I tend to agree with you and I was frustrated with that as well but we do not know what conversations went on behind closed doors. I think the likelihood is ultimately the front office did speak to Silver and raise concerns but he basically dismissed them thus nothing "official" was filed. The league knows the Lakers are their money maker. They are not going to let that all go down. Stuff like this is why I've largely detached from basketball when I used to be very passionate about it when I was younger. Small markets in this league don't stand a chance.

I wouldn't root for any of these big market teams if you paid me. I am thrilled the lowly Hornets embarrassed them in their own city. That's the absolute least they deserve.

Well. Let's just all be up front with one another here. I mean we've been optimistic and hopeful because generally every fanbase is this time of year even for the worst teams like ours. But what percentage would you say our odds of finishing with a winning record are this upcoming season? 25% at best? And that's being optimistic. At the point where our season is over and we've moved onto a backup it would be only about the development of the core young players on the roster. Unfortunately there won't be much if any development with a 38 year old QB that finished with one of the worst passer ratings in the league. And whom let's just be completely blunt here. Played so horrifically after that lone Raiders win that the Panthers logged as much mileage as humanly possible out of a thumb sprain so that they wouldn't even have to so much as look at Andy Dalton behind center again. My opinion is that the Panthers are once again banking on comfortability. For Bryce Young. Maybe it will work. Then again. This is the logic of a franchise that has the worst win percentage in professional sports so it's perfectly rational to be skeptical. The biggest plus we have right now is that our #1 pick finished the season on a high note and looked very confident and in command. Of course that doesn't guarantee anything going forward unfortunately. And while I am more confident in Bryce going forward I am also remaining of the opinion that revamping this QB room to a point where guys are actually pushing one another on the field and in the film room would be significantly more valuable than paying someone who is nearly as old as Derek Anderson that has been retired for 7 years shouting "go get em' Bryce!" and giving him high fives on the sideline. We hired a young offensive minded head coach who is well known for his communication and QB development for this purpose. If the Panthers kick Jack Plummer to the curb and bring in an actual young QB prospect that has potential and isn't an afterthought at best I'll feel at least marginally better. But I still see this as a missed opportunity. Time will tell who here was right about this. But we all do want the same thing. I've got no personal hard feelings toward anyone that feels differently to be clear. We will see how it shakes out.

Hurney undoubtedly did some good for us but man there was so much bad. And supposedly and luckily for us he unsuccessfully tried to trade up for Jimmy Clausen. I will agree Gettleman got the Panthers to the Super Bowl with a core of Hurney players though. Some of us here were saying that at the time. And then Gettleman's corresponding moves following that loss pretty much slammed our window shut from there. At the time I believe we were the only team to win 15 or more games and go to a Super Bowl and then have a losing record the following season. Anyways it remains to be seen how Dan Morgan will be at drafting in the later rounds from here but we absolutely need to nail this years first round pick first and foremost and no we are not going to do that trading down for chump change like some people are clamoring for.

The only thing we know about the Panthers culture is after a disastrous start to the season after thinking we didn't need preseason reps our team played better and snagged a few wins after we were eliminated from playoff contention. This team still has everything to prove make no mistake and yes this QB room remains front and center of that.
-
Everyone knows Bryce Young is the starter. Although there is still a great deal to prove for him Canales and the rest of the team when the games matter. But friendly competition is good for everyone and makes everyone better. And the Panthers seem to be one of the few teams that do not value this mindset especially regarding the most consequential position on the team. And it is not at all like they have earned any benefit of the doubt either. And again we had these same kind of conversations about preseason last year with the Panthers thinking they know better than the majority of the rest of the league. Also Derek Anderson is currently 41 years old and has been out of football for going on 7 years now. Andy Dalton will be 38 next season. Just a stupid desperate comparison.

