When did you give up on Matt Rhule?
Luciu5 replied to Sean Payton's Vicodin's topic in Carolina Panthers
Didn't we have 8 three and outs? Imagine, two of those 8 were actual drives that take time off the clock. Now take two of NY's drives away. Suddenly our defensive stats will look elite just by the offense staying on the field longer and giving NY less time. -
I think the defense is top 10 with the ability to be top 5. It's hard to be a top 5 defense though without an offense whatsoever. Who gives up more yards - an average defense that's on the field for 10 drives, or an elite defense that's on the field for 20 drives. I think we are closer to the second scenario than the first. The offense is just atrocious without CMC. I don't know what else to say. Last year was the same thing. CMC goes out and the entire offense falls apart.

Matt Rhule says there’s a chance Stephon Gilmore plays vs NYG
Luciu5 replied to Julio's topic in Carolina Panthers
They haven't even taken him off PUP yet as far as I can see. Nothing in the transactions shows he's been activated. -
The previous medical staff. New coach and new medical started last year, and he was cut before doing anything for the new staff. He was probably cut due to his age, cap hit, and contract end date regardless of his play. Last years offseason seemed to be all about getting younger and creating future cap space.

Sam Darnold : Will he make it to a 2nd season here?
Luciu5 replied to glenwo2's topic in Carolina Panthers
Depends if they want him around for a rookie to sit behind for some games or a year. -
Anderson sucks. I don't know what happened from last year but he's single handedly sinking this offense. No excuses for him.

Depends somewhat on trade. Generally, masonry, landscaping, framing, walls, painting, glass, flooring do not pay well, especially at entry level. Electricians, plumbers, HVAC, mechanical trades generally have it a bit better. And yes, it does depend on market, but Raleigh and Charlotte markets are similar. It may be a case of it helps to know someone. I started in the industry as a green helper and was paid a bit more than the average hispanic who may even have some experience.

I bet you are a project manager working for a GC. IE white color management.

@PhillyB isn't wrong overall. And construction doesn't pay poo. Most of my crews could make more after a couple years at Walmart, with much less injury potential. I've moved up to office work - estimating to be specific, and do not make average wage in the area I'm in (Raleigh). Construction is an upgrade from fast food work, but these days that's about it. While retail wages are increasing, our starting wage has not increased in about 8 years. We call our competitors on occasion to get an idea of the market, and the feedback we get from others are in line with what we are doing.

That's incredibly useful for stats. Did not realize advanced stats were available without a paywall. Thanks for that.

This was us last week. We really did do our best to give the game away because we had the last 2 or 3 mistakes.

Chubba caught 7/8 this past sunday. He just has nothing after the catch. His average yard per reception is lowest on the team. Overall he's 12 of 16. Thomas is 9/12 which is a higher catch percentage than DJ Moore, but way less targets. Is that an issue of not getting open? I don't know. Arnold was 7/11 with much higher average yards, fyi. These stats are raw btw and I don't know how many were uncatchable balls for example. For giggles, Tremble is 3 catches for 6 targets, which is awful.

Jefferson's press conference the other day, he said he will definitely be playing sunday (of course so did CMC last week.) At any rate, nobody from the Vikings fanbase seems to think they won't be playing sunday, even though they haven't practiced all week.
-
The whole thing about opposing db's jumping routes and knowing what's coming is really concerning. I honestly think we lost this past sunday because of Joe Brady. I put at least one of Sam's interceptions entirely on Brady's shoulders. If he doesn't improve, I hope Rhule has the sense to fire him at the end of the season.

Loss to Eagles worst halftime lead squandered since Nov 2016
Luciu5 replied to KB_fan's topic in Carolina Panthers
You haven't missed much. In fact, you should probably be thankful. This place has been a shitshow. I really hope we win sunday just so people's periods hopefully end. The dumbass hot takes have been extra this week. -
If it was today? We'd lose 48 to 10. If we are 100% healthy at the end of the season and Darnold is playing like he did the first 3 games, we clean their clocks easily.
-
He has to run the route. He has to go to a certain point and then come back. That's his job. That's what Sam would have been expecting him to do. The corner didn't back up, because he knew Robbie wasn't a go route and jumped the route. If Robbie stopped his route early he would have been waiting on the ball and would be an even bigger tell to the CB. Comeback routes work because it gets the corner going down field, then the receiver suddenly comes back toward the line of scrimmage which takes the corner a second to compensate. If the corner isn't going down field though, this is what happens.

I'm not predicting. Just win.

I don't understand how some of these people aren't NFL coaches or GM's.
-
To add to this, also they are free agents. They have to WANT to come here. We can't just pick people and make them play for us if they don't want to. It's impossible to say who we targeted that came back and said "there is not enough money in the world..."

Some of you need to get away from football for a few days
Luciu5 replied to Gipetto's topic in Carolina Panthers
I think they took who they could and who fit their system. Not every olineman is good for a zone blocking system. Or put another way, a great olineman can look bad in the wrong system. I think "gambled" is a shitty way of putting it. Every player, every draft pick is a gamble. Nothing is guaranteed in football. The connotation in that sentence is odd because yes we gambled (every player is a gamble), yes we lost, no we are not on the hook for huge draft picks and dead cap. I'm not sure how these FA signings were big time losses? They weren't. We missed on two relatively cheap FA's in year 2 of a rebuild... Draft wise, I'm pretty sure the goal was maximize picks and get BPA because we still needed players all over the roster. Olinemen did not line up this year with that strategy except for Christianson who specifically traded back up for. I think if more olinmen graded out where we were drafting, we would have picked more olinemen, but those stars did not align. I imagine we will have a more targeted oline draft next year because we have much less holes compared to the last two years and most of those holes is on the oline. As for being aggressive vs running the ball. Darnold was playing like poo. Maybe the coaches could see Sam was a turnover waiting to happen and were purposely taking the ball out of his hands? -
Was Rhule Blaming the Defense or Acknowledging Something Else**
Luciu5 replied to SetfreexX's topic in Carolina Panthers
I didn't get the impression he was blaming defense or saying we lost because of the defense. He did say when we needed 1 more stop, the defense failed even after the investments made on that side of the ball. Period. Take that for what it is. That statement is not incorrect at all. The team is built right now for the defense to carry the offense. I think the defense did an outstanding job with the exception of a couple drives. It's hard to get a stop on a sudden change on a 27 yard field. Holding them to a field goal there would have been brilliant though. That was the 3rd turnover btw (blocked punt basically is a turnover imo). First one was held to 3 pts. Second one resulted in a punt, so the defense did it twice already in the same game. I think this place has a lot of people who a) like drama and b) are very angry people.
