A win doesn't change the fact that we have no legit QB...it just changes the calculus and makes getting one more expensive. Cam and Kerry Collins are the only 1st round QBs in almost 30 years. Replacements on D is just wash, rinse, repeat of Panther football, which has netted way more losses than wins.

I'm not sure I was pro-tank as much as I was pro-get-a-franchise QB-with-only-one-pick. I personally think Young is one but that's my opinion. So now I'm pro-winning every game, then pro-not being satisfied with wherever the draft position is. Like @Aussie Tank said, maybe we just got a bunch of picks back to send them the Houston or Chicago to get our guy, 'cause Darnold ain't it. Or, for our bargain-hunting lovers, maybe 15 or 17 or wherever we land is for sale and we start collecting picks for '24 and make a move then. That may be a better option, especially if we can end up like Seattle and Detroit with the Broncos and Rams picks.

Totally unrealistic fantasy but one can dream as we'd totally control that draft and future ones with teams trying to position.

This is exactly what will happen. Getting the wins for now may feel nice at the moment for the current coaches and players, the pick price for a new franchise QB keeps going up. I'm all for them winning out, as long as we all understand that it means many of this and next year's picks disappearing as @Krovvy said.

I personally think that just like some don't want to reach on a QB at the top of a draft, that's also the one position where you don't draft for value. QB is the only position where you should draft when and where you want, not because he was good value or was BPA. How many BPA or value QBs have delivered championships? Besides, with QB, true value is not defined by the number where they were drafted, but by the numberof seasons in SB conversations. No one cares now about the draft capital that Buffalo and KC gave up to draft theirs where they wanted them. I think if FO believes that Young or Stroud is the guy, package the picks to move up. If they don't, I'd rather they focus on skill positions, and then package picks next year for Maye or Williams.

The answer is no one. If we want one of the top two, do what we need to get them. Drafting a QB elsewhere may be a wasted pick IMO.

Young for sure. Hoping what @TheCasillassays is true...I find it very believable and very Texans. The only x-factor is Caserio might have connections to Saban thru Belichick. Saban could sell him on Young.

Ultimate test to determine his long someone's been a fan. Randy Fasani instantly came to mind...and I'm not sure there's a close second. Matt Moore is on that list, as is Chris Weinke. How often to 5 and 6-win teams eventually win the Super Bowl? And how long do they take? Seems like worst-to-first happens a lot more often. 5- and 6-win teams seem to think that they're *this* close, and then they spend stupidly on free agents and make weird trades that cost them later...only to still win 5 or 6 games...maybe 7 or 8.

I didn't see the game as a judgement on Willis as much as it's an indictment on drafting tons of players on defense and treating offensive skill positions as an inconvenience and QBs as a luxury for next year. TEN's WRs and TEs are non-existent and didn't catch any of the few balls Willis managed to get to them. They may be the worst WR room in the league. Locking KC down to 9 points for 3.5 quarters should be a win everyday if you have an offense that can score. A lights out D with no offense is near useless in today's game.

So confused on this. Why is only "reaching" when it's for a QB--particularly on today's wage scales? Why the hand-wringing in favor of yet another (usually) defensive player that will be either neutralized by better competition or exhausted because his offense can't stay on the field. Carolina has no bust QBs...because they don't draft them in the first round aside from Collins and Cam. 2 1st round QBs in almost 30 years? I could see if that was because of long-term success, but it's not. It's been because "bigger needs" we're always addressed first, with the QB left as an afterthought.

We seem to go through this all the time. If the pick is a QB, it should be Young or Stroud. That's it--that's the list. Many of us have a Weber or some other kind of smoker--how many of you know of someone else who loudly claims that their homemade smoker made from a old drum is better at ribs than your "overpriced" smoker? They have pride in turning something from nothing--which I understand--and sometimes they can turn out to be better cookers but it's rare and totally dependent on the skills of the person making and using them. The Huddle seems overpopulated with these drum smoker makers...when there's already high-quality smokers out there. If Carolina is at the top of the draft, take Young (my preference) or Stroud. Don't get too cute with manufacturing a case for anyone else--Hooker, Duggan, Levis, or whoever else.

He might spend much of that decade as a stud for someone else too. Same old story--some really good defensive player is a "keep at all costs" player, who then re-sogns and has Huddlers packing his bags almost immediately thereafter. Too often, Huddle says, "we can't make _______ move cause we have to pay __, ___, _____, and ______. Then they all get paid and before the ink is dry on their extensions, they can't be pushed out the door fast enough. See Johnson, Charles; Short, Kawann; Gamble; Chris; Davis, Thomas; Beason, Jon; and other big name defensive players not named Keuchly. Trading him now just speeds up the cycle of the inevitable wanting him out of town and drafting his replacement over everlasting offensive needs.

I knew Darnold was a dud from the beginning. His jersey number is 14. When has a QB wearing 14 ever been great? I'm only partially kidding I still didn't see Sam as a Dan Fouts but thought Brad Johnson was at least a stretch (Armstrong) target. Seriously though, it would be interesting to see a statistical connection between jersey numbers and success--if there is one (probably not). Team is going nowhere. San Antonio? Cowboys territory? Yeah, like Jerruh is letting that happen. Oklahoma City--who can't fill their NBA arena? Is basically Far North Dallas? Yeah, like Jerruh is letting that happen. St Louis? Nope--already had two turns at a team. Portland? Nope--would never build a publicly-financed stadium. Honolulu? Aloha Stadium is a dump and they're limited in public money. Memphis? No, declining population and decrepit stadium. Columbus? Would mean three(!) teams in Ohio, so no. Louisville? Already has three teams 2-3 hr drive away from them. Orlando? Would give Florida a fourth (!) team and puts it less than two hours from two other teams. Anchorage? Just lol. Salt Lake City? Too small and Denver likely says no. Oakland? Stadium is a dump and they may lose the A's--any stadium would have to be privately funded and given local politics would be required to supply thousands of housing units. San Diego? Getting a new stadium, but it's for SDSU, and is small. See how ridiculous this concept is? In fact, every available US city has flaws. The only cities that stand a chance are London and Toronto, which any sane person would move a market-size based business to from Charlotte to anyway. The Bills might not like a team in Toronto, but the Pegulas aren't the Jones. I honestly think if the Hornets had never moved in '01, the thought of moving the Panthers would never enter anyone's mind. There is clearly some type of "team relocation" PTSD happening here.

But wasn't the story that he wouldn't fully guarantee the contract like Cleveland did--otherwise the trade would have happened here instead of Cleveland? I still think the assets traded were minimal compared to what Houston thought they'd get (no young players at all). It was the guaranteed money in the end that stopped that deal, and well, Tepper easily speaks that language.

I don't know how it is in Charlotte, but here in Australia, used cars have gotten way too expensive and in some cases rival costs of new ones. If you've got no car and questionable (credit) history, your choices are to overpay for a used one or keep walking . Murray is the best available known quantity that may become available. If it's Pickett vs Murray, take Murray. If it's Willis vs Murray, take Murray. I'd send #6 and some Day 2 picks next year and even a #1 in 2024 to get it done. Watson went for way less than anyone thought (no players at all and fewer picks than Houston claimed it would take). The same could happen here, especially since we'd be on the hook for an extension.
