99% hes going to be our backup QB this season. I'm not sure what the outrage is about.

He still managed to get one of his wrs hurt on their catch attempt and no completions. I mean, he is a third round player, he HAS to show a little something to add more snaps. You can cry about coaches till you're blue in the face but Corral has to do a little something at least to justify more snaps and apparently getting to practice early isnt enough.

Yea everyone is chomping at the bit for football which is understandable and a lot of people feel negatively about the team because of the coaching staff so it is manifesting with a big negative leaning but long story short it's a bunch of fans overreacting with first preseason game hot takes. That's what we do.

Hes gone after this year and we are sitting at 20m in cap right now. I'm not sure how much it really hurt financially.

So with your logic were Brandon Smith and barno playing solid entirely because of coaching? I mean they were even later picks than Corral so that must be some great coaching.

Every other team doesnt have a new offensive system/coordinator, a totally new offensive line, a new qb and a clear qb and backup qb ahead of them. Apples and oranges.

Because some players do and some players dont? That's how the nfl works. Performance isn't always an exact correlation to talent or draft spot unfortunately. Let me put this very simply. I hope everyone agreeing with this post reads this. Tanking doesnt exist to coaches and players. Right now they are focused on one thing, winning. The team has a new offensive coordinator, a new offensive scheme, a new starting qb, and almost an entirely new offensive like. They have a lot more they should be focusing on right now than the third string qb. He needs to keep focusing on mental reps and taking advantage of the time he has to learn. The starting offense has to learn the new system and learn to gel. You could say then why give Darnold reps but they said it was an open competition and that lines up. Regardless it makes sense for your backup qb to get more reps than your third string qb. I know Corral is the sole focus of a lot of fans right now but he better not be the sole focus of the head coach and offensive coordinators at this point with all the transition and the fact hes third string at best this season.

Yea there are two angles of the catch attempt that look completely different. The better angle where you can see before the contact is made Anderson clearly had the ball in both of his hands before the safety made contact. It would have been a very difficult catch but one the best WRs make more often than not I'd say.

Easy because they want to blame everything they dont like on 1 guy.

If Corral starts this year then we are going to be in the running for a top 3 pick. Care to take a guess what position they would probably draft in that scenario?

Corral isnt going to play this season unless something crazy happens. Hes also not going to be the backup unless they trade Darnold somehow soooo...

You can't expect a rookie qb from that offense to be ready in a couple weeks by coaching alone. Some will some wont. Also overall our roster has gotten much younger and much fewer holes overall and I think Rhule plays a hand in that. I dont think Rhule is for sure the coach of the future either but I dont think you can tell in 2 seasons when you inherit a very old team that was in cap hell that won 5 games the season before with Luke and CMC playing all 16 games. It has been 2 seasons and I think we will see an improvement in the win total this year while playing a much harder schedule (it appears harder before the season starts anyways)

You're not considering the way more likely option in the scenario though. The third round rookie qb just isnt ready to go and two weeks wasnt going to change that. Of course it's easy to blame coaching. Most of the board does that no matter what happens, but its far more likely that its just another third round qb who isnt going to pan out. Hopefully he does and after two weeks we have no idea, as expected.

I think it might have helped a little bit possibly. That's not even a gurantee though. I think if he had gotten every snap in the two week training camp he still wouldnt be ready or looked much better. Hes not ready. This frantic turn to blame the fact he played badly entirely on the coaching staff and their two weeks with him instead of any blame on Corral (when it was the first preseason game and none of it really matters yet anyways, these are all just overreactions for now) is so weird but the definition of what the huddle is these days.

More snaps totally would have totally altered Corral's career projection.. today proved what a lot of us knew. He is in over his head right now and it is going to take time more than just reps for him to get over that. The coaches helped him if anything by not throwing him out there longer. He needs more time to cook before hes ready, so to speak.

No. I think they believed Corral was better than Howell or they would have taken him instead. I mostly believe they think he was better than willis as well but we will never know for sure since he went before. I do think the coaching staff/gm can potentially miss on a pick but its impossible to tell one preseason game in. It's weird how it was a fitterer pick after the draft when everyone loved it and now 1 preseason game in it was a Rhule pick though lol

I agree with you completely for a change. People want to scapegoat the performance entirely on coaching. Some players could have all the reps and the best coaching staff in the league for development and most of your mid to late round draft picks still arent going to pan out. Hopefully corral will but using this performance to hate on the coaches is a bit weird. He needs time more than anything

If he gets his hands on the rusher they are done. Had a bit of trouble with some outside speed rushes.

Barno and Brandon Smith, almost all of our WR who are competing to make the roster (especially Shi Smith I think cemented himself) and some of the end of the roster cbs looked solid in man. Brandon smith has so many flashes. He is all over the field, in both the good way and the bad way (he takes himself out of position with his speed and explosiveness sometimes) but if he can find a way to harness that and be where he needs to be and not take himself out of the play sometimes then he could potentially be a big time difference maker. Edited to add Ricci. Almost forgot to add him. I know they use him as a fb/te but dude has hands and I wonder if he can compete to get some snaps in the regular season at TE since that's something we kind of lack in that position.

I get it, everyone is always looking for an excuse to blame Rhule. The coaching staff saw where Corral was and knew he was going to need more time. They knew it when they had him 4th on the depth chart. They knew it when they let PJ get more reps to judge the rest of the offensive players on. If anything this just shows maybe the coaching staff was right on where Corral was and the huddle was wrong. Nah, I'm sure the huddle knows more and if he had gotten more reps he would be the starter by now.. Corral isnt ready. It's going to take time. Everyone who saw the offense he came from in college knew that and that's ok. Stop trying to spin everything into the coach's fault because you dont like him. Corral just isnt ready yet. That's why they traded for Mayfield.

Unfortunately success in the nfl and draft slot dont go hand in hand. I'm not at all saying Corral isnt going to be good, just that I have realistic expectations of the time he may take. I just think its crazy to say where someone was drafted is an exact correlation to where they should be at in the first preseason game. Tom Brady must have got a huge amount of reps in training camp and all those qbs taken before him must have failed because of the coaching by that logic.

He could have been given every rep in training camp. That doesnt mean he would have been ready. This isnt madden. He is going to take time, not just reps.
