if we sign Hakeem Nicks i find this offseason to be an incredible success.
-
i don't think you understand how it works. I'm quite confident David Gettleman's abilities weren't used to find top 5 free agents on the market that any fan can do on rotoworld. I am pretty sure that if David Gettlmean was the one scouting and signing Plaxico Burress in NY, then Ernie Accorsi orJerry Reese were just stealing money and were literally doing nothing. The General Manager signs and brings in players like Plaxico and Pierce. Gettleman's job in NY was to target players like Teddy WIlliams.
-
in no world is Nicks slower than Crabtree.
-
listen i am not even really trying to argue with you because i agree with most of your points. the people bitching and moaning about Randall Cobb and Mike Wallace need to go away. Personally I would have signed Torrey Smtih at the contract he got but I can fully understand why Gettleman didn't want to go there for a one trick pony. I just loved the fact that he won a Super Bowl, he is very young, and is extremely fast. But lets not pretend like Hakeem Nicks and Michael Crabtree wouldn't be a huge improvement over Jerricho Cotchery. I can understand the crowd who are upset about us not pursuing players like that.
-
that wasn't the argument. the argument was weapons around Cam since he's been drafted. if you want to use Gettleman as the case then you have to take away Ben's first Super Bowl because that was his rookie year.

Antonio Pierce 6 years $19 million Kareem McKenzie 7 years $21 million Plaxico Burress 6 yes $17 million
-
In the first 4 drafts when they drafted their franchise QB the Steelers drafted 3 OT (one in the 2nd round) and the Giants drafted 2. The Giants also spent big money on Kareem McKenzie who was an integral part to their Super Bow. The Panthers have drafted 1 in the 7th round mainly because he was teammates with Cam at Auburn.
-
then if you want to take a look at the Steelers they had a similar philosophy as the Giants after they drafted Roethlisberger. They drafted a TE and a bunch of OL in 2004 with Ben. 2005 they went TE first round, 2 OL, WR, and RB 2006 they went WR first round, another WR, 3 OL, and a RB So once they found there QB they started doing everything to put weapons around their young QBs.

Eli's total cap hit during the first 5 years $43,103,332 Ben's total cap hit during the first 5 years $52,304,882 Cam's total cap hit during the first 5 years $36,692,164 you also made no mention of how the cap has gone up significantly since back then. Name one player the Panthers went out and got better than Plaxico Burress. He was one of the top free agents on the market at any position the year he was a free agent. You also pointed out that the Giants draft a couple of 3rd round Wide Receivers. The Panthers highest pick was on a 4th round WR in Joe Adams who they strictly brought in for the return game. The Giants also spent a 1st round pick on Nicks like we did Kelvin. Lets look at the first 4 drafts that included Eli Manning compared what the Panthers did in the first 4 drafts that included Cam. 2004: Eli Manning QB, Chris Snee OG, Jamar Taylor WR, Derrick Ward RB 2005: Brandon Jacobs RB 2006: Sinorice Moss WR 2007: Steve Smith WR, Kevin Boss TE, Adam Koets OT, Ahmad Bradshaw RB The next 2 years after that they spent 3 more picks on WR in Hakeem Nicks, Ramses Barden, and Mario Manningham. In his first 6 years they drafted 6 WR, 1 TE, 3 RB, and brought in one of the top free agent WR on the market for Eli. The Panthers have drafted 2 WR, Pilares and Adams (who was brought in to be a returner) and 2 RB in Barner and Gaffney. I am not even sure why I am arguing this because again I have faith in Gettleman, but lets not pretend like the weapons given to Cam have not been a secondary issue since he has been here.
-
you are comparing players that were drafted about a decade apart. you are comparing Eli and Roethlisberger who received outrageous contracts opposed to Cam who was on the rookie scale and was affordable for the first few years. the salary cap is higher than it was when Elie and Ben were drafted. the comparisons don't work no matter how you try to force it.
-
I don't understand this debate that has been going on this board the past few days. I have full faith in Gettleman that he is being smart about how he is building this team and trust his approach. I also don't think there is even a question that this team has put less weapons and less help around cam than other teams with young QBs. Both parties can be right in this argument.

NFL Source: Saints having a complete fire sale
NJPanthers12 replied to RelaxImaPro's topic in Carolina Panthers
Why would a team going through a complete fire sale try trading a 22 year old receiver with no cap hit and bring in players like CJ Spiller and Brandon Browner. I don't get it. -
Gettleman: Oher can be answer at left tackle
NJPanthers12 replied to Jeremy Igo's topic in Carolina Panthers
That you have some kind of vendetta against Gettleman and you will not rest until you complain about every single thing possible about this teams. Seems like so far this is the most accurate my source has been. -
Gettleman: Oher can be answer at left tackle
NJPanthers12 replied to Jeremy Igo's topic in Carolina Panthers
Good god you are annoying. He's been here 2 years and Jordan Gross was his LT one year. The 2nd year they literally had no money and tried out Byron Bell. Byron Bell was such a disaster that they won the division and a playoff game. -
i am in the vast minority here clearly. i would give him a 3 year deal at what he made last year. i would probably even offer the 4 that was supposedly offered last year. he is going into his age 27 season. has tons of potential and gives Cam a big body to throw to. he is a Super Bowl winner. i think he has a lot left in the tank.

Rumor: Panthers, Titans, and Eagles Contact Michael Crabtree
NJPanthers12 replied to rscott94's topic in Carolina Panthers
some of incarcerated bob's rumors: lebron james has failed multiple steroid tests and the NBA is covering it taj boyd is an addictive gambler Deron Williams would not re-sign with the Nets under any circumstances zach parise was a done deal to the pittsburgh penguins steve nash will sign with the toronto raptors steve nash spurns raptors and agrees to deal with new york knicks dwight howard will sign with nets whenever he hits free agency knicks will match any offer for jeremy lin so what i can conclude is that michael crabtree may sign with 28 teams, the will not sign with eagles, titans, or panthers. -
Rumor: Panthers, Titans, and Eagles Contact Michael Crabtree
NJPanthers12 replied to rscott94's topic in Carolina Panthers
incarcerated bob is a guy who got him name on WFAN, the sports radio station for the NY/NJ area. He use to call this show called the Boomer and Carton Show (craig carton and boomer esiason) all the time and tell ridiculous stories and make up fake rumors. they use to go along with it because they knew he was a joke. he got the name incarcerated bob because he claims to have hit another fan with a barstool at a bar while watching a football game. he is literally never right. -
Rumor: Panthers, Titans, and Eagles Contact Michael Crabtree

incarcerated bob makes me look like schefter, but lets continue discussing this -
You said both sides are gauging the situation. Wouldn't that mean he may not visit?
-
I would be excited with a 1. Kelvin Benjamin 2. Hakeem Nicks 3. Ted Ginn Jr. 4. Jarrett Boykin 5. Philly Brown WR corp.
-
I want to believe you so bad. I think he would be a perfect fit.
-
It was reported by multiple people that the panthers moved on from nicks, not the opposite.
-
You just got me so excited and then I read the thread. I will 100 percent apologize if this is true.
-
So you're telling me that Murray will not sign with the Jags unless they agree to pay Murray what he wants or Murray agrees to take what they are offering?
-
1. Benjamin 2. Nicks 3. Ginn Jr. 4. Boykin 5. Brown
