB's lit us up last year in BOA and is now fighting for a backup spot. Corral has a much more narrow window to learn and show something now and that's unfortunate but it happens. How it unfolded is just one more reason to feel doubt about the track record of this staff though.
-
I didn't say other teams backups are good. But we are talking about the Panthers who have been trying to rebuild the oline for what seems like 15 years now. People act like this place is filled with Corral superfans but it isn't reality. Many fans wanted this staff to finally draft their own QB. Rhule and Fitterer had their chances to move up for Willis and they could have even double dipped for Howell but declined. If Corral is a bust that's on them.
-
For all your bluster about negative fans you're pretty reactionary yourself bub. I didn't bash Baker I just stated the current reality of the situation. He still has to go out there and prove himself to be considered elite same as any other QB would regardless of where they were drafted.
-
We're all frustrated. But the simple fact of the matter is PFF had us as the 31st ranked OL in the NFL last year. We consistently gave our only MVP in franchise history slop outside of his rookie season with Gross and the Super Bowl run. We want a franchise QB. We may end up drafting another next season. Baker looks to hopefully be serviceable in the meantime. But we have got to end this agonizing run of fail in building a real oline if we want to make these desires reality.
-
You can tell who wanted him to fail and why. He wasn't even my first choice I wanted Malik Willis based on his ceiling and playmaking ability. But there was no reason to hate on our draft pick unlike certain Howell fanboys.
-
Bringing in a former Jets kicker ugh.
-
Being realistic about our oline depth and Matt Rhule still looking out of his depth = I am rooting for Baker to fail?
-
We'll see about that copium you speak of when Baker is running for his life if we get a few banged up olinemen. I'll be eager to see how much better he fares after several weeks of it.
-
Impossible to say what he will or won't be given the initial circumstances we put a rookie QB into. If we had taken any of the other rookie QB's they would have looked the same behind the backup OL and with the coaching staff giving the rookie very little real practice reps. The results working with the 2nd and 3rd string oline speaks for itself. Walker beaten up Corral heading to IR and now Darnold out for several weeks. You're kidding yourself if you think Willis Howell Ridder or others look promising under Rhule's mismanagement.
-
I was excited for him when he was drafted but in this version of the NFL if you've got hands of stone as an RB you better be built like a bruiser and be able to move the chains. That's the mold of back we should have targeted to spell McCaffrey like we had with Mike Davis.
-
Not productive no but he's going to be heading out in a short number of months anyways so the conversation will be over regardless. He's making a great deal of money to once again not even play or practice. He will be ok.
-
Santoso was okay for a time. If we found Zane we can find someone else for the time being. We definitely aren't alone amongst the rest of the NFL with kicker woes. It's been a strange few years lately.
-
As bad as last years OL was QB's weren't dropping like flies to IR within three games. This has the potential to get pretty damn ugly if any of our starters get even slightly banged up.
-
Cam has eyes and ears he sees what we just let happen to our rookie QB and Sam Darnold. Cmon now.
-
This OL has sent two QB's to IR in one preseason. No we are not subjecting Cam Newton to anymore of this slop.
-
I'll be surprised if he isn't on the roster game 1. Matt Rhule gonna Matt Rhule.
-
Yeah I've been very hard on Darnold but I hate to see that for anyone. He can recover and lick his wounds with that 18 million dollars though no worries Sam.
-
I'd take him in an instant but idk if they're dumb enough to put him on the PS now that Wilson is out for the season.
-
You wanna date me or something? And you were just crying about Jared stinking up this thread with nonsense.
-
Don't like seeing that from this OL depth first Corral now Darnold.
-
Well anyways it was nice having a steady kicker for awhile I guess.
-
It's one guy and he's doing the same thing he's done in the Hornets section if you're letting him get under your skin that's on you.
