Not enough data to answer as of yet. It remains to be seen if he will stay healthy or revert back to being dinged up. He was top 5 in touches last season the 49ers damn sure are getting their investments worth out of him. At one point he had a rushing receiving and passing touchdown. Not even we put him out there for all that. I don't foresee that being a recipe for sustained injury free play for long.

You either pay to play or you go back to throwing darts at the draft board hoping and praying you get a stud. In the meantime that new pass rusher will also take time to develop. While that's going on the team will probably not be winning much. Thus resulting in the squandering of our current core. When looking at it from that angle if we sell Burns why not just sell off the rest of the defensive pieces too?

Contracts keep going up and that isn't changing unfortunately. Do you remember how many arguments there were in the lead up to us signing Cam to his first contract extension? That's chump change compared to now. And crazy to think about considering how much he meant to the team production wise. When they sign him I'm going to let it play out. But I am absolutely expecting Burns to hold up his end of the bargain and if he does not I will be one of the first to speak on it.

People in this fanbase have spent years complaining about the Panthers investing steep contracts in positions like running back and linebacker. Investing in a talented 25 year old pass rusher who has the next several years to develop into a dominant force on this defense is not the same as that. Basically I'm getting the sense from some of ya'll that you're saying Burns is coasting and he's only going to get lazy with the new contract. You guys should just say that and own it.

So ready to get this over with and watch some football.

Welp... Get it done Panthers.

What a refreshing take.

ALERT: Panthers sign another practice squad WR
frankw replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
Juan is simply trying to give folks on the huddle some common ground to unite on and volunteering himself to be the sacrificial lamb with his clickbait threads. -
It's cute you think that's a gotcha post. Robbie was talented and could have been a great 2nd option but he got cocky and bought his own hype and thought he had arrived and stopped putting in the work. He become a cancer in the locker room and that's on him. I still don't recall droves of people saying he was better than Moore. Obviously he wasn't and only a few trolls or goobers would have believed otherwise. You probably should move on from DJ though you already did this with McCaffrey and it got really unhealthy. Don't make the same mistake again.

The Athletic: Insight to Brian Burns Contract
frankw replied to Saca312's topic in Carolina Panthers
Fitterer is mismanaging this situation but if he makes that Burns trade with the Rams he's effectively submitted his resignation. 95% chance he's not here to even see the names called for those first rounders. No owner is going to give a GM who was involved in the Matt Rhule fiasco a free two seasons to wait around to see the results of a few lottery tickets that might not even be as valuable anymore when they are finally ready to be redeemed. -
Sounds like a tall tale. Moore is still nestled comfortably in our top 5 receiving leaders all time. Only an ignoramus would argue Robbie was better.

CRA you're losing me advocating for continuing to pay a running back top money while discarding a 25 year old pass rusher and one of the most talented players at his position. Panthers fans drag him through the mud but if he has no value as some here insinuate why are teams eager to acquire his services? Reddick is soon to be 29 years old. Talented pass rusher sure but limited and just as Panthers fans did in his lone season here they would have kept complaining about his ability against the run the same as they have about Burns. The difference is Burns has years worth of growth ahead of him.
-
Reddick didn't want to be here he wanted to go to a contender he was unhappy in the last weeks of his season with us why do people keep omitting key details? If we trade Burns instead of Moore we're limited to chasing aging pass rush vets at best and then our defense can't get off the field. There's no easy quick path in this no matter how many do overs you might want to daydream about.

REPORT: Panthers and Brian Burns not at all close to extension
frankw replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
Honestly he is overrated by this fanbase. -
The Eagles win bc they are stacked on both sides around Reddick. You guys are trolling acting like Reddick was going to be a season saving force here.
-
Unfortunately we can't get to pick 1 without one of those players being removed from the picture. The Bears weren't going to budge without Moore in the deal and we never won more than 5 games with McCaffrey despite his substantial salary cap hits. QB and pass rush are the 1a/1b premium targets by any franchise looking to become competitive.

Leave your emotions at the door about Burns... it's a BUSINESS
frankw replied to TheBigKat's topic in Carolina Panthers
Reddick plays on one of the most stacked defenses in the league. People here frequently complained about how terrible he was against the run too. It's absurd to act as if either player is flawless. But Reddick is soon to be 29 and Burns is only 25. His story is still yet to be written as is his ultimate ceiling in this league. -

The Athletic: Insight to Brian Burns Contract
frankw replied to Saca312's topic in Carolina Panthers
Bosa money means Bosa results. I'm pro Burns but even I know he isn't on that level. He could be. But this is on the front office and Fitterer. They signaled to Burns he's the golden goose when they turned down the trade. Should have swallowed their pride and ironed out a deal weeks ago. -

Right so letting this drag on days before the season opener is buffoonery. -
Exactly. And now looking at our depth there removing Brian Burns from the equation there is no way on this earth the same folks in favor of the trade would keep quiet for 17 games while our pass rush gets abused left and right. We've all seen the gameday threads.

Fitterer needs to get this sorted out. He's already going to be getting some harsh looks when reality smacks us in the head about our OL and WR depth. Can't piss off your best pass rusher too. -

Oh no for sure if we made the trade every pick would be an elite level NFL player out of the gate and require little to no time to develop. Also in the meantime while we are waiting on those first round picks none of the people in favor of the trade would ever complain about our lack of pass rush when we're losing games because every mediocre to average QB carves us up since he has enough time in the pocket to make himself lunch. -
That's your perspective because you want those picks. You knock Fitterer for his decision making but you also want to entrust him with not potentially wasting said picks and locating our replacement for Burns which looking at our drafts the last few years is a tall order honestly bordering on fantasy. Burns or no Burns we need to draft better and people need to stop thinking Fitterer is some mastermind in his own tier amongst his peers.