Joe Person: Projecting moves based on vibes
frankw replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
Until proven otherwise we still have what was one of the bottom QB rooms in the league last year. And that was with one of the better OL units in the league. The last thing we should do is jettison Moton as of right now. -
I liked Derek Anderson a lot but he was a pal nothing more. Cam Newton in his early years was rookie of the year and built like a tank. People might have had questions about Cam's accuracy but that was it. Nothing at all comparable to the still unanswered questions about Bryce. Not to mention Anderson never had to play any extended time nor did he look horrendously awful in the process. At the end of the day the people justifying this are the same people who were in here shouting down concern about preseason last year. Carrying water for the decision makers of the sports franchise with the worst win percentage in professional sports is just coping.
-
Isn't that exactly what we did last year and then we opened with two of the worst losses in franchise history?
-
There goes any wind in the sails of my offseason hope that might have been building. We had at one point last season the worst or at least one of the three worst QB rooms in the league and that is not hyperbole regardless of what anyone might attempt to argue. We should have gone toward a younger vet if anything. We do not owe Andy Dalton any loyalty. The Saints couldn't wait for him to leave and they are garbage. Meanwhile our Panthers are like "Hey we can't let Andy leave town we need a mentor for our third year first overall pick". Just comically depressing levels of ineptitude.

Lamelo snubbed not once. But Twice for the All Star game

https://sports.yahoo.com/kevin-durant-derides-nba-all-star-criticism-its-more-fun-to-complain-about-the-nba-than-to-actually-watch-it-184230428.html Spoiled entitled team jumpers with a net worth of roughly 300 million dollars like Kevin Durant going on social media to complain about the fans that pay their salary is a pitiful look for a league that has already been struggling with viewership. Let these assholes go work a regular job like the majority of the rest of the population. -
Still somehow better than Scott Fitterer and no it isn't close.
-
Personally I'm done with the "trade a quarter for 2 dimes and a nickel" Fitterer logic so I say stay put and take a top prospect regardless. No matter how the top 7 picks play out there will be a damn good player available and we should take that player based on the fact we have needs across the board.

What top 10 prospect do you absolutely NOT want?

Geez people are very passionate about Travis Hunter. He seems like a solid dude. I think he has a great deal of potential wherever he ends up. For myself and my knowledge of Panthers draft history I'm ready to see us stop gambling on raw WR prospects and putting a much heavier emphasis on fundamentals ie route running and hands. But that's just me. -

frankw replied to micnificent28's topic in Carolina Panthers
In the 4th or 5th round like the majority of other teams are doing? Sure. But unfortunately we are also in a predicament where every draft pick this year is crucial. Not to beat a dead horse but this is really what we should have done last year. Alas... -
Mark Williams Unwilling to Return to Hornets

That's a tough call. But if recent results in this league have proven anything it's that elite play in the trenches can open up things for everyone else. See the Eagles.

The video is basically 1hr and 47 mins long. I mean really? Look I've been a massive Cam homer in my day. I'll still defend him tooth and nail against knuckle draggers that make ridiculous accusations over "the fumble" or just in general trying to diminish him and what he meant to the team in his prime. But this is not that Cam. This is post career Cam. This is a guy who is clearly desperate to retain the limelight. I don't think it's a good look and it's starting to get cringe IMO. I don't see any difference between him and any other controversy huckster on social media. That's all there is to it.

Mark Williams Unwilling to Return to Hornets
frankw replied to Daddy_Uncle's topic in Charlotte Hornets
The NBA has been in existence for decades it's baffling that there isn't already something in place to prevent something like this there have been countless trades over the years this can't be the first time something like this has happened. And certainly the Hornets cannot be expected to simply lose him for nothing now on top of having to buy him out. -
So the Dallas Mavericks have completely lost their minds
frankw replied to LinvilleGorge's topic in Charlotte Hornets
Well at least we aren't the Mavericks.... -
Sounds to me like the Lakers slept on it and had second thoughts. I say f*ck them and I'm glad we are challenging it I'm tired of seeing small market teams get the shaft. Though ultimately I will be very surprised if the league rules in our favor. Man they must really want Mark Williams off the damn team lol.

I would say that's a poor choice of words on his part. He can convey the point that the Panthers were in disarray at best when he was drafted without calling the whole roster losers. There definitely were some quality players on that team. At the same time it shouldn't be confused that just any rookie QB would have came into that situation and flourished or gone on to be named rookie of the year. And also while I am very pro 89 there's also the reality that not just any QB let alone a rookie was going to be at all adept at managing his personality. Anyways I think Cam needs to take a step back and assess this media persona he's created for himself. At some point with how he navigates this he is tarnishing his own brand and legacy for the sake of clicks and social media exposure. I mean he's giving credence to the things people used to say about him especially those who ironically were in the media. He's becoming that which he was victimized by because he still craves the limelight. That's unfortunate.
