I feel like this thread is 1 year and about 11 months late. As to what was Tepper thinking? He's got money and doesn't care. He wanted his guy and made an offer that couldn't be refused. Rhule's salary might look large compared to other coaches, but isn't very large compared to Tepper's income. At any rate, who cares? I fail to see how much Rhule is paid is relevant to anything that a normal person would care about. That said, I know there are about 85 people on the planet who care about it and they are all here on the Huddle and will all be in this thread in a minute.

1. It's been one day. It's technically still "this week". In fact it will probably be still "this week" for several more days now. 2. That said, nothing is happening this week with the staff.

Which trade was worse 2nd for Darnold or 3rd for Henderson?
Luciu5 replied to TheBigKat's topic in Carolina Panthers
Eh, neither on their own. Henderson was worth a 3rd. Ideally he'll contribute significantly more next year and he'll be worth it for sure. Even if he's worth holding onto as a high end backup he'd be worth a 3rd. Darnold was an overpay but QB's pretty much always go for a premium. My problem is both of them in the same season really depleting our draft capital coming up. All in all, probably not that big of a deal. We'll trade down a few spots and make up for at least one of them if not both plus more. Personally I'm ok with both deals. In the grand scheme of things, they likely don't matter all that much beyond Darnold making this a wasted season. It becomes a bigger problem if they keep taking every "can't miss deal" on every busted player with potential. -
Rhule. Ultimately it's his call on who the QB is going to be. But I'm not going to sit here and hollar for him to be fired when his THIRD choice (Watson, Stafford, Darnold) at QB is failing miserably. ORLY?!?!?!? Y'all Darnold was a desperate "We are going to actually try to win games" move instead of rolling with the trash on the roster. When they were hiding Darnold in the preseason, it's probably because they already knew then what Darnold was. Keeping Teddy imo would have been the better choice, but I think that bridge was burned last season.

You aren't even a Panthers fan wtf do you know about this franchise? I mean you were a Jets fan and followed Darnold over. Yet you still talk. Curious if you'll follow Darnold wherever he goes next year.

The defense is top 5. Even with the offense playing the way they have been.

CMC just got activated and Sam cleared the protocols.

Eh, maybe the coaching staff isn't that concerned with QB position right now. They have barely started working on the oline, why would they put a real QB back there now??? Rhule is taking cheap shots at the QB position right now while he builds a team. I bet we get us a QB in 2023. Also I bet Rhule discussed how he planned to build the team with Tepper before he was hired. Rhule gets a lot of hate here. In 2019, our defense was ranking 31. After one full season, we have a defense ranked in the top 5. (Defense ranking based on PA) I don't understand the hate. Give the man time because -if- he can duplicate that success with the offense, then we will have a real contender here. -
How is he on waivers? Please don't say Cleveland waived him, derp.

Oh yes and I think we are manipulating with the PS and IR as well. I just get the feeling teams are using these 3 week IR for some roster management, sort of an extended PS protected status. Idk, maybe these guys have legit minor injuries that it's better to get them off the roster than have them take up space for a couple weeks. Which I'm talking about backup guys like Darryl Johnson. I have a feeling he will go off IR whenever another Dlineman goes down and we need more depth there.

Looking at the big picture, building a team question
Luciu5 replied to PanthersATL's topic in Carolina Panthers
The offense is a dumpster fire. It clearly needs attention. The team knows it. I'm hoping they actually target it and not go overly bpa. If they aren't drafting heavy offense this draft then that would be very disappointing. -
The season is over for me but it's crazy how folks lose all sense here. Can't wait for more reasonableness. Maybe in the off-season.

We could actually probably use a little more dishonest play, tbh.

It'd have to be something non-football related. They have barely dipped a toe into improving the offense. I think the coaches know that. Rhule & co have proved enough on the defense to have another offensive minded draft. Darnold sucks bad and I think he is the real problem. It's honestly the biggest change from last year to this. We did not have these issues last year; not like this. My biggest question for the coaching staff is essentially why can't you evaluate a qb? If they can't pick a QB who has the ability to be a starter, then they aren't going to cut it.
-
He's been in the nfl for less than a season and a half. Wtf. Are you on crack or is it meth? Perhaps psychedelics? I'm sorry that's not enough time to decide it's not working out, especially looking at the defense which is vastly improved from the start of last year. Let me say this. If it's not working out for Rhule, it would be personal related and not football related. Coach Rhule has not failed in the NFL yet. This take is as dumb as people thinking he's getting fired this year. Good grief you losers need therapy.

Rapaport: Panthers/ Tepper out of Watson deal
Luciu5 replied to FugginPoo's topic in Carolina Panthers
We traded down how many times this past draft? How many QBs were taken in our old spots? We won't get 3 1sts or anything crazy for a trade down. But I could see us moving a few spots back and getting a 2nd and 3rd in compensation. We could get Tyler Linderbaum in the middle of the 1st round, then get multiple guards in the second/third round plus a LT project if we wanted. Because we're trading back with our 2nd as well. My point is, someone wants to trade up for some reason. Doesn't have to be for a QB. Our problem is, we need a QB. Idk what the draft is going to look like, but QB vs LT vs IOL will be the question going into next offseason, cause we can't get all three; 2 of 3 would be lucky. -
Rapaport: Panthers/ Tepper out of Watson deal
Luciu5 replied to FugginPoo's topic in Carolina Panthers
I fully expect us to trade down with our 1st, but probably not out of the 1st entirely. A whole lot of oline can be had with late 1st and multiple 2nd/3rds. We can keep our 1st and get an elite LT. Or we can trade back and can have elite to great center and guards x2. I know I'd rather solidify 3 positions over just one, especially since the center of our oline is the problem. -
Maybe, but it'd be interesting to see him with a defense.
-
Tua would be an upgrade, but not sure how much he's worth and I'd bet miami wants a 1st. Tua for cheap would not be opposed.
-
I question whether that actually happened already. At some point, I'm wondering if the coaches were already thinking Sam isn't it and thus shutting CMC down for longer than needed. I thought the same thing last year, especially toward the end.
-
Oh I agree. Last year, we were in every game. Lost how many by a score or less last year? Teddy wasn't it, but this is regression for sure and it's on Darnold and the coaches for thinking Darnold could be more than what he's shown. I think they knew in the preseason and I'm a bit surprised at the playoff talk from this team early on. I thought our defense was good enough to carry Sam. But I was wrong. Our defense I think is still very good, but not THAT good. (I don't think there is a defense in the league that could carry Sam Darnold to the playoffs.)
