Take Stroud - Trade Back Into First Round for Jaxon Smith-Njigba?

true, but if Cardinals are going defense, 2=3. It would be the same situation as moving to 2, but with higher compensation. -
Take Stroud - Trade Back Into First Round for Jaxon Smith-Njigba?
Luciu5 replied to tukafan21's topic in Carolina Panthers
I think trading down to 3 is more likely. If the Cards think we'll get a massive haul that would be difficult to refuse from someone to move up for Anderson or potentially Carter, then they might want to move up to make sure they get their guy. Overall, I'd say a trade down to anybody would be unlikely. -
Bye DJ! Love ya but ya gotta do what ya gotta do to get a QB.

This may be the dumbest topic I've ever seen.

He's not going to come cheap enough for anyone here to be happy with this.

I wanna bring back Bradberry.

Panthers are now the betting favorite for the #1 pick
Luciu5 replied to Martin's topic in Carolina Panthers
This is kind of a given. If the Colts are offering 3 firsts to move up 3 spots, it would probably take us about a bajillion picks to move up from 9. Most likely they can get at most 2 firsts from the Colts. From us, there are a lot of options. We could do 3 firsts and 1 second this year. Or 2 firsts and a haul of picks this year. The Bears need a lot of players, and I can see them passing on the very, very top tier talent for a load of picks. allowing them to do a 1 offseason overhaul. -
CrownNClaw was legit. He kinda gave a heads up on several hires a day or two it being official. He clearly had inside info. Even gave Duce Staley's official title days before it was announced. This Leaky Faucet guy, talks like he's in the know, but hasn't said anything to confirm it's not just all fiction. He hasn't broken any news before the news broke the news. I take everything he says with a grain of salt because there just isn't a way to confirm he's a legit source.

Even if we aren't interested in Rodgers, it's possible we are more checking on how hot Carr will be. If Rodgers is available, Carr has less suitors and there is less pressure on the Panthers to make a decision quickly. If Rodgers isn't available and Lamar isn't available, then Carr is the #1 QB in this market.

Fournette asked to be released. Wanted to be available beginning of FA. Was probably getting cut either way.

If Lamar goes to ATL, that becomes another team above us definitively in the hunt for a rookie QB.

‘Draft Qb. Panthers can own the South’ Dan O.
Luciu5 replied to raleigh-panther's topic in Carolina Panthers
One thing Dan O said when talking about being close to joining the Panthers, he said "I like their plan at the QB position". It's hard to say how much insight he has from the interview process, but clearly enough to know the direction the team wants to go, and he approves of it. Is he just reinforcing what he already knows they want to do? -
S2 Cognitive test points to NFL Success
Luciu5 replied to Ricky Spanish's topic in Carolina Panthers
The complaints about the wonderlic, at least for certain positions, there is little correlation between scores and future performance. It's common for great QBs to have poor scores. S2 releasing the data would help quite a bit. How common is it for low S2 scorers to be great QBs? That is very important to know. By the snippets posted, this test does seem to show correlation between test results and ability. Without knowing the full scope of their study however, it's hard to say how anecdotal the data is. -

I don't think there would be any correlation of Wonderlic scores to this test. Like, completely irrelevant. That's like saying someone isn't going to do well on their vision test because they bombed their SAT. -
Carr is fine. Top half of the league guy currently. We will win games with Carr. That will be fun to watch winning football. He'll never get us to the super bowl. We will pick 18-28 every year. We won't have any hope of a franchise QB until after he moves on or retires. Panthers will continue to be a media afterthought.

I'd say the "I'm BACK" Cam could be on that list. Some of these guys were great QB's, namely Rivers and Ryans. They were just past their time. Rivers wasn't even bad in Indy, he was just looking for one more shot at a title before retiring. But, that list is all retreads who were busts, middling, or past their time. Which looks a lot like our options at FA QB's this year. Lamar Jackson is the ONLY possible QB and he will cost 2 firsts AND a giant contract. I'd rather we trade up for a rookie at that point. Why pickup someone who you know is going to fail to win you a Super Bowl. I'd rather have a chance than no chance. Drafting a rookie is possible to get a franchise guy. What is available for FA or trade this year, you will be hard pressed to find a franchise QB that route.

You know that saying though..."11th time's the charm!"

PFF - What would it take for Panthers to trade up for #1 pick
Luciu5 replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
It's only stupid if it fails. Trading up to #1 is not destined to fail. You can't play scared. A lot of folks round here complain how we aren't aggressive enough on the field. But off the field, some people completely lose that menality. I don't understand it. Playing it safe has failed over and over again for the last 3 years. I think Reich and crew will do much better, but without the guy at QB, we aren't winning a SB. That guy isn't going to fall into our laps. Is this the only way to get that guy? No. Is that guy available to fall into our laps? Right now the choices appear to be Carr, Rodgers, Jackson. I think Rodgers is the best shot, but he's a nutcase so who knows now. The other two are unlikely to win super bowls based on their past history. I think it comes down to what is the goal? For me it's Super Bowl or bust. If it's back to back winning seasons, then a retread will be fine with this staff. Still spinning our wheels though, just at a different level. -
PFF - What would it take for Panthers to trade up for #1 pick
Luciu5 replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
If you whiff on a pick, you move an asset in the future. Would it suck losing Chinn, Brown, Burns, Horn? Yes. But you can get a haul for a single guy. Turns into a bit of a rebuild scenario. If you never try, you will never succeed. You have to shoot your shot. No year is perfect. I believe this year is our best year. I see a lot of 9-8, 10-7 years in the future otherwise, with no shot at a top QB. Time to stop the QB carousel for a few years at the very least. -

49ers disagree. They probably aren't going to the super bowl anytime soon....but they dont' suck. -

Fitt whiffs, he's out of a job. I agree with this. BUUUT, I'm not against going to 1 if our FO sees a franchise QB in this draft. I trust them to do their jobs and be certain. And if not, they all get fired. So we either celebrate the wins or celebrate the house cleaning. Win, win! Amirite?
