  1. I disagree with this to an extent. Most of the best teachers/coaches of things werent very good players.
  2. All you can do is try to learn from your mistakes and take another swing. Everyone makes mistakes, especially when they are new at something.
  3. Lottery ticket is a bad example because it is totally random super low percentage, there is no skill or information that changes the odds. That's not true in any football situation.
  4. Its definitely a risk and maybe its just my personality but I would still rather gamble swinging for the fence than take a safe single. Singles are all we've ever had as a franchise so to speak. Plenty of safe conservative defensive coaches. If you're asking me to pick between high floor low ceiling or low floor high ceiling, I'm always taking the ceiling
  5. From everything I've seen he is a good dude and a fine coach, just not a really good one. I dont have any interest in another fox/rivera style coach. Average isnt good enough.
  6. I could see that but then pretty much gurantee to get bounced in the first round because their strategy doesnt work against good teams.
  7. He was always fine at running the ball. His problem is catching it and sometimes his blocking.
  8. For a locker room who supposedly wants to keep Wilks so bad they quit before the game started.
  9. I think it's because Rhule was so bad that only being slightly below .500 against average to bad teams seems crazy good. I think it's the measuring stick he's being compared to. An average coach seems great when they replaced a terrible one.
  10. I feel like he led plenty of 4th quarter comebacks with his arm.
  11. I will never understand this Jake Delhomme game manager stuff. The only thing I can think of is its younger people who look at stats and didnt watch the games. Before the elbow injury Jake was a gunslinger almost his entire time here. Our entire offense was basically run, run, play action bomb.
  12. I feel like they should just play him, shaq, and luvu as the lbs depending on the formation. He could be a three down lb I think. He would be much better matched up as a lb in coverage vs te/rb than at safety covering deep routes against receivers. Hes already being asked to cover more than he can right now. I dont see how moving him to lb would make that worse than basically a coverage safety.
  13. It's simple, his skillset best fits at linebacker or maybe an in the box safety but Wilks has been set on him playing coverage safety.
  14. I will have to rewatch tape but I dont see him getting doubled much at all unless you count tight end chips. Most of the doubles we receive come on the interior that I've seen. I've seen plenty of plays where Burns gets stopped easily 1 vs 1. Once his outside speed rush gets stopped and the tackle gets their hands on him he totally stops rushing and stands straight up
  15. Lol that's true but that's not much of a measuring stick
  16. I like him more than Wilks but I also worry about his ability to evaluate qbs.
  17. After looking at the top receivers in the league it definitely looks like being a great route runner and being able to get open without being schemed open is one of, if not the most important trait for a receiver in the modern nfl. It's not so much the physical freaks anymore.
  18. I agree if there is one there they believe in. I wasnt really saying not to take a qb, just that that seemed like the clear giant hole to make us competitive on the roster and some other holes may have shown up just as glaring if not more.
  19. We have been hiding the obvious problems with the oline by scheme all season. By running down the throat of the defense. Like I've said for weeks that is always going to be an inconsistent strategy against good teams. They stacked the box. Once they got a lead and we were in obvious passing situations our oline couldnt pass protect nearly as well. Our oline is great at run blocking and average to slightly below average on obvious passing plays. As far as the D line, they just cant get off blocks. Once the o lineman gets hands on them they totally give up the rush and stand up. That's why we never get any late pressure. We either get through quick or not at all. Holcomb relying on the front 4 to generate all pressure compared to Snow and his blitzing scheme has exposed them even more.
  20. I'm not sure any qb in the draft is a surefire prospect. If Young was a little bigger I would feel better. If Stroud made quicker decisions and didnt have the best skill positions in college football then I would feel better. I'm actually more demoralized that Sam played pretty solid and it made it pretty clear that qb isnt even our biggest need really. Before I at least had the illusion that it was plug in a good young qb and we were set. That's not the case unfortunately. I think they should still try to trade Burns if they can get two firsts. Its doubtful but who knows. Nothing matters now till the coaching hire though. That's going to have much more of an impact on our next 5 years of a franchise than this draft, etc.
  21. I definitely agree with your take on not trading Burns. One of the worst decisions we've made as a franchise. Not the worst but it's up there. Hes a one trick rusher. Hes elite if he gets around the edge with his speed rush but once lineman gets their hands on him he completely stops rushing and stands up. That's not even factoring his run defense or his contract situation. Bad bad decision. The fields part I dont really agree with though. Hes flashy in the ground game but that's about it. I saw a play yesterday where the lions literally rushed 0 and he threw an interception. Elite runner, below average passer. Elite runners dont get it done in the playoffs. Back to Burns though I hope maybe they put him out there and see if they could still get 2 firsts for him this offseason. Two firsts and a second I definitely dont see again though.
  22. Holcomb is a bad dc and will be tied to his hip. Wilks is too conservative and not great at scheming. Hes a great motivator but that's about it. He has done a commendable job but not going to push us to the top.
  23. Darnold played really solid today. Hes way down the list on reasons we lost.
