If it has no factor in injuries why are the only outliers folks have to fall back on in the last 40 years Brees Wilson and Flutie?
-
Brees is an overrated stat padder. Gifted one Super Bowl win. What else after? Even inaccurate career 59% completion percentage Cam Newton gave Brees teams all they could handle for those years. Stop comparing our possible future QB to that douche to make yourself feel better about his frame.

The same thing could be said about BY if he didn't play for Alabama and Nick Saban.

This is why Bryce Young undoubtedly is QB1
frankw replied to Ivory Panther's topic in Carolina Panthers
There have been plenty of former NFL GM's with waaaaaaay more experience than us who have gotten themselves canned picking risky prospects. Hell Dave Gettleman had what damn near half a century of wisdom and Giants fans couldn't wait to get him out of town. -

Bryce by all accounts is a fantastic person. Most former players like him. Not surprising few if any are going to knock him for his frame. They don't need to anyways everyone else can see the obvious. But hey apparently we have the best OL in the league for years to come so he will never have to deal with being hit by defenders twice his size. That's a load off my mind 🫡 -
Well he also raved about DJ Moore. Hopefully not the KOD here.

I just don't get the using Cam's injury as an argument in favor of a smaller frame QB. If anything it has the opposite effect on your argument. Cam is still very much the rushing threat now as he was a few years ago. What QB in the last twenty years has significantly more rushing attempts than him? He is the all time leader in rushing attempts and rushing TD's. He held up through that. If he were sub 6 foot and 200 pounds soaking wet he would have been on IR his rookie year. That hopium has some folks making rationalizations that make no sense. -

His throwing shoulder was destroyed in the pocket. -

Of course we can't predict the future but one has the ideal frame the other is light. The odds favor Stroud. -

My fear is if we take Young he does very well but eventually deals with those inevitable injuries and Stroud ends up looking legit without the injury concerns. This place would be unbearable. -

If he's the pick so be it. There's plenty to like about his abilities. The thing I keep going back to is the frame. Skipping the weigh in is a big red flag and confirms he's 190ish at best on gamedays. He'll be okay for a time but eventually defenses will look to send him that welcome to the NFL message. If Sam Darnold can get rocked the way he did against the Falcons you can bet your ass eventually another defense will be waiting to do the same to our top pick QB if he runs with it. The refs will not be getting in between him and defenders. He's already banged up his throwing shoulder in the SEC. The OL with him behind center concerns me. Gotta shore up the OL depth even more with some of our other draft picks. We'll see. -
I just wish he did the weigh in to shut everyone up. You weigh in the same even if people still have frame concerns there's no more whispers about weight changes.
-
These Mahomes comps are overboard. Already 2 championships under his belt. The man is 1 of 1.
-
No weigh in? That's a concern with the questions swirling around his frame. Can't spin this one.
-
This is supposed to be our guy for the next decade or more. All things should be considered. Most people want to see him throw even if they have questions about his frame. This thread will inevitably be 20 or more pages. Get some popcorn and enjoy the show.
-
He's light by NFL QB standards man there's nothing wrong with discussing that come on.
-
No doubt they should and will save for a few. But the same can be said vice versa if he isn't the pick. That's why it's important not to fall head over heels too much. I'm looking forward to seeing him throw.
-
You generally only discuss Bryce Young and do so glowingly in all aspects while downing other prospects. If you read that post discussing the very realistic realities for both prospects and thought to yourself "triggered" perhaps it's time to consider if you are too enamored with your favorite draft pick. Good talk.

McCown to CJ : “Maybe when you move to Charlotte”
frankw replied to TheWiz's topic in Carolina Panthers
Charlotte has indeed gotten rough it's a shame. But part of the problem with that here and across the country is due to a number of reasons. Many Americans need to do some soul searching. The American value system now is the worst it's ever been. Everything is me me me I want I want fancy 500k and up condos everywhere fancy and or enormous new cars suvs and trucks that cost upwards of 100k and affordable housing gone. So many want to live well beyond their means. Eventually the chickens will come home to roost on all this . -
Even if a QB shows a "clutch gene" in college it doesn't mean it will translate to the NFL. And some of the current most clutch QB's in the league weren't necessarily that in college. It's foolish to anoint either Stroud or Young before they have put on an NFL uniform. Both have significant talent and ability. But there's no guarantee all or any of it will translate. Who even knows which QB will be the best from this years class it may not even end up being one of them. When you go all in on one prospect and elevate your level of expectations to near walk on water levels you are going to get hit in the forehead by reality. I think we should temper those expectations in the coming months regardless. Let these kids grow and learn. We can't put the weight of the world on their shoulders from the jump. It's going to be a process. Just enjoy the journey.

Mr. Scot just can't handle seeing any QB who isn't a milquetoast play football. He's Hank Hill IRL.
-
You just did. You obviously are deep in your feelings about the reaction to his pro day. And when Young has a great pro day and the media pendulum swings back toward him you'll change your tune about this subject and be on cloud nine. I'll accept either QB. But you Young stans are absolutely insufferable and if he isn't the pick I do hope you pack your bags.

Panthers are taking Stroud, and Houston knows it
